Gloria Brandon
Mess Hall - Deck 3 - Battlestar Orion
The Crew Mess on the battlestar is one of the larger rooms meant for occupation. The room is far longer than it is wide with the classic stainless steel tables that can be seen anywhere else on the ship, standard to all navy ships. Most of the chairs match, their padding on the seats worn down after several years. Towards the rear of the room is the food prep area and serving lines. During the time in between meals the Mess will serve midrats, or 'mid-shift rations', such as sandwiches and drinks. Coffee pots are left to run at all hours to keep people going as needed.
AWD #547

It's half past dinner o'clock, meaning that those who got her first are done and gone, while those with a more leisurely attitude are still trickling through. Having been in the sims for most of the afternoon, Gloria has taken the time to shower before eating, and as such is only now finding herself a spot at a relatively empty table. A spot that she soon fills with a large mug of coffee and a plate of food. Sims is hungry work it seems.

Brandon is back from, you guessed it, more time in the sims. That's down to either a lack of other pilots competing for timeslots or him being antsy to improve his skills…and truth be told, either explanation would actually fit quite well. His dinner is accompanied by a cup of coffee as he turns up at Gloria's table? "Room for one more?" he asks, in spite of the obvious glut of open seats.

"Oh please, help yourself," Gloria replies with a friendly smile, gesturing towards the seats. "I don't know what it is about the sims, but I can't eat before, only after, so I'm famished." She slurps her coffee then picks up her fork. "How do you think the session went? I mean, I reckon I was getting better by the end of it, but I don't think missiles will ever be my thing."

"Well, I think we're all getting a bit better…" Brandon offers this somewhat non-committally. "I mean…I think I did alright, but…" He sighs. "I'm still having more trouble than I should targeting bombs and missiles." Between a decidedly mediocre performance at Leonis and his nukes missing on the last day of Blue Axe…yeah, he's not thrilled about his performance and trying desperately to improve.

Gloria nods thoughtfully as she eats. "I hear you. I'm happy with my jamming work, but then it's just basic countermeasures, so I know the theory, I just need to get used to the board layout. Same with DRADIS really. But missiles? Frak me they're hard. Might manage if the raptor was on the ground, you know, not moving, but when it's being thrown about the sky? I can barely keep my breakfast down, let alone aim and fire the ruddy things."

Brandon nods in agreement. "It's one thing if you're moving /or/ they're moving. When you're both moving…" Shrug. "You just hope the sensors can lock on." Brandon hungrily shoves some food in his mouth; once that's down, he continues for a moment. "Any word how long we're going to be back in the Colonies?"

"I tell you, launching missiles from CIC was so much easier," Gloria replies once she's finished her mouthful. "We didn't really move, and neither did they, we just had to try and avoid the raider screens." At the question she can only shake her head. "Sorry, I'm well out of that loop now. I suspect a while yet though, while we have momentum and the Lines are turning to our side. Best to keep pushing our advantage."

"Sounds almost…boring, actually." Brandon munches on some more food as he muses over the idea of being behind a desk dealing with this. "Yeah, I…not gonna disagree here." Given what happened at Twin Rocks, it isn't likely that they'll get another shot to take serious ground from the Honorable Legion of Toasters anytime soon. "You never know what's going to come through the grapevine."

"Oh I wouldn't call it boring," Gloria replies with a flash of a grin, "it's a different type of atmosphere though. There's all the tension, and slow inexorable build. If you want sheer adrenalin, then I'd have to say the Wing is the place for it, but CIC has the suspense, and the strategic plan. It was fascinating to watch sometimes." She doesn't disagree about the rest though and nods before taking another drink. "If I hear anything I'll let you know, just promise me the same right?"

"Oh, of course…though I get a feeling we'll somehow all manage to find out /after/ whatever is supposed to happen does." Brandon offers this with a roll of the eyes…you always seem to get vital information /after/ it would be most useful.
