Killhouse
The Killhouse is a training facility located adjacent to the firing range that only allows the use of specific paint, rubber, or frangible rounds. The four exterior walls of the tall single-story structure are made from cinderblock and concrete, but the interior is a combination of sand-filled wallboard mounted on rollers with sandbags to hold them in place. The interior is entirely customizable for whatever the instructors or Marines need. Overhead is a series of catwalks for instructors and others to observe and critique what is happening down below.
14 April 2006 AWD #463

As the three pilots arrive at the Killhouse, the Marines that will be hunting them are nowhere to be seen. A First Sergeant stands outside the starting gate, holding their pistols and clips. "Sirs, your task is simple." he says as he glances out there. "Somewhere out there, is a group of Marines that are hunting for a group of pilots that have recently been shot down. You, sirs, are those poor summabitches that got shot down. You're to evade capture at all cost. If you are captured, you lose. If you are killed, you lose. If you kill all my Marines, you win. If you live to the other side of the course.." Five rounds away, "You win. Pretty simple, right?" Handing the pilots and ECO their pistols, he looks at them. "As long as one of you finishes the course, you all win."

Accepting his pistol and locking and loading, Alastair looks at the other two and grins. "Should I save you the trouble and go ahead and stick my pistol to my head?" he asks teasingly. He listened to Kelsey. Gone is the light vest of many of the pilots, he's switched it out for a heavy Marine vest with gernades for the Wild Weasel training that he's going through now. Paint gernades for this, of course. Getting the mission orders, he glances to the two women and starts into the wilderness course. "Good luck." he says quietly as he heads in.

"See you on the other side, Sergeant," Cherry says, her voice soft, but with just an edge of cocky swagger. She turns to grin at Trap. "You're going to be the heroic sacrifice, duh."

Falling in step with Cherry and Trap, Spud glances at the first sergeant then at the other two pilots then down at the newly issued pistol before she checks it over, each movement brisk and efficient. "Only one of us has to survive the course? That's not how it works. Frak the rules, kiddies, lets all survive. Otherwise we leave people behind. We don't do that, now, do we?" and moves toward the course as well.

Mallas greets the other Marines in order of familiarity to him. "Hey Fish," for Fischer. A small grimace for Randy. "Sarge." And a nod for Ward and Angelis. The Private gears up for this foray into the killhouse without much enthusiasm. "Frak … how did I draw this detail?" Probably by complaining to the wrong NCO. "At least it'll quick. Hey … you guys think we should milk this for some extra time?" More of a suggestion than a question, as Mallas is already starting to wander off into the structure alone, barring instructions to the contrary.

This might only be a training exercise, but it's treated with just as much respect as a real life mission. Gone is the laughing, playful Tabi, and in her place is a serious, getting down to business Angelis. She checks over her gear, checks over her weapon, even if it is only loaded with paintballs. It's all about habit. Her gaze scans as much of the course as she can see, while waiting for some sort of orders.

Back in the Killhouse, somewhere deep and dark and…okay, Randy's simply hanging out somewhere between the exits and about the mid-point through, behind any main Marine forces that might be lurking out there. She's got some kind of small metal panel with switches and such attached to her rig, draping down across her right hip. It looks home-made. "Bomber ready, initial ambush charges and flashes ready, over," she says on comms.

Ward has managed to stuff himself into a raptor to come down to the planet, therefore he intends to earn his proverbial paycheck with the work to be done. The last checks are being made to the LMG that and the paint rounds that accompany it and he is moving to perch himself someplace a bit more convient to his plan, which is to look out over the visage and shoot up some pilots. Into his comms, he comments, "Ward setting up for heavy fire patches, call out if you spot one."

Fischer is present with the others, once more checking his gear. Looking around as he waits for the instructions to start. "Ready," is all he says, as he listens to the others.

The first sergeant watches the pilots head into the course and glances down at his watch. After giving them a good 30 seconds to get out into the brush and on their way towards the exit, he lifts up a flare gun, and fires it. The green flare arches high into the sky and illuminates the area briefly, signalling to all that the exercise has begun. A second green flare will mean the Marines have won, a red will signal a Pilot victory.

Alastair glances at Elena and nods at what was supposed to be a joke. Instead, he takes it as a suggestion. Breaking out of his stance, he starts to stroll in a different direction than the two pilots, the ECO looking to buy the girls the time they need to get a headstart on their escape.

Cupping his hands to his mouth after drawing his pistol, he calls out, in the perfectly dolcet tones of a high Virgon born and raised.

"Ahem. Marines drool, pilots rule!"

While Trap is putting on a little show, Cherry starts moving quickly and quietly into the Killhouse, sticking close to walls where she can.

Pearson exhales a single breath, eyeing Trap as he creates a diversion, then Cherry who starts skirting and skulking around. She takes another path, not trailing Cherry and not following Trap, but forging her way forward through the course after pausing to rub dirt over any exposed skin on her hands, arms, face and neck. There isn't much on the floor to work with, but it's enough to get the point across. That's when she moves, crouching briefly, listening intently, then starts off at a brisk jog, scanning and sweeping, keeping her stride erratic and her path irregular.

<COMBAT> Alastair has been KO'd!

Mallas is not going to make this any harder on himself than it has to be. He hears Alastair yelling, that's where he goes. The grunt breaks into a jog at first, trying to close on the noise-maker quicker than might be expected, raising is rifle and slowing only when he thinks he's gotten close. He stops to listen at the corner, hears movement, and turns the corner with his weapon pointed at the noise. Selector set to full auto, he settles his sights and gently squeezes the trigger. "Flynn, hit it!" he shouts after his first burst is fired.

Randy winces as the shouting comes through the comms as she forgot to dial down the volume. Instead of adjusting it though, she replies, "A1-2 going." She flips a switch cover, arms, and then let's the paint fly. Above Alastair's head, a canister that's been spraypainted drops down seemingly out of nowhwere and explodes all over him.

Looking around as things start, Fischer keeps a careful watch on the surroundings. Was that something moving over there? Another look, and he sees Pearson. Switching his weapon to burst, he fires at the pilot, then ducks back a bit, to avoid any return fire. There's a bit of a grin on his face, though.

There's the go. Angelis heads off into the course, keeping low, eyes scanning for signs of 'enemy' movements. She hugs the walls like they're her best friend, keeping her bright blues peeled for any signs of movement, ears straining for any hint of sound. She tunes out the male voice yelling, instead focusing on other prey. She catches sight of Elena and goes in for the 'kill'. She ducks as the pilot fires off a round in her direction, sacrificing accuracy for survival. But Angelis doesn't seem to mind, she's got the quarry in her sights and she hopes to keep her there.

Ooh, an explosion. Ward can't help it, the man busts up into laughter at the sound of things, just imagining the paint filled chaos that has erupted and he shakes his head. The moment of jovial amusement brings his eyes away from where he thought he'd seen some of the pilots to find himself having to search again. "Damnit. Why can't pilots just stand still and get shot."

As he sees the muzzle flashes, Alastair barely has time to snap off the shot as the cannister bounces into view. "Oh.. frak.." it's all he manages, before the massive dayglo orange container explodes, covering the ECO nearly head to toe in orange paint. Oh, that is going to be so much fun to wash off, as he raises his head to announce that he's out and sits on the ground accordingly. He dead.

As the sound of explosions go off, paint or not, Pearson draws the pistol from her side and drops to a crouch in time to feel the first of the rounds zipping toward her impacting against the armor that she's wearing. Even in practice the slug hits with a solid punch, enough to make her twist and - in doing - avoid the next two rounds that chase the first. She aims and fires in one single, contained, movement, the aimed round hitting nothing of consequence even as she bolts again, rushing forward in a flight not fight instinct.

Cherry sees the Marine aiming at her just in time and she fires off a shot, ducking behind a low wall. She takes that moment to sprint to the next bit of cover, just a little bit closer to the exit.

Seeing Alastair get spattered by his red paint ball rounds and then literally covered in orange from Randy's 'explosion', Mallas can't help but stop to laugh. When his laughter subsides the Marine tosses an off-hand salute toward the seated ECO. "That's a good color on you, sir." Yes, he's not taking this exercise very seriously.

The pilot… she is sneaky! But maybe not sneaky enough. A fierce grin touches Angelis' face as she catches sight of her quarry again, and takes off after her. She ducks and moves quickly, bringing her rifle up, ready to fire when the opportunity presents itself. And it does. But the little pilot's gun hits Angelis' hand causing her rifle to swing wild, only managing to land a single hit on the pilot. The marine curses under her breath, releasing her rifle briefly, shaking out the 'wounded' hand, stretching fingers before regaining her hold and continuing her pursuit.

Randy immediately dials in the volume on her comms to the correct level and unsnaps her pistol so it's ready, though still holstered. Mmm, an EOD's bread and butter, one handed weaponry. She pat-pats it lightly in the holster as she hangs out in her hide-y spot. It's one of those classic jump-scare positions about half the way through and she starts to fall back more a little towards the exit.

As the first pilot ran off, Fischer looks for the second, but doesn't quite succeed. Looking around carefully still, he frowns. "Now where are you pilots…" he mutters.

"I see one. I see one!" Ward calls out over his comms as he starts to open fire but misses, being a few peppered shots. "Damnit. This one is slippery. Did the pilots cover themselves with engine grease again?"

Cherry knows that the stealth game is probably up, but she tries valiantly, firing off a shot before Angelis fies at her, splattering her torso. She ducks and runs again, crouching behind a pair of crates.

Rocking to a halt behind a bit of cover, Pearson drops to a crouch again, waiting out the next round of weapons fire, firing more or less blindly back she waits for a moment, listening intently to the rest of the weapons fire being exchanged. And the laughing. Of course there's laughing. She checks the pistol again then holsters the weapon, silently lowering to the floor so that she is moving on hands and knees, bellying through some of the areas that aren't covered with grime or what ever ELSE might be on the floor; trying to make less of a target of herself.

<COMBAT> Elena has been KO'd!

Mallas finally gets himself back on task, and after cocking his head to listen to the firing and the comms for a moment, he runs off to try and catch up to the action. Rounding a bend he finds Angelis and Fischer hot after a target. Joining the other two Marines, he spots their quarry and raises his rifle. Mallas empties his clip in Elena's direction, adding a few splats of red to the pasting she receives from the other two pursuers.

Pearson's careful bellying along the floor kicks up enough dust, just enough, that it filters down in time for her to see a trip wire so cleverly strong that she is inches away from it before she realizes what she's seeing. Freezing, only her breath stirring the dust motes and making a few more land on the wire, Pearson eases slowly back a few inches along the way she's come. Heart pounding she rubs sweat slick palms against her khakis before she exhales another breath, making the dust sift again, tracing the path of the trip wire before she delicately eases over it, listening as weapons fire rips off again. She reaches the other side of the wire, rolling to her hands and knees again once she's reached the 'safe' side of the wire and drops into a silent crouch, fingertips against the floor. She sweeps a slow look around, up over the walls of the maze then seems to gather herself again and backtracks a few feet and continues at the same slow, QUIET, pace.

Angelis spots Elena, despite the pilot trying to hide out, and opens fire. Just a short burst, trying to conserver her mag jut a little. She also has to duck behind cover as the pilot opens fire on her again. The sound of gun fire around her, and a quick peek indicate her prey has been taken out, so there's just one more to go, and immediately Angelis is on the move again, keeping her eyes peeled.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are…" Fischer mutters. And then he sees Elena there, and fires off a brst towards her. Not waiting for man moments, he starts to move again, looking for the remaining pilot. Time to cause some trouble for that one.

Cherry tries to curl up small, but she somehow fails entirely, getting spattered with pain. She swoons melodramatically, before dying theatrically.

Ward grunts as he struggles to find the creeping Pearson, abandoning his weapon action to move via foot as he starts to hunt for the advesary, getting on his comms, he calls out to the other Marines, "I'm moving to try and find an intercept and flush her out. Worse case, I'll siton her until backup comes."

"Hey, if you pin her, I'll bomb 'er," Randy says into the comms. "Bomber-1 falling back to cover the exit," she reports from her 'final' position as she hears the 'gun'fire ring out.

<COMBAT> Ward has been KO'd!

Ward finally spots his prey, crawling around on the ground and starts to run over, a grin on his face. Oh yes, he fully is intending to pounce on Pearson and pin down the target. That's of course until he starts getting shot by his associates. He stops midstride and turns, staring back at them with a 'Are you serious?' expression before he throws his hands up into the air and flops down and over like a good victim. "Soooooo lucky." He mutters in the direction of Pearson.

Spotting the final pilot, Angelis heads in her direction, opening fire on the crawling woman. Except Ward comes along and basically shields the woman, so she ends up hitting him instead. She sends a scowl in his direction, like it's /his/ fault she missed her target.

Pearson snickers out a laugh as she spots Ward . . just as his COMRADES IN ARMS light him up like a festival tree. She aims a quick flash of a broad grin at the dainty marine before he flops down and plays dead. As dead as a marine mountain gets to play and carefully backs away from Ward, and pauses, clearly considering her options. She turns abruptly and BOLTS, full speed, racing back toward the STARTING POINT of the maze instead of the end point. DEFY THE ODDS.

Randy starts to fiddle with things on her panel and then pulls out what looks like a dead-man's switch. Nothing too fancy, but a wire comes trails to the panel which must be hooked up to all those damn paint canisters that make up what appears to be a 'suicide vest.' "Communicate people," Randy says over the comms when she hears Ward sounding like he's 'out.' "Where is the target?"

Fire. And Fischer does that as he sees the final pilot, grimacing as Ward gets in the way. "Hey…" he mutters. Frowning, he starts reloading. "Now where is the target?" he asks.

Mallas finishes reloading, and hearing a spate of fire, assumes its all over. "Welp…" But then Randy's voice comes over the comms to ask about the target. "What the frak?" the Private wonders. That must be one lucky pilot. He's about to go on the hunt again when he hears footsteps running nearby. A quick look around and Mallas double back to the last junction and turns, catching sight of Pearson headed back toward the pilot's entrance point. He raises his rifle and fires a long burst at the running target, still going full auto. His red paint hits splat across Pearson's head and torso, along with several others from Angelis. Those have got to be leathal hits, so Mallas is already lowering his rifle when he realizes Pearson's gear hasn't signal her out, and she is still running. "What the FRAK?! Buuuuuullshit…"

Call it a suicidal hunch, but Randy leaves her position to sprint back towards the exit, which is all well and good, because she just barely catches sight of Pearson's boot from around the corner before she heads on retreat. Randy continues pursuit, knowing she'll be heading back through friendly fire. "Frak it," she mutters and all out sprints after Pearson nearly to the beginning of the kill house and lets her charge go… on her vest.

Fischer frowns as he works on reloading as fast as he can. "Where is she?" he calls out over the coms, frowning.

Running flat out, and getting shot AT as much as shot up, Spud evades the Kamikaze bombing run and manages not to get lost on her way back to the starting point. She bursts out of the maze and turns in time to see Randy hot on her heels, and the rest of the marine team at random intervals. The sudden explosion of paint and glitter kicks outward with a pop of sound, a few sparkles even dusting her boots. With a triumphant grin, Spud promptly executes an end-zone goal-scored dance that ends with a victory strut!

Cherry gets to her feet and attempts to perform a celebratory fouette turn. However, she slips on a smear of paint and lands on her butt. Charming.

Randy apparently didn't think this one through, because now /she's/ the one covered in paint and sticky glitter. She comes out looking like a creature from a lagoon with sparkles festooned all in her hair. Where there isn't paint, there's sparkles. Where there is paint, there's sparkles. She reaches up to wipe with her sleeve but THERE'S JUST MORE THERE TOO. "Good play!" the EOD calls out to the pilot doing her victory dance. She's all smiles and a little bit of a chuckle for Cherry's failed turn.

Mallas stands and shakes his head in disbelief. He secures his weapon and ambles over to where Pearson is doing her victory dance. Rifle held low, the grunt cocks his head to study the many hits on the pilot's arms, vest, and helmet. "That would have dropped a mother frakking Toaster in its tracks," he grouses. Then, with a fatalistc shrug, Mallas turns to rejoin the Marines. Oh well.

Dusting her face off with smudged hands, Spud grins at Randy. "I can't believe it worked," the viper pilot admits with a broad grin and tugs the helmet off. "We pilots are made of piss and vinegar and ego, no mere canner killing rounds can shatter that!"

The First Sergeant stares at Pearson. After confirming that yes, she's still alive, he loads the red flare and fires it over the battlefield to acknowledge the pilot's victory. Alastair rises from his 'grave' and blinks in the direction of Pearson and makes his way over to her before nearly tackling her in a hug. "Frak yeah!" he says, turning to wait for Cherry to join them.
