0230 hours local. Picon doesn't have a moon so its only starlight to illuminate the ground. Well, that and their night vision. But at this southern-hemisphere operational site, its cold. Damned cold. Its the kind of humid cold that gets through all the little breathing holes in your uniform and chills the bone rather than the skin. But after an exhaustive ten mile hike to the abandoned and shot-up town of Vladapoinet, the group of Marines is left with a few options and forty miles to go. They can take a car and make it in less than an hour and ensure darkness, while risking easier detection. Or they can take bicycles and probably get there -around- dawn but move more securely. Standing in the town square, that's what they've got to work with.

There's nothing quite like a brisk hike to get the circulation going, although Vladapoinet itself is a welcome site once the relative safety of it's remains are reached. Eyeing up the options, and the Sergeant's leg, Amos states practically, "I don't think all of us could manage to cover the rest of the distance on a bike so we take the car but ditch it a few miles out and hike the rest. That way we limit the chance of them detecting it and arrive on target fresher and with the darkness still on our side." He glances round the assembled marines, "any questions or comments?" They've had longer to study the intel than him after all.

In the absence of orders to the contrary, Private Mallas falls out and finds a seat against a wall where he can plunk down. "Two whole divisions of grunts down here and /we/ draw /this/ frakkin' assignment…" he mutters to himself. Yeah, it's cold as Hades and he's humping a full pack, some explosives, and a bunch of extra ammo, but he's hasn't really groused about any of that. Not much anyway. Given his posture, he is probably all in favor of taking a car, but he leaves the opinion-having to the officers and NCOs.

Lleufer takes a tiny sip from the water flask he's brought with him, glad it's not cold enough to freeze. If it was, it wouldn't be humid chill, there'd be frost. Humidity will help muffle sound but only slightly. He leans his weight against a building to rest a moment and says low, "My leg is well mended for our hike in so far, but I'm not going to be able to hold out for a 40 mile bicycle trip up a ridgeline, sir." He gives a nod to what Amos says. Lleu thinks about the car, "Drive it with the lights off, go slowly enough to not raise a dust cloud. Could work." He glances to LC Jast who'd been on the last mission with him.

"Car sounds good to me," comes a new voice, that belonging to Lance Corporal O'Connell. "I never did like bikes," gets tacked on then while she shrugs. She is not exactly 'official' yet so is unsure as to whether or not the others will want her opinion or if they'd rather she shut up and let them do the important stuff like making decisions.

The MP Sergeant adds, "Let's make sure we have enough gas in it to also get the hell back out to our pickup point."

Distant, businesslike expression. That's how things are for Corporal Fischer as he looks around for a few moments, before he shrugs, "Doesn't matter to me if we pick one of the other, as long as it gets the job done." A brief pause, before he mutters something under his breath, with only the words 'kid', 'five' and 'forgotten' being heard by others, quite probably.

Either Erik has no opinion of which mode of vehicle to take or he is keeping it to himself, but when the consensus is to take a car, the Heavy Weapons expert basically hefts his kit and gets ready to move out with the others. He is just eager to get going and get to the meaty part of the mission, and that is the SABER site that needs killing.

"Well volunteered Sergeant," Amos offers to Lleufer as he mentions fuel, "I'll leave that in your capable hands but I want us ready to move out in five." Turning to the others he continues, "right, who feels like they can hotwire one of these crates and who reckons they're up for driving through unfamiliar terrain in neigh on pitch black? Sort it out between yourselves and start loading up."

Lleufer gives Fischer a -look- before he says low, "Stay focused on here and now, Corporal." Not on his kid, nor on Baca's death on the last mission. Looking back to Amos, Lleu skips the salute since they are on mission and nods, "You got it, sir." He heads off to help the others find a suitable vehicle and make certain it's got some gas in it. He adds low, "If you bust the steering column cover off, you can use a screw driver and skip the hot wiring on a lot of models. Or any other slender wedge, doesn't have to be metal."

Ah. Who knew a criminal past would come in handy now that Brina's been on the straight and narrow and joined the Marines? "I can try," she says while reaching into a pocket, seeking out the multitool she has in one of the deeper pants pocket. That's all she does now as Amos might want someone he actually knows on the job and not a stranger who's trustworthiness hasn't been proven yet.

"Focused on this, Sergeant," Fischer replies. "Don't worry about it." A brief pause, as he offers a grin to Amos. "My driving would be more dangerous than anything else we could run into, sir," he offers.

<FS3> Lleufer rolls Alertness: Great Success

What? Fischer didn't flip him the bird? Lleufer glanced back to see if he did, but then goes on about his business to go searching for a vehicle. Now if any luck or the Gods are with them, it won't be some broke down little thing only two of them can fit into else it'll be Clown Car time. Hilarious as that would be for Big Damned Heros, the Aerilion would prefer a truck. "Come on, Lance Corporal O'Connell, we'll find something." And in fairly short order, Lleu indeed does find something. Something that pleases him. He comes back to report to the Captain, "Sir, found an SUV with the keys in it, half tank of gas. Tires could use a little air but aren't flat. Looks like the driver … was probably shot some time ago. Remains of a body by it, sir." He thumbs over his shoulder to indicate the direction, then will lead them to it.

Amos notes the exchange between Lleufer and Fischer, but leave it in the Sergeant's hands for now, not wanting to step in if the man has it covered. Shifting his attention to Brina he gives a brief upnod in acknowledgement to her offer then lets them get on with their tasks, taking a moment to study the map while the search is on. As Lleufer returns with his news he gives the man a brief smile, "the Gods are smiling on us it seems. Alright then, lets load up and get on with this. Sooner we're in, the sooner we can all get out of here and back to our cosy little bunks." That said he moves to follow the lead, trusting the others are doing the same.

Mallas's search for an appropriate vehicle involves craning his neck to look up and down the street. The exchange between some MP sergeant and Fischer gets a scowl from Mallas, who just looks confused about the whole thing. Otherwise Mallas manages to fill the halt by catching a breather. And the news about the SUV is met with mixed feelings. A lot better than riding a bike, but it also means he's got to load up. With a grunt he hefts himself back on his feet, double checks his gear, and then makes his way towards the vehicle.

The mention of Baca without mentioning her has Erik glancing towards Lleufer and Fischer, his own expression growing a bit more steely. He doesn't volunteer to hotwire a car, as his expertise lies more in blowing one up than jumpstarting one. When the Marine comes back with news of their ride, the Heavy Weapons soldier hefts his gear and gets ready to move out to the SUV that will bring them near their destination.

There's a twinge of disappointment when the vehicle with the keys is discovered but it passes quickly and Brina manages to take it in stride. "I hope someone can drive because I sure as frak can't." Not exactly the most common of things for someone her age to not know how to do but when people were the age where learning how to drive was important she was busy surfing… and breaking the law. Her pack's resettled upon her shoulder and then it's a matter of waiting, the petite MP waiting to get the command to move out before doing so.

Fischer shakes his head a bit at Lleufer's glance back, then turns to check on his rifle once more. Shrugging a little again as he moves for the SUV along with the others when they start moving. Keeping quiet as most of his attention is on their surroundings for the moment.

Everything is loaded up. Lleufer looks to Erik, "I drove in last time and you drove out. Wanna do that again? I liked shooting the cop cars." He twists one side of his mouth wryly, about the only fun thing that happened last time. He puts his pack into the truck and moves to take the driver's seat unless the Captain says otherwise.

Amos eyes the squad as they loadup, not entirely happy with the level of concentration from some of them but he's still of a mind to trust that Lleufer, who has the advantage of nowing them all, can get it sorted. With no one apparently offering to drive he pulls the map out of his pocket and hands it to the nearest marine, "if none of you ladies fancy a drive," he offers in good humour, "then I guess I'll have to." The lucky one with the map then gets the additional, "you're navigator. Lets move."

Its a lot of very tight quarters in the SUV. It was never meant to hold more than two parents and three kids or small adults plus a dog in the back. But this many Marines? Get skinny! Forty miles doesn't seem like a long way, but there's no radio and the tapedeck doesn't look like its worked since the first war. The heater makes an obnoxious buzzing sound, too. But its very dark and very isolating. The road is paved all the way up and abandoned vehicles litter the side of the road, some of them exploded. Remains can still be seen in the seats of some of them. A lot of people fleeing. Others, who have died more recently, have up-armored vehicles and died fighting with rifles still laying beside them. The small size of some of the corpses is a sure reminder that the fighting on Picon is largely done by teenagers, even young ones. The trip takes about an hour due to taking it easy around blind corners or checking something suspicious. But eventually they get to within three miles and the site can be seen in the distance. Its lit up like Saturnalia, floodlights all over the interior and extending outward towards the dirt floor and few large rocks surrounding the facility. It sits up on a ridge at the highest point for miles and no matter which way they come at it, its going to be an uphill fight.

Brina has been singing under her breath the entire ride. First it's a love song but that gets boring quickly and she turns to some oldies with the majority of what she knows being surfing tunes (think something like Beach Boys). She's on the last refrain to one song she loves in particular when the lights are noticed, the sight of which gets her to go quiet quickly save for a single sigh. At least she hasn't noticed the corpses. Gods know she's seen enough since this whole screwed up thing has started.

Amos had been feeling relatively optimistic, what with the abandoned vehicles offering good cover for their own in case of passing patrols. The site of the facility deadens that somewhat though and after he stops the SUV he spends a good few moments eyeing it carefully before turning back to the squad. "Alright. Anyting you don't need, ditch it now," he orders, motioning both to his pack and tapping the side of his skull. "We'd had a splendid little jolly up to this point but from here on it this is the real thing. We get in, we do the job, we get out. Nothing else matters until we're in that extraction Raptor and heading home. Got it?"

After being stuffed into the SUV, Erik actually falls asleep or looks like he has dozed off. It appears that this particular Marine is able to grab shuteye whenever it is available, trusting his squadmates to locate and warn about trouble when need be. However, when they near the drop off point, the Lance Corporal wakes up by himself, eyes slowly opening, maintaining his silence as they disembark from their stolen transport.

Mallas avoids navigator-duty, as he habitualy avoids being any nearer an officer than he can help. At first he dozes in the back of the SUV, oblivious to singing or conversation. But at one point he jerks awake long enough to spot some of the corpses as they flash past. Nothing to put your mind at ease like seeing what's left of some other unlucky bastard while you're headed up to the front yourself. After that the Private does a lot less dozing, looking around nervously through his NVG. When they finally arrive he piles out the back and makes readies to move out.

Keeping quiet for all of the drive, Fischer lets out a bit of a breath as they get out of there. Stretching his legs a bit extra now, he looks to the others, "What's the plan, sir?" he offers to Amos, a bit quietly now.

The Aerilon Sergeant is very quiet, watchful. Lleu doesn't mind if Brina has to practically sit on his lap with the map. A fella can have one last smile before he goes to hell, right? Most of his attention is on their surroundings. He's got his lowlight optics and keeps a sharp eye out. Lleufer notices the bodies and watches for anybody who might use the wrecks as cover to set on them. When they stop, he gets out for a better look. Lleu listens to Amos and thins his lips for a long moment in thought, "Maybe … maybe me and whoever is going in to set the charges with me, should go in first. Stealthy as we can. The rest of you could creep up as close as you dare and wait in the truck. When the charges are set, or if we are discovered, then you could drive up fast as it'll come and ram the gate to go direct to the command post. What do you think, Captain? It'll be difficult to get us /all/ up stealthy like and unseen with the place lit up like a bonfire at festival."

Lleu's little map-bearing almost-lapwarmer folds the map neatly and tucks it into a pocket before she tosses a few non-essentials into the back of the pilfered auto. "My gum better be here when we get back or else someone's going to die." And with how grumpy she sounds when she says that it just miiiiiiight be a threat she's willing to make good on. The logicists are caught and she goes silent, listening with her ears instead of running off at the mouth.

Amos listens attently to Lleufer as he speaks, then turns to survey the ground between them and the target once more. "Your standard centurian can see well enough in the dark," he states, turning back to others, "so don't let those lights put you off. If anything it helps us, levels the playing field as we can now see them all the more clearly." He lets that sink in for a moment then gives Lleufer a short, sharp nod, "get it done Sergeant, take the Lance Corporal with you." Just in case there's a doubt as to which Lance Corporal he motions towards Brina, keeping the MPs together it seems. "First sign of trouble and we'll give 'em something else to think about at the gate."

Moving to the back of the SUV where his heavy gear is stored, Erik retrieves the 'big gun' that he will be bringing with him, along with four rounds that the shoulder launching boom stick will be spitting out at anything that is big and shiny. He wasn't kidding when he told them that he's the Heavy Weapons expert. The other piece of weaponry would be the sidearm at his hip, a pistol. Heftig the weapon, he rejoins the group as they decide who will be going. It appears obvious that Erik, with his choice of weapon, will be the one that gives the Cylons something else to think about.

Lleufer looks like he'd like to pick his backup and opens his mouth to name someone else, but he glances at Brina, "I can set the charges if you'll cover my ass. Question is, are you stealthy at all?" He takes a few things from his pack but is leaving it so he can move fast and light. Rifle, satchel with charges, making sure between himself and Brina they'll have enough, but not all. Incase they get dead and the rest have to set the charges instead. "Might want to lend me your pistol with supressor incase we find dogs, sir." Lleu glances to Fischer, "Truth be told, I know Fischer here can be as stealthy as me, sir. Better choice?" No offence, Brina.

An upnod is given to the one who apparently is giving the orders to signify she's listening and that she understands what it is she's supposed to do. Lleufer is approached by Brina then who stops when he requests Fischer goes with him instead. "Make up your fraking minds. I'm feeling like a yoyo here." Smirking, she turns and heads back towards the others.

Fischer shrugs a little as he listens now, offering a brief smile. "I'm good with whatever," he offers, a bit quietly at the moment, looking between the others very briefly. Ready to go or stay, as instructed now.

Amos has no compunction with handing over said pistol to Lleufer, although he dose give it a habitual, quick check first. At the comment on who might be more stealthy he turns to look at Fischer, waiting the man's response. He seems somewhat less than impressed when it comes though and shakes his head to the MPs, "It's the pair of you Sergeant." He's trusting on less skill but proper mindset over distracted it seems then turns back to those staying with him, "alright then, lets get into position," to Erik, "I doubt I need to say that you'll be openning the batting for us Lance Corporal."

A flick of his gaze to Fischer who, admittedly, gave a wishy washy reply - especially for a Marine. Sergeant Ynyr draws a breath and accepts the pistol, giving it a quick check over and making certain it's loaded, "All right, sir. Let's go, Lance Corporal. Your best stealthy sneakup as if your very life depended on it. Follow my lead." Lleufer takes the bolt cutters from the truck and secures them with a strap to toss it over his back until he needs them, leaving his hands free for rifle. The pistol he puts in his hip holster, handing his regular sidearm to the Captain. "Wish us luck. I'll use the radio to let you know when we have things in place, sir."

If there is nothing else, Sergeant Ynyr turns to head out.

"Ready when we are all in place, sir." Erik says with a nod to Amos, no doubt knowing that he will be supplying the shock and awe that will no doubt draw the Cylon's attention. And he plans on hitting a homerun with what he has, letting the Cylons remember that the humans are still very much in the fight. The assassination of Adar was a start, but its success came at a very costly price.

Mallas shrugs out of his pack and spends the time stowing as many extra rifle magazines and hand grenades as he can on his web gear. That and eyeing the blazing light of the SAM site with a pale and nervous air. When the Captain gives the word to move out, Mallas say a muttered prayer and goes to take his place in the skirmish line next to Erik. "Ares, give me strength … to kill those canner mother frakkers."

"Gods go with you," Amos offers to the MPs as he takes the pistol, then switches out his pack for just what he'll need on the assualt. Once he's sure he's ready he moves over towards Fischer and says quietly, "Corporal. A word if you please."

Fischer nods a little, going back to looking over his weapon a few extra times just in case. "Sir?" he asks, voice kept rather quiet, as he hears Amos, offering a nod to the officer now.

Amos gets close to Fischer, it's not quite helmet to helmet but it's pretty close. Keeping his voice low but firm he states in a voice that he hopes won't carry, "I need you focused for this Corporal. If you can't put everything else to one side and focus on the task at hand then you're a liability to yourself, to me, to the squad and to this mission. If that's the case you need to tell me now, so I can do something about it before it starts risking lives. Focus Corporal. Can you do it?"

Brina's rifle is held at the ready, muzzle held down and safety on, what playful demeanor she had sobering. A mouthed 'amen' is given to Mallas' prayer before she gets in place. "Ready whenever you guys are," she announces, the blonde ready to cover Lleufer's six now that they've finally made up their mind as to where they want her. "Shit, this is almost as fun as waiting to wait for a wave on a flat day."

Expression quite neutral as he hears Amos, Fischer gives a quick nod. "Wouldn't be out here if I couldn't focus on the task at hand, sir," he replies, words kept quiet for the moment. "Don't worry about it."

Amos watches Fischer like a hawk as he answers, then for a little longer, then gives the man a short nod of acknowledgement before moving off again to wait the go.

<FS3> Brina rolls Stealth: Success.
<FS3> Lleufer rolls Stealth: Good Success.

Moving a couple miles to approach a heavily patrolled base over very little cover that gets more and more lit as they approach? It takes awhile. Its about an hour before dawn before they finally get up close to the wire. The two Marines up closest can see the details of what's there, who is there, and just what they are up against as they get to the fenceline. Its very suddenly an uncomfortable place to be and it probably feels a bit like being on stage in one's underwear.

Mallas watches Lleufer and Brina sneak off with a slow shake of his head. Poor frakkers. Then he moves out with the main group, picking his way cautiously forward with rifle at the ready. But he's frequently forced to pause so he can flip his night vision gear up and down, every time he wants to look at the brightly lit compound. "Godsdamn … What the frak do they need all those lights for anyway?" he mutters to no one in particular.

As they begin to near the hotzone, Erik pauses for a second and goes down to a knee. There, he pulls out one of the rockets from his pack and loads it into the laucher, not wanting to spend time to load the first round when the shit hits the fan. Only when it is loaded and the weapon is ready to go does the Lance Corporal begin to move again with the main group.

Amos settles himself down to wait with the backup squad once they're as close as they dare, keeping half an eye on the two MPs while he can. It seems fitting to whisper at this point, and so thats what he does, to Erik, "if you have a clear line of fire on what the boffins think is the command post, then that's your primary target. Be wary of the missile store though, someone has come up with the theory that they might have nukes here."

Watching the two in front, Fischer glances between the others for a few moments. "For making sure you have something to wonder about?" he remarks to Mallas, before he goes back to watching, keeping his rifle ready for now.

With his left little finger taped to his third finger to keep it out of his way, Lleufer is completely focused on the hunt. This is BIG GAME, very, very dangerous game and the sneak up stalk is on. He takes a quick look, bolt cutters already coming into hand, rifle hung by it's strap from his shoulder. Shit, those are sixes and there's Centurions coming along the fenceline. They've got maybe a minute until they'll be seen. There's no time and there's basically no cover to get back to. No way they won't see the hole. Steel for balls, said Spree.

Sergeant Ynyr's heart is beating a bit fast as he moves to cut the wire. Do it quick, because they have got to get through and make a mad dash to the closest cover - and hope to hell they can do it without being seen right off. Did we mention dangerous, daring shit? He whispers to Brina as he cuts fast as he can, "They are going to see the hole, or us. Alarm goes, we gotta get to the flaplid and set these off at once." Then they are probably dead, if they even make it that far.

Brina follows only to come up short once they're in sight of the Sixes, the sheer number of them surprising her. It isn't enough to distract her from what she's supposed to do, however, and the Sergeant's ass is covered while he does his thing. "Understood, Sarge." Her eyes narrow as she scans the area immediately around them, trying to keep situationally aware at all times. The safety is thumbed off and set to semi-auto, just in case they need to do some shooting fast.

<FS3> Brina rolls Stealth: Good Success.
<FS3> Lleufer rolls Stealth: Failure.

The wire is cut, plink, plink. Lleufer knows the clock is ticking and they have handfulls of seconds at most to get through and make for cover before the Centurions will pass that small structure and bushs and have a clear line of sight. As soon as there is enough room, Lleu goes through and holds the wife for Brina to get through. He then turns and starts to move quickly and low for the closest cover - fast! But the handle of the bolt cutters snags on the fence and the wire snaps back with an audible rustle! Gods damn. There's nothing for it but to go, go!

Brina rolls her eyes and bolts for where they need to go, trying to stick to the shadows as she does. It's going to be hard to hide though. They will undoubtedly see them but she's going to try and stay out of sight for as long as she can. Hopefully Lleufer will think to try to do the same.

-PRANG- echoes across that corner of the base when the bush slaps into the fence. It might as well have been an alarm going off. One of he Sixes turns his head in time to see Lleufer running across the open area between the buildings and the fence and he lifts his SMG into the air and fires a short burst. It takes about ten seconds to reach the Marines in the SUV, and when it does it comes as a muffled rip of reports in the air. There's no other alarm, no wailing sirens, nothing. But instantly everything at the Saber site is alerted. The Sixes are shouting to one another about where they saw the Marines dash to and everyone starts converging.

Gods Frak! He's got the worst luck. It's because he's not religious, isn't it? The Gods scowl. Lleufer makes a mental note that if he lives through this, he better start thanking the gods and praying his ass off for forgiveness. If it's not already too late. Run mother frakk'n Marine, run! Bolt cutters be damned, Sergeant Ynyr has rifle in one hand and his other on the demolitions satchel strap. He uses what cover he can get to but they don't have much time. Get it between him and them, then make the mad sprint for the flaplid.

<COMBAT> Cent2 will attack Lleufer this turn. (Dropkick)

Amos knows that sound when he hears it and assumes the others do to. "Frak," he mutters under his breath as he guns the engine and sets off at best speed towards the compound, trusting that Erik will let him know if he needs to go left or right to give the man a decent line of fire.

The sound of gun, though muffled by the distance, is unmistakeable and soon enough Erik is ready as the SUV begins to roar its way towards the Cylon SABER Site. As they get closer, the Lance Corporal is keeping an eye out for targets of opportunities, either something that looks like a command center or a Cylon vehicle that could take them out. For now he remains silent, choosing not to say anything unnecessary, adrenaline definitely running through him now.

There's a pained yelp from Brina who's shot just as she squeezes the trigger. She's hit despite the armor she wears but, by the grace of the gods, she manages to not only hit her target but somehow take out one of the bastard Sixes. Gritting her teeth, she looks around before finding yet another target, her weapon fired at it next.

Amos is thinking some very ungentlemanly thoughts as the SUV races over the ground towards the cylon position. "Any canner you see, put it on the deck," he states, more to ensure everyone is focused than tell them something he thinks they don't already know. His foot firmly on the floor he's still keeping an eye out for likely lines of fire for Erik.

<COMBAT> Erik has joined the combat as a soldier on team 1.
<COMBAT> Erik has changed armor to Heavy Bodyarmor.
<COMBAT> Erik has changed weapons to Missile_AP.

When Mallas imagined his first fire-fight against real live Cylons it did not include hanging on for dear life in a blacked-out SUV racing towards a heavily guarded missile site. And now that it's actually happening? He still can't believe it. "Gods … just let me get out of this frakking truck alive."

Run, Forest, Run! The Aerilon Marine Sergeant sprints his heart out, nevermind his recently healed injury to his left thigh. Lleu knew this was halfway a suicide mission, no excuses about not knowing what he signed on for. Somehow he manages by luck and adrenline to not to get shot to death before he can reach the flaplid. Go Brina, trying to cover his ass just as she said she would! Good girl! Ynyr makes it to the huge SABER vehicle's trailer the flap is structured upon. He pulls the first large charge and while he's under fire, coldly focused, he sets it at the very narrow base that supports the primary structure. Lleu glances up - the flaplid is erect, turning, radiating and active. The Sergeant doesn't waste any time setting the detonation if he can do so without being interrupted.

Eyes continues to scan the compound that is now on full alert, trying to determine what structures are just structures and what is important. Something does stand out at range, they are still a mile out which is an extreme range, but with Erik's comrades are in trouble. Opening the sun roof, the Heavy Weapons Marine stands up inside the SUV so that the rocket launcher is lifted out, then follows the head and upper torso. He then proceeds to brace himself against the back ledge of the sun roof as he shoulder mounts his weapon. Eye-piece is pressed against his face as he acquires the target which is small at this range. "I have a target, sir. Command Post, it's pretty far but I'm gonna give it a shot."

Lleufer is hit, a round slamming into his body armour at his gut. No! Don't waver, get the charge set! He grits his teeth, gets the demolition charge going, then turns to see where Brina is, "SET!" It's all the warning she's going to get, coming over the radio set and not shouted. Sergeant Ynyr turns and is about to make a sprint for the next target, the clam shell or the big bird, whichever is closer (and any cover along the way). But that's when he's struck with a second round to his left arm, up in the bicep area. Blood splatters, the round going right through.

The incoming 84mm round was totally not expected under the current amount of gunfire rattling around the site. The round explodes in a puff against the side of the huge steel truck and shakes the whole thing, blowing off a tire and the right side sagging towards the ground. Centurions are scrambling and looking towards the distance where the rocket might have come from. But getting closer, the Marines in the truck can make it out about the same time that other two in the base can. The Clam Shell radar mast is slowly lifting towards the sky. Its the only other targeting radar at the site. Maybe they expect to lose the Flap Lid? Those are the three targets, though. The Clam Shell, the Command Post, and the Flap Lid. The Wing can carpet bomb the rest if they can knock them all out.

More shots, these hitting her in other places that hurt. Not overly serious but she's bleeding out of not one but three holes now. "Guys…" she announces over the coms while trying to make sure she's able to stay on her feet. "I'm taking enemy fire here. Been shot three times. I'm going to try to keep covering Sarge's ass but we need help, here." And one more time, she tries to shoot the target that's recently decided to use her as a living clay pidgeon.

After steadying himself and his aim, Erik feels like he has a solid aim on his intended target and depresses the trigger. There is a nice 'woosh' as the rocket roars out of the shoulder tube and screams towards the target. It goes boom when it hits the Command Post, it's a solid hit but not enough to kill it. Instead of cursing, Erik immediately ducks back down into the SUV to grab another round to reload.

With Erik back inside and reloading, Amos eyes the bass infront of him and slides the truck to a top where the Corporal can still fire on the main targets. "Get to cover," he yells, not particularly feeling like waiting like a sitting duck in the vehicle. Or indeed, getting their best means of escape blow up by incomming rounds.

Mallas watches as Erik's rocket arcs into the command vehicle, giving a short whoop of approval. Then he leaps out as soon as the Captain brings the vehicle to a stop. Short, controlled bursts? Sorry, when you're crashing a fortified compound in an SUV, training goes out the window. He clamps down on the trigger, spraying bullets everywhere as he sweeps his fire across the group of enemies near the fence. Did he hit anything? Brina was going to look for cover but she finds herself shot again. And again. And wow. Yeah. Instead of running to cover she kind of crumbles to the ground, a little heap of injured MP. "Fraker." Gritting her teeth, Brie tries to find a way to shoot from her prone position although it's taking time for her to think of how to make that work, the injuries sustained a distraction.

<COMBAT> Brina will pass this turn.

Getting out of the car as soon as it stops, Fischer moves into a good firing position to send off another burst at the same target as before. Getting to the point where his mind doesn't do much, but instinct takes over fully now.

Mallas blinks as he realizes that he still has rounds in his weapon. Didn't he fire like a million bullets? It would seem not. So he pokes his rifle around the corner of the SUV again and clamps down on the trigger once more, hosing down the skinjobs and Centurions.

<COMBAT> Amos has changed stance to cover.

Lleufer's arm is bleeding. He has no time to stop and bind it, bad as it is. He has no time for anything, not even to see that Brina takes more hits and is badly hurt. Sergeant Ynyr has one focus - reach the clamshell. So he pushes himself harder maybe than he ever has in his whole life to run again while he's still able - get another charge set.

As the Sergeant runs, not far behind him the first charge goes off. A bright flash at the base of the flaplid. It is like a clap of Zeuz's thunder or Ares himself striking! It rrrrooooolllllsssss out with a shockwave and throws shrapnal debris into the air with smoke and fire. Ynyr tries to keep his feet, not daring to look back. The flaplid's tower begins to fall, almost in slow motion. There it goes …goes like a great tree of steel - and crashes with such force as the ground leaps with the impact.

Amos grunts as several rounds impact into his chest, even with with armour and extra bandaging to cover his still-not-entirely-healed previous injury. The round that hammers into his arm shifts his aim slightly and he mutters a quick prayer to Ares under his breath as he sees his rounds eithr miss or impact ineffectualy. "Short, controlled bursts," he calls out to Mallas as he instincivley flinches away from any shrapnel from the falling tower. That moment over he focuses again on his previous target, wanting to see it on the floor before he moves onto the next one.

Somewhere in the back of his mind, he is amazed that he wasn't shot again, blown up, or otherwise put out of action. Lleufer pushes, sucking breath hard and while he pays his rifle no attention as it slings around by it's strap on his shoulder, he does keep the satchel charges held close to his body with his right arm. Not loosing that! He makes it to the clamshell and sucking for air, he pulls the next charge to set it up. Frak'n Athenia's lovely pussy, but his left arm is not much use. He can barely do anything with it, blood soaking his sleeve rapidly. His heart rate is well up and it would be thundering in his ears as he sets the charge and the timer if it weren't for all the other noise. Gunfire, explosions, all hell breaking loose. Using mostly his right hand, Lleu does his best.

The structure still stands though and appears to be operational, so the Marine ducks back in to reload once more.

There's a bit of a grim smile as he sees the Centurion he was attacking going down now, and then Fischer looks around. Where did that hit to his chest come from? Spotting the offending Centurion, he turns his rifle for it, nodding a bit to himself as he squeezes the trigger.

Frak. What is that?

That's what gets Brina on her hands and knees, crawling to the cover of a supply crate that's not too far and has not been too damaged by weapons fire. The amount of rounds flying around is enough to nearly lay down on. The explosion of the Flap Lid has caused holy hell and the truckbed of the mast is flipped over and burning. The Clam Shell is already coming up and is just reaching a 45 degree angle… boom. Its a bright flash followed by a roiling fireball cloaked in dust and swirling debris. The rear end of the Clam Shell's trailer lifts up and sideways through the air, twisting. The base of the mast shears away and tumbles sideways. When it lands, it falls cross one of the TEL trucks and the dish hits the missile tubes. The whole end vanishes in a bright light and the explosion rips across the site, hammering everything and everyone with shrapnel as four long-range missiles explode inside their truck tubes.

Two more left and one of the two rounds is now loaded into the launcher. With an exhale, he rises through the sun roof once more and takes aim for the Commandpost yet again. And once more, he releases another rocket at the building, wanting to take it down, the primary mission for him.

Brina gets rattled when she uses her rifle; even if the recoil isn't as bad as it could be it still jars Brina's injured body, causing her to growl in pain. The weapon clicks as the ammo runs out and she ducks fully behind her crate so she can reload.

Did he hear the Captain, or just remember what he was supposed to do? Whatever it was, Mallas flips his rifle back to burst fire as he pops back out to re-engage. He sights down on the Six with the rifle and squeezes the trigger. Hey, that guy looks exactly like their skinjob Sergeant! This causes him no hesitation at all.

As a few hits slam into his chest, causing his own shots to go wide, Fischer hits the ground, crawling towards some cover, before he hurriedly aims and fires once more. Hopefully it'll work this time?

<COMBAT> Fischer has changed stance to Cover.

Amos is not having much luck with his rifle it seems, as another set of bullets sem to largely scatter uselessly off the canner's armour. Still, atleast his armour seems to have held up better this time and as a result he decided to stick where he is, rather then risk moving to somewhere where he might get more cover. As the clam goes up he calls over the radio "Sergeant, report," wanting to know the MPs' statuses, pull back towards our position if you're able, if not lay down covering and we'll come get you soon as we've finished with these canners." That said, and with two of the three targets down and the fourth being worked on, he decides to open up with his rifle and sends a much larger burst into the centurian thats been frustrating him so far.

The second charge is set on the clamshell! Go-go Marine! Lleufer finishes that job and starts to run - just in time to take a round to his right arm! Thankfully it's a graze, a second shot slamming into his body armour at his chest. It staggers him with the force but his armour prevents most of the injury. Thankfully. He's still on his feet but only because the shot threw him against the trailer frame!

Ynyr manages to get clear, running for his life when the second charge blows! It about knocks him flat on his face but he somehow keeps to a drunken stagger. Then there is an unexpected second concussion as the missile tubes go up! A two for one! How about that?

Half dazed, Lleu finds himself face against the pavement. He lets the demolitions satchel swing by it's strap as he forces himself back up, making sure he's still got it before he brings his rifle around. He staggers for whatever cover he can and looks for a target to fire upon.

Mallas watches in surprise as the skinjob he shot at is hit and flops over. He actually shot the guy! A sudden surge confidence floods the dull pain in his arm and torso as he turns his rifle on the remaining Centurion. Another burst of armor-piercing bullets is sent down range.

After the hit from Erik, the Command Truck explodes. The fuel bladder throws flaming debris everywhere, some of which crashes down on a liquid oxygen fueling line and burns through only a moment later. The flaming hose fires off in both directions and one goes to a launcher and sets a tub on fire while the other heads to a large concrete building dug into the terrain across the base. The flame vanishes for a moment and there's only the sound of gunfire. Then there's a bright blue flash like a bolt of lightning, but its actually the intense heat of the explosion. The fireball goes hundreds of feet into the air, aimed upwards by the shape of the bunker. Concrete chunks, reduced mostly to pieces the size of a baseball or smaller, go airborne and climb high into the sky. Its gonna be the most painful hail ever when it comes down… but more imemdiately, that heat burns them and singes exposed skin, people losing any exposed hair that the explosion was pointed towards. Their skin is going ot look a bit sunburned. It was almost like feeling a nuclear weapon go off. But the sound just doesn't seem so bad. But then again, neither does the gunfire. …It might have caused a bit of temporary hearing loss, yep.

Lleufer gets his arse to cover successfully, such as he can find. The corner of this structure, whatever it is, will have to do. More blasts rock the compound and he cheers as the command post is hit quite soundly, blowing debris everywhich way! A piece zips by and cuts his face and missing his goggles, Lleu doesn't care. He sees a centurion still up and flips his rifle to full auto to try and take that frakk'n can of sh*t down. And then the munitions storage goes up!

The concussion from that blast almost takes the structure down Lleufer's using for cover - but it also shields him in part, if not entirely! He feels the heat, tries to raise his left arm against the blast. His helmet and goggles help but damn, the noise is like a rip in the sky, deafening beyound anything he's ever felt before. And after that he's almost too dazed to fire. Where'd that Centurion go?

The heat from the explosion has the back of Brina's neck stinging, a pain that is very much like the bad sunburns she used to get after a long day on the water. It is ignored, though. She can't let it break her focus when she's wanting to take one last shot at the one last Centurion now that she's reloaded and good to go.

Fire fight or not, Amos is ducking down to take what cover he can from his rock when he sees all hell breaking loose. "Cover!" he yells, knowing the others are likely already doing the same, but just in case anyone is too occupied with something else to notice. Eyes pressed shut briefly to prevent flash damage he then brings himself back up into the ready position, trying to ignore the ringing in his ears. Maybe they should use the helmets as temple bells in future. It takes a brief moment for him to make sense of what he's seeing, but then the sole remaining centurian is spotted and he brings his rifle to bare on it, resorting back to a short burst given the amount of ammo he's already fired off.

Third time is apparently the charm because Erik's third rocket did wonders, setting off a rather nasty chain reaction, large enough to potentially cause friendly fire damage. He can feel the intense heat wave on parts of his body that isn't covered, and that is some portions of his face. Luckily, the goggles and helmet saves him from turning into a crisp, as does the body armor and gloves. It is still damn hot though and the Marine ducks back into the SUV out of reflex. The sound was the second thing, the detonation and explosion not as big as he had expected, almost like a shell had gone off near him. His eyes are still more than capable though and he spots the standing Centurion. Instead of going through the arduous process of reloading his launcher, he drops it into the SUV and pulls out his sidearm, taking aim and firing.

<COMBAT> Erik has changed stance to banzai.

Not being prepared for such an explosion, Fischer falls forward from the force of it, the hairs around his neck area getting singed from the heat. "Frak…" he mutters, before he lifts his rifle again. A bit dazed, but he aims for what seems like a Centurion now, and squeezing the trigger, almost on autopilot.

Mallas ducks back behind the vehicle again when he hears someone yelling 'Cover.' The shockwave rocks the SUV, the flash leaves him seeing spots, and the thunderous explosion has his ears ringing. But he still points his rifle in the general direction of the last Canner and squeezes the trigger. That big silver robot is over there somewhere.

Amos has been counting his bullets and knows he only has one left. Given there's no hostiles immediately visable he reloads quickly the gets on the radio again. "Sound off and converge on the vehicle. Well done one and all but we need to get out of here sharpish." It's possibly a little louder than needs be, but then he's still have issues with his ears and as he stands the pain of the bullets and that heat start to seep through his shield of adrenalin. He's still mobile though, and heads back towards teh SUV, checking around as he does so to ensure he's not about to be ambushed.

Instead of staying in the SUV, Erik reloads the launcher first, just in case there are anymore surprises that may pop up before he pops open one the doors to the SUV and disembarks. His intention is to help his squad and help take down anymore Centurions if they are in the area, the launcher slung across his back before pulling out his pistol again. "Jast here, area around the SUV is clear."

Lance Corporal O'Connell is quiet. There's nothing coming from her verbally but once in a while there is the sound of ragged breathing. A quick look around will find her curled back up behind the crate, her rifle just out of reach of an outstretched hand.

And down it goes. Sergeant Ynyr looks around for … any more things to shoot or blow up. Lacking that, all he sees is debris raining down, things on fire, and Brina over there laying prone behind a crate and partly under a trailer. He can barely see her, but she's down. Winded, he makes to force himself to run anyway - right for her position. Lleufer throws himself down under the trailer she's using for cover and rolls over, then tries to drag himself up beside her. Son of Zeus's ass! His left arm hurts so bad it almost makes him black out. No, no, suck for breath, hold it together. Shit's not over yet. Determined, he drags himself inches more towards her, "O'Connell!"

Lleufer gasps over the radio, "O'Connell down!"

<FS3> Amos rolls Awareness: Failure.

"Jast, get onto Spree's frequency," Amost starts, having heard Lleufer's radio call clearly enough it seems, "tell her we're done and requesting Raptor Evac with medical assistance." A pause, as he stops in his step to scan for a sign of the MPs. "Sergeant, your position?" he then transmits, given as he singularly fails to spot either of them.

Mallas looks around and sees the last Canner has fallen down. There's nothing left to shoot, so he looks up find Erik still alive in the sunroof perch. "Did you see that!? I frakkin' nailed that skinny!" Awww, victory. And not getting killed. He pauses a moment to stare at the smoking ruin of the command post, but looks away when Amos' orders come over the radio. The private moves around the vehicle to address the Captain directly. "A-okay, sir." He looks to have been grazed on the arm and taken several hits on his vest, but nothing too serious.

"I did a crappy job… of cove… er…" The apology is slurred and then incomplete. Brina is too weak to speak any further but at least she does seem to hear Lleufer. Her face is pale and her armor's stained red as well as several other spots on her uniform, the black now an ugly dark red because of the blood seeped into the synthetic material.

A smirk is thrown at Mallas by Erik, an amused one that is, "Good shot, now take down a few thousand more of those." When Amos calls in an order, the Lance Corporal confirms and quickly returns to the SUV to adjust his communications device, to change frequencies. "ANVIL Actual, this is SABER Strike, objective completed. SABER Site is down, we need immediate Evac, have wounded."

Lleufer is now prone himself, with Brina. His left arm is a bloody mess and he's weakening from that blood loss. Man's not giving up. No time for it. Lleu pats himself down for his emergency first aid kit. Most of his stuff was left in his pack, damn it. So he draws his knife and cuts a good section of his pant leg, then rips it off. A bit more and then it's free. He's only got one good hand but Lleufer forces himself to use his left hand too somehow, no matter how much it hurts his arm. Bind Brina's arm to slow or stop that bleeding if he can. The Sergeant's breathing is rough when he answers over the radio, "Under a trailer." pant, pant, "Slightly west of … southern missile launch vehicle." He hardly has enough breath to respond himself, light headed.

<FS3> Lleufer rolls First Aid: Good Success.

"Copy that Sergeant," Amos replies, eyes tracking to the mentioned launch vehicle. "Private, tell Jast to keep on the radio with Col ANVIL then grab what first aid materials you and Corporal Fischer can find from the gear and meet me by the southern launcher." Orders given he heads that way himself, digging into his gear for the small medpack he'd been given by Dr Nasreen only hours earlier. It doesn't take him long at a job to reach the pair and then he;s dropping down to his knees and applying a pressure dressing to Brina's leg wound. "Raptor is inbound," he offers, possibly slightly prematurely, but he's not expecting their request to be denied.

<FS3> Amos rolls First Aid: Failure.

"Just keep feeding me bullets," Mallas retorts to Erik. Then he hestiates, noticing the gunner's wounds. "Hey, uhhh … you're hit." Whatever else he might have said, the Captain starts giving him orders and Mallas' attention is focused on the officer. It seems he's having a hard time making out what is being said to him, but eventually he gets it and nods. "Aye aye, sir." Heading for the SUV, he calls up to Erik. "Captain wants you to stay on the wireless with ANVIL." Medical supplies are grabbed from his pack, and anywhere else he can find them, before he moves off after the officer, double-time.

OK, getting some of his breath. Maybe someone else can bind Brina's leg and treat her for shock. Lleufer pushes the demolitions satchel down and doing his best, tries to elevate her feet on top of it. Keep as much of her lowering blood preasure in her torso. And there's the Captain right on cue. All right. Maybe he can just lay there and rest. Others are showing up to help her. Lleu has nothing to bind his arm and only one hand so he doesn't bother. Just when he'd been through surgeries, so much physical therapy, to repair his forearm, now his bicep's had a bullet through it. Lovely. Somewhere along that thought his eyelids snuck up and closed. Just breathing.

And indeed, it isn't a vast amount of time before there is a familiar roar in the sky, although the Raptor is possibly slightly closer than normal before it's picked up for those still suffering from the blast noise. As soon as it lands there's a small outpouring of medical types who do a quick battlefield triage before setting to work to stablise those that need it and then carrying or herding the marines into the bird. They even pause to grab the remains of the gear from the SUV too, but only if asked very nicely.
