Viper Squadron Berthings
The berthings for the ship's Air Wing are the same that one would find on any other Mercury-class Battlestar, though they are distinctly different from the rest of the bunks on the ship. These bunks are separated not into sections of sixty, but by squadron. That means that there is a little more room to move around with only twenty to twenty-five pilots in one bunkhouse. Some officers have brought a small rug to sit in front of their bunks, but the tables and chairs are standard military issue. At the rear is a small couch that was probably new when the ship left anchorage and seems to have been kept carefully clean.

In here is a place for relaxation and avoiding the more crowded areas such as the mess hall. So for once Luc is in here. Laying on his bunk and letting out a yawn as he tries to find something to read. An old magazine or similar. Glancing around the rather quiet and empty place. Having been on duty earlier on.

It's a decidedly sweaty Buchanan that comes into the barracks clutching a sandwich in one hand and a bottle of water in the other. If rumors are to be believed, she is the latest addition to the Viper crew and a real frakking ice-queen. Barely said two words to anyone she hasn't been forced into speaking with. Dressed in her gym sweats, she's apparently been taking the extra PT sessions very seriously. Her first stop is her insanely tidy bunk, where she carefully puts down her sandwich and water. Before moving on to her locker. The newest pilot doesn't acknowledge anyone who might be hanging around, her expressionless dark eyes kept fixed firmly ahead.

Luc does carefully watch as Buchanan walks past him and to her bunk, having the the bunk next to hers. "Good to see that you're keeping up with hard training." He offers to her a bit idly. While she might not talk a lot, Luc's quite the opposite. Chewing some on his tongue as he let his gaze follow her along. "Was told to chat you up some. Though I am sure I wouldn't have to be told that to do it." Looking from her to the magazine.

Pausing as she's addressed, Buchanan doesn't turn around for a moment, and when she does finally turn to stare at whoever's talking to her, she does so slowly. She holds herself carefully, every movement completely controlled. Her dark eyes blink once, and not an ounce of expression bleeds into her sharp features. For a long minute the Ensign stares at Luc, until eventually, one shoulder lifts in a slight shrug, "It's good to stay in shape in case you crash land and have to run. Or fight." Her heavily Scorpian accent lends itself to the rumors of her being a very recent transfer. There's another pause. "What do we need to …. chat… about?"

Luc chuckles, "You got that right. Happened before but I managed to get out of it alive." He offers to her. Shrugging about what to talk about. Putting the magazine aside. "No clue, just to try and bond. We might fly in seperate vipers, we still need to be able to know each others' tendencies." He suggests with a tilt of his head. "So I suppose we just talk about random things. MAybe see a movie. Anything from comedy to porn apparantly." He offers with a smirk to show her that he's just joking. "Or we could hit the sims."

Buchanan blinks again, just once and there's a flash of pure rage that flickers through her eyes for a moment. It's gone in the next breath and she rolls her shoulders, then nods. "Sims. Captain Salazar said I need to do them. I can do them, but apparently I have to do them with other people." She keeps her expression carefully nuetral, along with her tone of voice. "Let me change and then we can go and do that." Not waiting for a response, the Ensign turns and continues to her locker where she proceeds to strip out of her sweaty gym clothes, revealing a glorious array scars that look far to precise and evenly spaced to have come from combat or an accident. Then she snags a towel, wraps it around her and toiletries in hand, heads off to find a shower.

Luc just grins, "Relax some, ensign." He offers to her. "And yes, you do. I've got your back but I am going to expect you to have mine as well. If you can't then you have no place out there." Being more serious at that. Letting her move along to change. "See you out at the sims." Bouncing off of his bunk to head along as well.

Flight Simulators
The Air Wing has access to flight simulators to train pilots off the ground in combat maneuvers and situations that are hard to replicate with regular dogfight practicing and this is their home. A rectangular room, the hatch opens up beside the bank of computers that control the simulations and what is seen by the individuals when training sessions are in progress. The sims are actual cockpits cut out of old frames and installed here to function exactly as the real thing, right down to oxygen plugs for suits. In front of each cockpit, complete with armored glass, are LCD screens that cover most of the front view to the front and above. There are two Vipers, two Predators, and one full-cabin Raptor available.

Once in the sims Luc is setting up what they should be doing. Starting them off with an easy mission to allow them to go through some flying as well as combat. Waiting for the ensign to arrive, humming some to himself as he waits.

Buchanan arrives in the sims, freshly showered and squared away. She settles herself in and gives Luc a silent look, waiting for him to get everything started as she carefully familiarizes herself with the layout.

Luc nods to her before taking his seat a bit more properly. "I've got us set up. Our mission will just be to scout out and take out the raiders as we run into them. We've got some time to just manuever and learn each other's movements before actually heading into the combat area where we will fight against the raiders." He points out to her. Giving her a brief rundown of what they have planned.

"Yes sir." Buchanan replies, shifting a look sidelong to Luc, then focusing back on her screen. And that's all she says as she settles herself further and gets ready for the mission as has just been laid out to her. One can only assume that she's retained all that's just been said as the Ensign begins going over the whole pre-flight training that's been drummed into her in the past few months, running on automatic while she waits for Luc to take the lead.

Luc does set up and as they are both set they will be in their respective vipers and off flying. "Got a callsign yet, ensign?" He asks. Flying around just a little bit. "Fall into formation." He says while waiting for her reply. Just wanting to see how well she flies.

There's another longish silence from Buchanan before she finally replies to the first question, "Mimic." Short and to the point as she follows the order, silent barring her clear, "Yes, sir" moving her Viper into position. There's nothing even remotely flashy about her flying, at least so far, and no inane chatter from the pilot either. She just does exactly as she's been trained with the minimal amount of fuss.

Luc nods to himself and goes into a more serious field state of mind. "Mimic, Crater here. Steer right and move from my left side to my right. Watch me and make sure not to bump into me." He tells her as he starts to let his viper glide slightly towards the right. Checking here at the same time.

Once again, Buchanan does exactly as she's told. She doesn't deviate even slightly from the orders she's given. "Yes sir." Again with the affirmative as she smoothly guides her craft in the direction ordered. There's no hesitation, but there's no over-confidence either. Just a simple case of moving from left to right, giving the ranking officer's Viper enough clearance that there's no chance of her bumping into him, but remaining close enough to provide cover should the need arise.

"Keep up." Luc offers as he starts to fly a bit faster and moving around swiftly. Letting her keep up, but trying to see how she flies and manuevers when not told what to do. Making sure that they can both learn to fly about. Luc moving around her viper some to be able to still make quick turns if needed. "Okay, let us move out." He offers after he's seen enough.

Buchanan keeps up and counters Luc's movements steadily. She doesn't say a word during the test run, and her flying is nothing if not proficient. At least up to now. The Ensign keeps her head and concentration as her fellow pilot manouver's his Viper around hers and she gives a simple, "Yes sir," The stock-standard response to his order to move out.

Luc speeds up just a bit to send them along towards their targets. "Crater to Mimic, Raiders coming up. Be ready." He offers as he perhaps didn't put it on the easiest with a single raider. Rather having three show up at once. "One is too easy, so let us see how we can handle this." He tells her, to explain the situation some. Speeding in to try and find the targets. With three raiders soon enough showing up to try and target them both.

There's a sharp intake of breath as Buchanan spots the Raiders but aside from that gives no verbal reaction to Luc deciding not to make this too easy. Though she's possibly a little surprised as her Viper falls back a fraction, for just a moment before speeding up to take her place closeby. "Yes sir," Again with that standard response, as she readies herself and her Viper for the impending combat sequence.

Luc does cut off to the side to try and draw the attention, which seems to work decently. Spotting that one is starting to follow the ensign. "I've got the one on your tail. Help me out some." He offers as he tries to outrun the ones he has following him while trying to help her out.

Spotting the two heading after Luc, Buchanan manouvers her Viper, trusting her fellow pilot to have her six, she focuses her attention on the Raider closest to Luc, bringing her craft around, "Mimic to Crater, I'm going to try deflect the one closest to you." That's just about the most words she's said this whole session, and true to her word, that's exactly what it looks like she's going to do as sets about getting that Raider in her sights.

Luc does continue to pull around. "Crater, Roger that." He says as he continues to fly and having the flight fight moving quite fast as he tries to set up his target and shoot.

Seeing Buchanan seemingly going down the raiders target Luc. With Luc himself trying to continue firing and avoiding being shot down, "Crater to Mimic, are you all right?" He asks, trying to reach her while zig-zagging. Having managed to hit his target but not bring it down.

"This is Mimic. I'm hit hard, but still going." Buchanan's voice is steady and emotionless as ever, just the faintest hint of strain, but she keeps her Viper steady. Bringing it round, keeping half an eye on Luc's whereabouts and the rest of her eye on the targets. She keeps her ships movements in counter point to Luc's, or at least does her best to. "I'm going after the one closest to you, again."

Luc let out a sigh of relief, "Glad to hear." He offers before shooting down one of the raiders. Though as he turns it makes his front a target, taking a hit before able to steer to the side. "Frak." He says as he is hit. Though he does start to turn. The raider unable to turn and instead flies to try and finish off Buchanan. However the one she was shooting is continuing to follow Luc. "Take it out. I've got your back." He offers to her, trying to take out the other raider.

Buchanan's curse as she misses, again, is barely a whisper over the comms. It's her only outward reaction as she carefully brings her Viper around, giving plenty of clearance to Luc and the remaining Raiders. "Going for the one closest to you, again." The Ensign's cool, steady voice comes over the comms as she lines up her shot, once more.

Luc can't quite get his target into his view quite yet. He does continue to try to though. "Hang in there." Noticing all the missing from both sides. "Just breathe Mimic, don't get too frustrated or flustered." He suggests to her. Turning to try and shoot the raider he is chasing.

"I'm fine." Buchanan replies, and she mostly sounds fine. Her voice is steady and so is her ship as she brings it around, still trying to get a target on the Raider. Pity the punching bags later though. She does, however take a deep breath, releasing it slowly and mostly just doing a good job of keeping her head despite her constant misses.

While it is close Luc manages to stabilize himself after taking heavy hits. Both raiders going down. Then ending the sim as he steps out to check on Buchanan. "That how it goes sometime. Work on your aim while moving. You've got potential, if not experience." He points out. Being more serious than by the bunks. Then a slow nod before grinning once more. "In real combat I'll make sure that cute behind of yours manages to get back here safely." He teases. Probably preparing for a punch to come.

Buchanan definitely swears this time, her voice is tight with rage as her Viper takes another hit, putting her out of the fight for good. She's silent after that, just kind of floating there, waiting on the sim to end. She does watch Luc's actions intently, her silent fury almost palpable. As the sim ends and Luc goes over the event with her, Buchanan remains silent. Even his jab at her 'cute behind' is met with silence. Finally, she takes a deep breath and releases it slowly. Followed by another, and the rage subsides, leaving behind her usual blank expression. She nods, "Yes sir." There's no punch as her hands fold behind her back.

"One thing that probably will help with your manuevers is probably relaxing some." Luc tells her, "Flying is like dancing. If you're stiff then it will just end up being awkward. Find a balance." He offers and nods her head. "Get some rest, let out some steam. Whatever you need. I am happy to run through sims with you again tomorrow." He offers to her. Hands going into his pockets. "I think you should almost be called zipper, for your zipped lips." He teases. "Though Mimic is quite a good one. You will have to tell me where it came from at some point."

Buchanan nods once, "I'd appreciate that, Sir." She replies to the offer of going through the sim again. She shifts slightly, then goes still again, watching him silently for a moment. "Maybe." Comes the eventual reply to him asking about her callsign. Not even a hint of a smile is cracked, though her cold, dark eyes do warm ever so slightly and for just a moment. "I need to go." Punch the living daylights out of a punching bag, probably. Maybe. "Thanks again." Without waiting for an official dismissal, the Ensign turns and makes her way from the room, back as stiff as a board.

Luc chuckles and nods, "See you, Buc." He offers and offers a pat to her shoulder before moving towards his own. With himself seemingly heading for the ready room.
