Niamh Toby
Hangar Bay - Deck 3 - Battlestar Orion
Each hangar deck is divided into five one-hundred yard sections, each divided from the others by massive blast doors that close vertically from the floor and overhead. Each hangar section houses all of the Vipers, Raptors, and Predators that the wing operates as well as the vital work areas to support and maintain these fighting platforms. Each bay is large enough to accommodate one of these frames and still get heavy work done, though the fore- and aft-most sections are dedicated to overhauls and major work to be done. The bays along the center section are located across from launch tubes and elevators in order to provide scramble and Alert-Five capabilities. The second-to-aft bay provides major elevator and transport access to the starboard bay as well as the major manufacturing facility. Above each bay and within are a trio of small red firefighting balls that will explode on too much heat being exposed. Due to the nature of the work, the hangar decks are major hubs of activity at all hours of the day and all but four hours overnight.

Just another day in the Hangar Bay. Niamh never really left, and if it wasn't for the pins on her coveralls, she could so easily just be another lowly Crewman. Her bright orange coveralls still clash with her bright red hair, covered in grease and looking somewhat haphazard in spite of her best efforts to keep things squared away. The only difference is she's actually giving some unfortunate deckie a dressing down, yelling about making sure that tools are put back in the right place and that there are rules about such things for a reason. She then assigns him the glorious task of taking inventory down in storage before turning and, seeing folks stopped in their work to watch the show, her green eyes snap, "Show's over folks, back to work!" Pause, a careful scan of staring faces, "Unless you all want to go help do inventory? There's always inventory…." That threat seems enough to shock people into movement, and Niamh gives a satisfied grunt, then looks down at the clipboard in her hand, a little surprised it's still there.

With returning crew and prep for going back into service, it's fair too say that the flight schedule has been busy. Lots of raptors in an out with people, cargo, post, you name it, they've been carrying it. The most recent to arrive was carrying people though, a mix of fresh new faces and older returning ones, all in civvies, just in case their pickup was spotted by APF. Once the hatch is open they get the lecture about staying on the marked pathways until they get to the hatch where MPs can check their IDs and log them as onboard, but if he's honest, Toby isn't actually listening. Ducking through the hatch onto the ship's wing easily enough he makes the hop down onto the deck a little slower than he used to, but then the grey around the edges of his temples gives indication enough that he's older than he used to be. As duffels with passengers gear in are passed out he grabs his own and shoulders it before starting to follow the others towards the hatch. His progress is slow though, as he spends more time looking around than actually moving forwards.

Niamh isn't really paying attention to the people arriving. So many people arriving in the last few days the faces are all just a blur anyways. Besides, she's got a lot on her plate making sure that at least, her section of the Orion is ready to roll at any given moment. Eyes on her clipboard, she absently rubs at a bruise on her cheek that's a couple days old at most… some things never change. She looks older, though not as old as she probably should and still moves with comparatively youthful alacrity. The last couple decades having been quite kind to her, apparently. And her crew are a well oiled machine, it would seem as a team converge on the recently landed Raptor, though the Chief doesn't pay attention to that outside of absently making sure they are in fact heading in that direction. For herself, Niamh heads over to another bird that appears to be getting ready to depart. Probably looking to do a final check over before handing it over to the pilots with strict instructions…

Toby makes it maybe halfway along the walkway to the hatch before he spots Niamh. His expression had been carefully measured to that point, but now it breaks into a faint smile. «Hey, Callaghan» he calls encouragingly, his voice having picked up a strong Minoan accent since they last met, «you tell'em what for.» The pilots that is, he missed the fool with the tools.

It takes a few moments for that familiar voice to penetrate Niamh's brain. She's so focused on what she's doing. But when she does… well… Forget the fact that she's now the Chief. She spins 'round so quickly that half her braid comes undone, she loses a pencil from the flaming mass, stumbles a little on her own feet, rights herself and discards the clip board. «Toby!» A brilliant smile lights up her face and if her fellow Tauran isn't careful he's going to be tackled into a hug as the rules fly out the window and Niamh hurtles toward him, closing the distance with perhaps surprising speed.

The Chief's reaction draws more than a few stares from her crew, many stopping their work to watch the redhaired woman behave like a teenager…

Toby has enough time to make a mental note to ensure that pencil is picked up by someone before the oncoming Niamh makes contact. There's a faint 'oof' on contact, but he actually doesn't seem to overly mind the hug. «Came to see if you needed a hand,» he jokes, eyeing her pips for a moment to see if she stayed or is returning, «Chief is it? Looks like you're doing just fine then, I'll be on my way…»

After releasing Toby from the hug, Niamh steps back, plants her hands on her hips and pins him with a slightly narrow-eyed glare. «Don't you dare! I /looked/ for you. You said you were going to P. You didn't go there. I /worried/ about you. You're not going anywhere!» One hand lifts from her hip and an index finger pokes him in the chest, completely ignoring his comment about being Chief. «I'm very annoyed with you, Shackleton, I plan on giving you so much work to do you won't have time to go /anywhere/.» And on that note, she's only half-messing with him as a glint of amusement softens the sharpness of her glare and her lips twitch back into a slight smile.

There's a faint hint of a grimace on Toby's face when she mentions looking for him on P, and he dips his head slightly. «I wasn't allowed,» he says after a moment, «I tried, but they wouldn't let me. Did manage to kill a few APF though, but spent most of my time on Minos.» Probably fairly predictably, and his new accent does rather give it away to those with the ear to hear it. There's a faint smile when she mentions work, «I've got to check in, get down to stores, find a bunk, eat. I'd invite you to do dinner, so we can catch up, but I doubt the food has improved enough to want to linger over it.»

If Niamh picks up on his new accent, she doesn't comment on it. In fact, given that it's Niamh, she probably doesn't really care. Her smile fades slightly when she hears about him not being allowed on Piraeus, but she doesn't comment on that, either. Shifting slightly, her still gloved fingers fiddle with her uniform, an old habit that never quite went away, obsessively checking her pockets and fastenings. «Right right… well, the food is better. We've been overhauled and recent years, the supplies have improved. Still… yes. I saved your bunk but um… you might want to air it out before sleeping there..» Her nose wrinkles and she blushes a bit, «I maaaay have had to make it not very welcoming to everyone else, but it'll be easy enough to fix… if you want it, I mean, you don't have to have that bunk, there's a few that're still vacant…» Realizing she's babbling and holding things up, Niamh reaches out and gives Toby another quick hug, «I'm so glad you're back.» She murmurs before stepping back a few feet and giving him a sharp nod, «Carry on, Shackleton». Though she can't quite repress her somewhat cheeky grin.

«We'll make time to catch up, soon….» Niamh adds quickly.

«I heard about the overhaul,» Toby notes « pilot wouldn't shut up about it on the trip up, heard the birds got one too, so I guess I'll need to brush up on my Arpay tech.» That'll be fun. He doesn't seem to object to the second hug either mind, although he comments about his rack get a slightly raised eyebrow, «you kept my bunk, for over twenty years? You're fraking nuts.» He's grinning broadly by now and returns the sharp nod with one of his own, followed by a piss-take of a salute, «got it, Chief.» And then he's jogging to catch up with the last of his group before he gets a black mark against his name with the MPs for tardiness.
