RE: Recon of Hera and surrounding moons

INCIDENT SUMMARY

On 1 March, 2005, a Raptor was flown to the gas giant Hera to conduct a survey of the space surrounding both the planet and the 29 moons. This was the final reconnaissance of the Helios-Beta system. The raptor was piloted by myself with Ensign Myles "Chopsticks" Howell as ECO and Petty Officer James Kalum as our support parajumper.

Upon arrival in orbit around Hera, we discovered the remains of an attempted evacuation of fleet of civilian fleet by two battlegroups. All involved military ships had been destroye by Cylon fire and the civilian ships had been disabled with precision strikes to communication relays. As we examined several of the ships, we discovered that there was one that retained minimal power and we discovered a human figure observing us then retreating.

I made the decision to dock with this ship and the Petty Officer, Ens. Myles, and myself boarded. Upon entering it, we discovered the remains of a fire fight, as well as signs of blood and spent casings. As we went deeper within the ship itself, we came upon a trap and a group of armed civilians being directed by Gunnery Sergeant Lez Aarkers. Upon questioning, he stated that this was the last stand of the Fleet from Virgon and that the Colonial fleet refused to leave the civilian ships which were all lacking FTL drives. He stated he had a squad of Marines and civilians for a total of fifteen people. We evacuated the four worst wounded on our ship then organized for additional raptors to return to pick up the remaining members of the group.

The Gunnery Sergeant stated that the Cylons attempted to board to take the civilians as prisoners but were thwarted. We did not have time to board and search every remaining civilian ship. I would recommend additional surveys of the battlefield area to search for additional survivors.

Please see attached reports and pictures of the fleet and civilian ship that was boarded.
