Combat Information Center - Deck 2
The Combat Information Center is the tactical heart of the Orion. This CIC is designed in a circular formation, the Admiral apparently a fan of the classical set-up. Dead center are a set of large monitors suspended from the ceiling with DRADIS readings as well as other vital shipboard information. Under this is a small map table outlining current plots and positions. The table has a built-in phone as well as smaller displays as to critical damage reports. Both port and starboard other watch stations are set at all times, in two rows of tiers like stadium seating, one above the other. Each station has a purpose — Helm, Weapons, Communications, Electronic Warfare, Damage Control, and further tactical monitoring. More displays and banks of computer monitors line the walls. This area is heavily guarded by Marines at all hours of the day and night.

"To the members of Task Force Nomad, and the population of Piraeus: Today, we have spent over three hundred days under siege, and in a couple of weeks, most of us will be celebrating Saturnalia. Despite the dire events of the year, we DO have things to be happy for and celebrate:

"First, I need to communicate a reminder and a warning: Non-military personnel should not be leaving the marked boundaries of the Piraeus Base Site unless you have military escort. Pireaus is a dangerous wilderness where we have already seen multiple animal attacks and some deaths reported. Additionally, it would appear Adar's mapping team was not very thorough and missed some dangerous radiation sources that appear to be naturally occurring - while normally these would be buried too deep to worry, our new home has seen tectonic activity in the recent past, and we are discovering some areas that are outright lethal to unprotected humans. Military personnel MUST comply with the posted No Fly Zones maintained by Fleet Air Traffic control. Pilots that violate these bans without orders from Fleet HQ are in danger of having their flight status revoked, or court martialed.

"We have the colony of Picon mostly secured from Cylon ground and air forces, and while Fleet is never going to call a war zone 'safe', we have the machines fighting the guerilla war now rather than our own forces. Basestars that might arrive in Picon orbit are in danger of being destroyed before they can do any significant damage, and the Fleet maintains a persistent capital ship presence in orbit now, alert for the Cylons attempting to take the colony back.

"Picon's status has allowed us to focus more on the fight in Aerilon, which is not going quite as well. The resistance has been losing ground for weeks under continual Cylon assault, so NOMAD has committed heavier forces and actions to supporting the tankers and marines on the ground. We will be constantly sending in Air Wing flights on light cruisers to perform lightning strikes on basestars and their air forces, as well as sending in Predators to support the ground attack, and Raptors to carry fresh marines and supplies and bring back critical medical cases to Picon. We have also been able to recover working Rhinos, heavy attack ground support craft we had thought were lost - if you need a symbol to hang on to during the fight, I recommend watching a recording of one of these beasts cutting loose on the enemy.

"We have also taken a more active stance on scouting out the Enemy's presence outside of the colonies, but this comes with additional risks, and more somber news. One of our scout fleets was ambushed by six Cylon basestars recently. The Corvettes Pennibaker and Saloo were disabled before they could spool up FTL and retreat. With no other option and the safety of Piraeus at stake, the crews of the Pennibaker and Saloo turned their nuclear missiles on each other. Only their heroic sacrifice prevented the Cylons from discovering the location of our last refuge. While we honor our fallen during this season, we ask for a moment of silence to acknowledge these members of Fleet that made the ultimate sacrifice to keep Pireaus and the millions of citizens here, safe.

"So Say We All."
