Ready Room - Deck 2 - Battlestar Orion
Capable of seating every member of the wing with space to spare in its stadium organization, the Ready Room has more than two hundred seats and is the largest room on the ship dedicated to single briefings. Sections of desks were manufactured specifically for this and wrap the width of each level of seating, rolling leather seats positioned at even points through each row. The head of the room has a small dais with a podium for the briefer and on the wall behind it are a pair of large LCD screens. The walls have the tenant squadrons' patches painted on individual panels as well as a Kill Board up to the left side of the dais and podium, the Training Board on the other side to log progress.
AWD #328

The corridors of the air wing as not exactly Gloria's usual haunts, in fact, this is the fist time she's ever been there, but at least the ready room is easy enough to find. In her greens she could be almost be a new transferee getting used to the corridors, but then those little green pips on her collar give her away as an interloper. Still, she's there now and with a clipboard clutched in one arm she's glancing round the room, taking it in, and pondering what might have been.

Kelsey has been unreachable for the past few days. Something about a deployment, then being overdue for return. But someone in the wing let Gloria know that the crews had returned and Kelsey was among them. The following day, Kelsey is making her way through the halls in her greens, seemingly not about to go flying anytime soon. When she passes Gloria at the Ready Room, she stops and tilts her head. "Hey, Petty Officer." Squire used to be one so she's polite and friendly. "Looking for someone or a location? I can walk you to them if you want. Save a little time." The JG even smiles a little with it, but its plain the young officer is tired.

Gloria is brought out of her reveer by Kelsey's words. Looking faintly quilty, she smiles back to the Lieutenant and nods once as her brain switches back into work mode. "Ah yes, either Lieutenant Vashti, or Lieutenant Wescott. I need to talk to them about a research project I've been asked to run."

Kelsey does seem surprised at hearing her own name mentioned. "Wescott." Pronounced 'Whes-kitt', she corrects lightly. Damned Picans and their funny speech. "I'm Lieutenant Wescott. Vashti is an ECO I fly with sometimes. You've been tasked with a project and my name came up?" The young officer doesn't seem to track. "What's it about?"

Gloria looks pleasd at first, to have scored a direct hit first go, then as Kelsey continues she deflates just a little. "Ah, sir, I sent you a memo? I've been asked to look at all the information we have on the cylon SAM systems as a lead into trying to find a way to increase the effectiveness of our supression systems. I was told yourself and Lieutenant Vashti had looked into this before?"

Kelsey leans back a bit on her heels and thinks. Riiiight. "Yeah, okay. Sorry. It's been a really, REALLY long week. I'm just not with it right now. Vashti and I were the crew that got the intelligence on the Saber system. We'd flown the mission." And nearly died trying to succeed. It saved a lot of lives. "We had sort of scratched the surface on what we were going to be doing for the one mission. It worked. Did you have something in particular in mind?"

Gloria looks faintly relieved when Kelsey remembers the note, it means there aren't random crew members wondering what the frak she's on about. Listening carefully to whats said she nods slowly, asking once the pilot is finished, "do you have your notes, or the flight footage? I've not been given much direction on this, other than your names, but it seems a sensible place to start. Could you also recommend any other flight that might be worth looking at the flight recorder footage for?"

That's the sort of request Kelsey really isn't used to. Pilots don't want to be reminded of how dangerous their job is, so hearing that someone wants the footage of the flight she nearly died on? Odd. "Yeah. We've got most of the camera footage in storage." She gestures into the Ready Room and leads the way. "Honestly, we try to avoid the Sabers. They are way too dangerous. And the ranges are extreme. Trying to strike them i something I'd pretty much just put out of my mind and left for someone higher up to deal with. So I don't know if there are other flights to look at." She heads over to the computer at the side of the room, the one that controls the overhead projector. "What're the goals of the project? Are you all looking for advice? Technological help? Tactics?" she offers, glancing over.

Gloria follows Kelsey as she leads the way, nodding as she mentions avoidance being a useful tactic. She can understand that. Then, as the queries start she looks faintly apologietic, "to be honest sir, I'm not entirely sure yet. Just that Intel want me to 'spearhead research on the topic of suppression of the Saber SAMs utilized by the Cylons'. I figure that the best place to start is by finding out what information we have on them and doing a review of that. Hopefully from there something will fall out as a direction to investigate." Turning slightly so she can view the screen as well as Kelsey she adds, "they mentioned surpression at least twice though, so I suspect at sometpoint it'll get technical as well as tactical."

Kelsey pulls up the files on the overhead and begins looking through them. It's sorted y date and she groans, a hand lifting to rub at her temple. "Suppression. Yeah, that seems to indicate a few things. Technicalities are the focus of the ECO. Tactical is mine since I'm the pilot." She plods through the database. "We've got a lot on them, just that we haven't done anything with it yet except plug in the correct early warning signals into our ships. We've also been shown their engagement limits so we just avoid those limits when we hear the tone." She looks over. "So you think someone upstairs wants to actually go after these things and try to hit them? On Aerilon? Because I've heard they protect some pretty important shit. Dunno how reliable that is."

Gloria starts making notes, not copious ones, but Kelsey's comments about what they've done so far are noted. "I take it all the fleet's raptors have that early warning tweek?" she asks, then adds, "is it the same for vipers?" and "Could you send me a copy of the limits so I can reference them?" Ah, the joys of starting from scratch. "I can only speculate I'm afraid, I work countermeasures up in CIC usually, so I would guess it's likely that they want to explore options relating to dealing with them. But given they've assigned one PO3 I would guess it's not for anythign they're planning immediately, more a long term need to be able to address the threat."

Kelsey nods slowly. "Oh yeah. You better beleive it. Every single ship in the fleet has had their EW sensors fixed so they know what to listen for. If it's on the surface of a planet, we can usually pick it out from space pretty easily. They're powerful dradis sets." She continues searching through the computer. "I'll send you the briefing sheet and have you looped into the classification for the Sabers and the other SAM systems so you know what we're looking at. It shouldn't be any trouble." The woman sighs as she continues searching. "Yeah, I'm assuming this is going to be a long term project. Killing Sabers is something that's never going to become routine, I'm guessing."

Gloria makes a note against the first note on her list, good start that, five minutes in and already making notes on your notes. "I've neverly transfered across to Orion, so I ahven't actually seen anything the systems deployed in anger. I'll have a look at the upgrades though and make sure I understand them." She seems fairly confident on that at least. "Do you also happen to know if Lieutenant Vashti would be interested in continuing her research in this direction? I've been told that Intel got clearance for the pair of you for this, but that I'd have to check in with teh CAG if I needed to call on anyone else."

Wescott seems ot understand. "Don't sweat it. If it turns out you need it, we can get you a passenger slot on a mission to give you an idea of how it all works with our systems. Just don't bugger the ECO while we are out, ya know, eh?" she offers with a low smile. "As far as Vashti goes? Not sure. You'll want to hunt her down and fidn out. If she doesn't, I've got a few ideas. We've got some good ECO's but a fresh-meat one might benefit from this, too. Learn the dangers of the job and all that. Other than that, it's up to you. Let me gather all the info I have access to. I'll take the week, talk to Vashti or find you another ECO. We can meet up next weekend or soemthing and put everything on a table and look it over. See what we have. Because finding this tape is gonna take me a good bit of time," she chuckles.

Gloria looks ever so faintly green at the suggestion of a flight and notes, quietly, "thank you for the thought Lieutnenant, but I failed the medical for ECO training due to severe space sickness in small craft. I think I'd be too busy feeling like death to actually observe the happenings. Cam footage will have to do." The idea of meeting back in a week seems to appeal though and she smiles once more, "that sounds like a reasonable plan sir. I'll find us somewhere to work, and let you know. I'll also see if there's anything that might be of use in the ship's library and bring it along."

Kelsey looks apologetic. "God that sucks. I'm really sorry, Petty Officer. Well maybe pop some dramamine or something? temporary fix? I dunno. But if you get a hair for it, let me know. I'll try to arrange video." She look back to the laptop and stops what she's doing. The pad behidn it has a few notes taken. "Hey, sure. I'll stop and get what I can. Do me a favor and talk to Intel and see if you can get us a map of known locations of the Sabers and we can go from there. It may not be useful right now, but it may be handy to have later. Thanks."

"It is what it is sir," Gloria replies, having long ago given up on that dream. At the mention of maps though she nods and makes another note, "will do sir. I'll also ask if they have any additional information themsevles that might be of use." Sensing that this might be a good place to take her leave she takes half a step towards the hatch and notes, "I'll leave you to it then sir, thank you for your time, and I'll let you know when I have a room sorted for next weekend."
