Ella Madeline
Recreation Hall - Deck 3 - Battlestar Orion
The hallways are the standardized thoroughfares found on nearly every ship in the Colonial Fleet. Tall enough to accommodate heavy equipment, their half-diamond arches rise almost twelve feet off the decking. About a quarter of the overhead bulbs are Vitamin D lamps, smoothing out the harsh edges of standard-issue fluorescent bulbs. Wired phones are posted every hundred yards and in adjoining halls as well. Heavy bulkhead doors section off the ship into different areas, and each hatch is clearly labeled no matter how large or small.
PWD #10

Ella is just coming out of the library. In her hand is a book, and she seems to be a bit perplexed by whatever's on the back cover, staring at it with a frown - and not really watching where she's going as she comes out of the hatch.

Just finishing with a workout in the gym, Madeline hums to herself as she works on busily herding and pulling all of her red hair back into it's usual bun. Much like Ella, she is distracted, so it's not on purpose when the young woman collides with the other one coming out of the hatch. "Oof! Oh my gods, I'm so sorry!" she offers, even as she spins and reaches out to grab the thing she hit to balance herself.

Ella oofs as well, her book falling to the deck with a soft thud. It's a paperback, a thriller from the bestseller's list. "Oh, crap - no, it's my fault. I wasn't watching, sorry." Bending over to retrieve the book, she asks, "You okay?"

Catching Ella, the two stand there for a moment, exchanging apologies and such and she almost bends over to get the book herself, just barely avoiding headbutting Ella. Madeline glances at the title, and ohs, "I totally love that series. The author can write a scene that just gets my hairs standing on end."

"Yeah, I like the guy's other stuff, but this one sounds a little weird…" Ella quotes a bit from the back passage, doing a mock-serious 'deep announcer voice', "'Battling an evil cult and a massive winter storm…'. Guess they can't all be winners. Still, beats staring at the bulkheads." She shrugs it off, and looks up at Madeline, finally really seeing her for the first time. There's that odd double-take of recognition that Madeline probably is well familiar with.

"At least it wasn't 'sex starved cultist cheerleaders from Virgoron..'" Madeline offers with a laugh. "And yes, that it does." She smiles warmly at Ella, and offers her hand to her. "I'm Madeline. Lance Corporal Madeline Cervantes. A pleasure to meet you, Specialist."

"I must've missed that one. Probably one of the guys snagged it already," Ella says with a chuckle. She shifts the book to her other hand so she can shake with Madeline. "Ella Martis. Just Ella is fine. Sorry, I didn't mean to stare. You just looked kinda familiar."
"Oh, it's not a book, it was a script I read one time.." Madeline doesn't explain much more than that, as she clasps the hand in her own, and her smile spreads more. "I get that alot." she admits, but she's willing to let Ella put together the pieces. The book hints her that maybe her new friend may like a mystery.

Ella might not have leapt to the conclusion right away had Madeline not mentioned the script. But that clue causes her to look at the other girl's face again, with a pointed curiosity. "Yeah, it's just you look a bit like that kid from that crime show." She's still a little hesitant, though, because really - who expects to run into TV stars in marine fatigues on a Battlestar?

Someone that doesn't recognize her as 'Snackcakes'? Ella just got upvoted some good karma. Madeline's smile turns brilliant, a flash of her white teeth offered. And then she gets a sinister glint in those blue eyes. "I killed them all, Agent Briggs. Fast Eddie, Big Hands Willie, Soapy Silus, all of those pimps… I lured them to my bed. I offered them my treats. They paid me well, and when I was done with them, and they got me off, I finished them off. And you know what? They enjoyed it. They died with a smile on their face. And now, it's your turn to die happy!" With that, she makes a motion at Ella's throat, just to pull away and giggle. "Man, I hated when they killed me off."

Ella claps her hands (a bit awkwardly, holding the book) and gives a gleeful chuckle. "I know, right? That was one of their better plotlines. I knew it was you!" she says triumphantly. If she associates her with the snackcake ads at all, it certainly gets no mention. But then she admits, "Okay, so, I really didn't - because, Gods, what are you doing here? Some kind of documentary or something?"

"I know, right. I was hoping she'd escape so I could play her again another time." Madeline laughs at that, then listens to her question. "Oh no, no documentary. It's all real. I'm a real Marine. Went through training at Yemi base, and became a JTAC. This is my first duty station." Ella may have struck a nerve, but Madeline probably fields the question more often than she can imagine.

Ella peers for a moment, as if trying to figure out if Madeline is pulling a prank, or some kind of hush-hush morale project or something. But then she concludes she's probably telling the truth, and backpedals. "Oh, hey, sorry - I didn't mean to… y'know… put my foot in my mouth so efficiently."

"It's fine, I get it a lot, Ella." Madeline seems easy about the idea of being confused for an actress. "I'm flattered, many people think my career died after my record." She locks her hands behind her back and rolls on her heels back and forth. "So, what do you do on board?" she decides to ask.

"Oh you had a record too? That's so cool. I had no idea," Ella admits. But worried that she might embarrass herself further, she sticks to the safer subject. "I'm a Corpsman. Which, actually… I'm due up in sickbay here shortly and I've got to drop this off at my rack first. But hey, it was great to meet you. Hopefully see you around - before crashing, next time." She grins easily.

Madline nods, smiling at that as she steps aside to let Ella escape. "Of course, I hope to see you again soon, too! Have a good shift, Ella." she offers, with a wave to the other girl.
