Killhouse - Piraeus
The Killhouse is a training facility located adjacent to the firing range that only allows the use of specific paint, rubber, or frangible rounds. The four exterior walls of the tall single-story structure are made from cinderblock and concrete, but the interior is a combination of sand-filled wallboard mounted on rollers with sandbags to hold them in place. The interior is entirely customizable for whatever the instructors or Marines need. Overhead is a series of catwalks for instructors and others to observe and critique what is happening down below.
AWD #434

With the influx of new marines from the ranks of the Minoans, and the ongoing investigations, it's fair to say that Amos has been busy of late. Today though it seems that his attention is on training for he has a small number of his marines gathered outside the Killhouse, tooled up with guns and rubberbullets and ready to run the 3rd's newest officer through his first exercise in command of a squad.

Leightner is in his heady bodyarmor, full weapon loadout P90, and Picon 5-7 loaded with paint bullets and his medkit. Yes it's a REAL medkit. No he's not going to whack up uninjured Marines with Morpha. It's not that kind of party.

All kitted up, Fischer steps in now, looking around for a few moments before he offers a nod to Leightner and then a salute to Amos. Keeping silent for the moment, as he looks at the people present, now.

Rubber bullets.. Loaded up with her rifle and her armor, Kaya stands near Leightner. Suited and booted as they say. She's waiting for instructions on what sort of drill or training they are going to have.

Neko has gathered for training. Presently she's chatting with one of the new recruits. About her Pyramid stats, predictably. She is nothing if not always willing to recount tales of her own awesomeness. She's in the middle of regaling a Tauran woman of about eighteen with an exaggerate version of a Hades Vice play-off game.

The big guy makes his way into the area. He was dressed in the training tactical gear assigned for this day as well as the weapons he needed. He makes his way over towards the group now, offering a nod to each here. Dray takes a glance around the area while looking at those here, making sure they all have the correct gear for this. He wanted no accidents this day. He moves a hand to knock on his helmet.

Amos check his list, checks those who've turned up, then tucks the clipboard under his arm, apparently satisfied. He also checks to enure everyone has the correct safety equipment before kick off then turns to address Dray. "Ensign, I know you've met our Corpsman over here but feel free to take a moment to introduce yourself to your squad and check on specalisms and such." Then, to everyone, "when you're ready you may enter. For the purposes of today's exercise you were all in the sec hub onboard when reports of another explosion came in. A small one, and just down the corridor meaning you are the first responders. You'll need to get in there, assess the situation, and then proceed as you see bet fit." A pause to glance along the line of them, "any questions?"

Leightner listens to Amos setting out the flow of the procedure, and nods slightly, standing ready. He's considering the scenerio thoughtfully.

Neko stops talking about her glory days to pay attention to Amos. She shakes her head and gives him a "No, sir." No questions from her. She shoulders her rifle, sporing it today rather than the heavier guns she usually carries in the field. Responding to an on-board emergency with a machine gun might be over-kill.

Fischer shakes his head at the part about the questions, then turn to look at Dray, studying the man for a few moments now. Otherwise staying silent at the moment, it would seem.

Dray shakes his head softly as he did not have any questions. He shifts his rifle to the other side of his shoulder and begins with Lieghtner. He walks over towards the man, looking him over, gear wise. There comes an approving nod. He shifts along to the next person, Neko. He liked the name. He looks over her gear, checking it as well, and her figure, but not letting that be known. Next he shifts over to Fischer, letting his eyes inspect the mans gear and then nods. He then turns towards Kaya, letting his eyes linger there a moment before he looks over her gear as well. There was a pause there with her then he looks back to Amos, "All Marines are combat ready! We're good here Sir!"

"No questions from me, Sir." Kaya offers, standing at ease while the orders are being given. She hooks her thumb in the strap of her rifle and remains silent other than those words of confirmation.

Amos nods his approval once the checks are all complete then says clearly. "Very well then, I will see you inside," before turning and making his way into the killhouse and up the steps that lead to the observation gantries. Clipboard, pen and an unobstructed view. What more could an S3 want.

Once the marines enter they find a mock up of, predictably, a section of battlestar hallway that proceeds down the lenth of the building and terminates at the far wall with a crudely drawn extention to give the visual impression that it continues onwards. Who ever drew it though, was no artist, but it serves it's purpose. There are doors leading off the left hand side though, 3 of them, and from the middle one there is drifting a dark smoke.

Leightner moves into the killhouse and immediately lifts his weapon sights playing about the area, forming into the group but not advancing. He looks to the officer in Charge.

Fischer steps in with the others, staying back a little bit as he waits for Dray's orders now. The officer's show, after all.

Neko looks over Dray as he looks over her, cracking a slightly crooked smile at the officer. She doesn't spend too much time checking him out, though, heading in to get the exercise underway. She gets her rifle at the ready, clicking the safety 'off' so she's prepared to pelt things with rubber faux-death.

Kaya walks inside exuding confidence, her boots barely making any sound at all as she follows Leightner and the others in. Once inside, she draws her own rifle and ensures the safety is off as well.

Dray brings his rifle to bear. He had gone over the roster before entering, noting people and their specs, experience. He enters into the killhouse and the begins to give orders out. "Corporal Kent, Private Soun, front lines. I want a two by two formation as we march, full sweeps. I want no suprises. We clear a room then advance. No assumptions. Fischer, mid row, Myself and Leightner to the rear. We're being watched this day people so bring your A game." He says and slaps the ass end of his ammo clip, "Let's proceed. Let's remember your training here. If anyone dies, first rounds on you!"

Leightner lifts his rifle moving back to the rear of the formation with Dray, looking about, and covering the corners as they pass, as they move, he looks in angles of fire for anyone hiding in the corners waiting to just open up on the entire group with their back turned. If he finds any, he will shoot them because they are a dirty dirty corner rapist and are going to eat fake ammo rather than grease the entire squad with one shot.
Leightner has had bad experiences during training regarding people hiding in corners.

Fischer moves into position now, expression very thoughtful for a few moments, before taking a breath. Aiming his rifle at his surroundings, he stays quiet at present, just looking around carefully.

<FS3> Kaya rolls Alertness: Great Success.
<FS3> Neko rolls Alertness: Great Success.

Neko nods short and gives a quick "Aye, sir" to Dray, taking point. "Two by two, Kent. I'm with you, girl." And so she is. She proceeds to that first door, going in with the nose of her rifle ahead of her and giving it a look-see. "Look clear in this one," she calls back to the team. "No movement in here. Just a bunch of office supplies." She peers back over her shoulder, toward the next door with that drifting smoke.

As ordered, Kaya falls in, creating a front row, crouching slightly in a defensive stance. When Neko joins up, she nods slightly and follows to the first door, looking inside and nodding in agreement. Office supplies. Nothing, no movement. She lets Neko be the mouthpiece while she is already looking around towards the next door.

Through lowered voice but giving orders through the mic, Dray continues, "Good job team." He was with Leightner, sweeping the rear and watching corners as well. When Neko and Kaya check the first room, he gives the next order, "Fischer, cover that mid door, I want eyes and ears on that third door before we move into the middle. I don't need any Cylons crawling up my ass this day. They cause rashes and if anyone cause me to have a rash, it's laundry duty for a week. Leightner, what you got?" He ask the man only due to him looking forward down the hall at the three doors. "Once we clear that last room, move into the middle room, secure it, find out what happened. Move it marines."

<FS3> Fischer rolls Alertness: Failure.
<FS3> Leightner rolls Alertness: Good Success.
<FS3> Kaya rolls Alertness: Good Success.
<FS3> Neko rolls Alertness: Great Success.
<FS3> Dray rolls Alertness: Great Success.

Leightner moves, walking sideways, and backward slowly with the group. His head always moving, always looking for enemy movement, or any movement, the only real direction he's not looking is where everyone else is. Covering multiple angles, "No contact, no Tango." He says simply to the question.

Nodding a bit as he moves to cover that door. "Nothing of interest there, sir." Fischer's voice comes very quietly, as he keeps his attention on that door still now.

Neko approaches the third door, ducking her chin to Kaya when the other woman covers her, and shoulders inside to proceed in clearing it. She takes a look around, but there's no sign of firing from her gun. "This one's the same as the first. Storage, quiet, no sign of movement."

Her steps are slow, quiet, as Neko and Kaya approach the door. Kaya offers cover for the taller woman, rifle lifted and at the ready, prepared to fire if the situation deems it necessary. When nothing but more office supplies are seen, she turns back around, as before remaining quiet.

After his team has secured the first and third door so that nothing can pop up and surprise them, he gives a nod then speaks again through the mic so that he does not have to yell to give orders and alert enemies to their presence, "Good job team. By the books, that's how we do it." He turns around to face the rear while slowly back peddling while moving along with Lieghtner, "Let's pop that middle door open, as soon as it comes open, Soun, to the left, Kent to the right, Fischer cover the mid. We'll cover your backs and will move in behind you. Move out! Let's show the brass what we got!"

Leightner nods as he sets up in the hall, to cover angles of approach. Yes, this means he's pointing his weapon at a drawing of a hall, but he's taking it seriously as the front prepares to breach.

Hearing the order through her earpiece, Kaya takes the right side, leaning against the wall briefly before positioning herself to cover her teammate when the door is opened.

Muttering something under his breath, Fischer makes sure whatever he's saying is kept for his own ears only as he moves to get that door open now. With the resulting explosion as the paint bomb goes off, covering him in the entire rainbow now. Muttering a little as he stumbles backwards, but staying on his feet for now.

<FS3> Leightner rolls Alertness: Great Success.
<FS3> Dray rolls Alertness: Success.
<FS3> Neko rolls Alertness: Good Success.
<FS3> Kaya rolls Demolitions: Good Success.

Leightner crouches low as the bomb goes off, looking back and then snapping his attention back, "IED on pressure release." His lips tighten, and looks ready for an attack from the rear, while looking at Fish ooo nasssty amount of paint.

Neko lets out a "What the frak?" as something splashes on her, from whatever got Fischer full. She steps back, wiping a gloved finger over where it got onto the sleeve of her body armor. "Paint." She looks over at Leightner with a nod. "Yeah, it's a pretty classic booby-trap. Saw them a lot on Picon. You dead, Fishy?" It's a joke, kind of.

When once person fails, they all fail. Dray was not pleased with what just happened. He looks to Leightner, "Medic, get our wounded out of their. "Soun, Kent, sweep that door and make sure there are no more surprises! No time for fun and games, take it like a real bomb people. Let's go, we're still onthe clock here!" He says giving out the orders before stepping up to take up Fischers spot in the formation while he lets Leighter do his thing. It may be a mock battle with paintball traps but Dray is not taken it lightly, "I want to know if he can continue or if he's out."

"Couldn't you have told that before?" Fischer remarks to Leightner, before he reaches up to wipe away some of the paint from his face. Otherwise keeping silent for the moment, and not moving further into the happenings for now.

Splattered with only a few marginal dots of paint, Kaya shakes her head. It was obvious from what the Corpsman said what had happened. Checking it anyway, she nods to what Neko says, not really able to add more than, "Set by someone with no small amount of skill.." She cautiously moves forward, looking for trip wires or other such traps as she leads further in.

<COMBAT> Leightner treats Fischer:

< Right_Foot (Critical): successful

< Left_Arm (Critical): successful
< Left_Foot (Moderate): successful
< Right_Foot (Critical): unsuccessful

Leightner ducks down and grabs Fish, "Thought you knew." He pulls Fish over and begins scraping the paint off him, working as much as he would in the field. "Alright you're pretty much with me from now on, Fish." He says, "I'll need to keep an eye on you at the least, that should have killed you. Very lucky."

<FS3> Neko rolls Alertness: Good Success.
<FS3> Kaya rolls Alertness: Failure.
<FS3> Dray rolls Alertness: Great Success.

Neko takes a moment to check for more traps beyond that door. Going as carefully as she can. "Looks clear of more 'bombs' at the front," she says, heading in, though still with a measure of caution.

So much paint splattered, Kaya can't make out anything more than… paint. "Can you make out anything?" The question is directed to Neko. After hearing the response, she follows in further now, staying right near Neko.

Dray was sweeping in just behind Kaya and Neko now and notices so far there was no more traps as far as he can tell. He keeps his eyes forward, "Talk to me people, what do you see." His rifle was up as he takes in the sight of the room, ready to shoot an enemy should their be one. "The bomb was placed from the inside, watch for movement, we're most likely not alone. Let's keep it tight like a first virgin." He replies softly through the mic.

"Told you.. Not allowed to die yet," Fischer remarks to Leightner, waiting for now as the man works his magic. A brief grimace as well, and his expression looks a bit distant. "I hate explosives…" Spoken very quietly.

Inside the room, once the mess of the enterance way is cleared, the room is revealed to be yet another store room containing shelves full of boxes. It's bigger than a cupboard, and there's a reasonable amount of room for the to head in, although it's definitely single file between the shelves. The first couple of rows seem clear but the smoke is still just about drifting from further along and once that row is investigated it can be seen that there is a dummy (of the kind used in 'rescue casualty from burning building scenaries) on the floor at the far end, covered in paint. As is a sort of mock-up workbench 'infront' of it with various dodgy looking items on it. The smoke appeas to be coming from a near exhausted cannister set next to the dummy.

Leightner keeps working on Fish because he would. "Yeah? They like you." He nods, "Alrigh, likely ta get called in thar, so Ye sit here, an prop up yer gun an shoot anythin needs shootin, aye? I ain't gonna be able ta give ye moren at."

"What the…?" Neko stops, to aim her rifle at the smoking cannister. She seems at a loss for what else to do. A quick look back at Dray.

Oh boy.. When they come upon the dummy, Neko leading with Kaya behind, she sees the smoke and sniffs the air lightly, shaking her head, looking suspicious. "This doesn't look good.."

There was a pause as he took in the information, "Demo, check that body for traps, once clear, Leightner, move in to see if he or she's alive." He's talking to the demo person who ever that may be. "Let's sweep this room, I want it sweep for any more traps, check vents, grates, boxes, between items on the shelfs. No mistakes people. We already had one casualty who's buying the first round of drinks, lets not have a second to buy the second round!" He declares with his gun drawn, "Who ever is not wounded or checking that body, with me…" He begins to slowly walk through the outside edge of the room, heading down between the row of shelfs. Dray was alert!

<FS3> Dray rolls Alertness: Success.
<FS3> Kaya rolls Demolitions: Success.

Kaya lifts a hand, "Whoa.. looks like the dummy was working on something and it exploded in his face.. there's detonators, c4.. well what's meant to be c4, grenades." Looking around, she shakes her head. "Ah.. this spells bomb to me, but I leave the call to you, Sir."

Leightner nods as he looks at Fish, "See?" And he's moving into the room bringing up his weapon and moving into the room, slowing as Kent sounds a warning, hanging back till it's clear.

Fischer grimaces as he listens again, remaining where he is for a while longer, before he moves himself a little closer to the door, to get into a position where he could cover the others at least. Quiet for now, as he remains out there, weapon ready.

"Whoa, bomb." That's Neko's contribution, when Kaya speaks up. She seems to believe it, after the paint-splatter that hit poor Leightner. She commences sweeping for more conventional threats, for her part. Opponents hiding in the shadows and behind crates, that sort of thing.

<FS3> Neko rolls Alertness: Good Success.
<FS3> Fischer rolls Alertness: Good Success.

Everytime he came to a new row of shelves, Dray would point his gun down along each of the rows. He speaks into the mic, "Clear so far." Once he makes a walk around, he returns to the dummy and motions to Soun, "Check under that plastic, no surprises. Anything could be a decoy." He states and turns his rifle there. "Leightner, is that dummy a confirmed kill? I don't need a corpse coming back to drop a nade at my feet with it's last breath." He says as he covers Neko incase there is something hidden. Maybe he's being a little paranoid but he's not taken any chances right now. "Kent, good job on the bomb parts. Make sure none are still active then we'll call in the cleaners."

Kaya nods back to Dray. Her own boots bring her nearer, but only marginally so, moving to do as ordered. As soon as she checks over the c4, she stumbles backwards, eyes round, a chocking sound given. "Back up, back up!" The words almost screeched out in wild alarm. "GET BACK!" Looking frightened at something she had seen, genuinely scared of something. "I'm not touching it." Suddenly she finds herself near Dray and she's shaking, trembling so bad.. "Don't make me go near it.. please," she begs.

"Starting to look like we're all alone here. Except for the dummy and all his explosives," Neko says, as her rifle peeks around the corner to find it clear of any intruders. Kaya's words startle her, and make her back up, up, up hastily. "Kent, what the frak?" She holds her gun up, in search of something to shoot.

Leightner moves in to check the body, once it's confirmed that the thing isn't rigged, and begins checking the 'corpse', He looks at the paint and thumps the polystyrite limb. "Dead," He reaches out and marks an 'X' on the chest in the paint. Dogtags pulled. He looks up to Kent, bringing up his rifle and moving back at the call to do so., looking where what spooked her is.

Fischer remains where he is for now, since he doesn't see all that happens inside from the corridor. Where it's entirely quiet now. "What's happening?" he calls out now, as he works his way back to his feet.

Dray feels the bump against him as Kaya steps back into him. He sweeps his gun down to point at the body as if it was about to come to life suddenly, "Kent, talk to me, what's wrong marine. Details save lives. Can't do my job on that information." He says to her without looking but steping infront of her just the same, eyes trained on the body and the parts around it. He did not recall any of the marines in here failing a Psych eval. "Leightner, fall back to Fischer incase. You're our medic, I want you out of arms way. Soun, cover that body like white on rice." He finally looks down to Kaya.

Kaya is panicked now and gasping for air, a hand to her chest, her weapon held uselessly in her other hand. Eyes are still round and she's still backing away, almost hyperventilating. No, there's no words coming from her, she's beyond scared and able to talk.
Long distance to Kaya: Amos doodles a mini-oscar next to his notes about Kaya's performance in the exercise so far

Leightner continues backing out, visible to Fish as he moves back, covering the body, eyes on the room in a wide angle cone of fire as he withdraws as ordered. He's silent, listening to what's happening around him, concentrating on his smooth movements as he moves back.

Neko rolls her eyes at Kaya, though she isn't heartless enough to snark beyond that. "Gotcha, sir," she says to Dray, going over to stand by the dummy. She does her best to look intimidating, even if only the mannequin can be impressed by it at the moment.

Looking inside as much as he can, Fischer frowns as he sees Kaya's reaction. A brief pause, before he calls out. "Hey… Kent… Over here…" Trying to get through enough to get her to move out into the corridor, at least.

Going by the current situtation and the fact that his only other demo personal has spasmed out, he offers a nod, "Alright team, we're falling back and scrubbing the mission. Our two demo personal are currently out and we no longer have the tools for it. Rooms clear. Call in a bomb team disposal unit to clean up what's left. Let's had back out with out wounded and incaps." He begins to back petal out of the room, covering Souns back so she can retreat as well till they get to the hall. "We still clear in that hall Fischer, assuming you haven't bled out yet." He was in full commander mode right now. Now was the time for a tactical retreat.

As the order to pull back is given, there's movement from above as the silent observers head back along the gantry. There's the faint rustling of paper as notes are compared but then one set of boots desceneds the stairs and from the end of the corridor Amos appears, still decked out in his protective gear and with a lovely white stripe round his helmet to indicate he's an instructor.

Leightner moves back to Fish, checking him over, looking around as Amos comes out behind his back like the Officer of the Corn. Leightner is the next victim. unaware of the Brass looming behind him. ohnoes!

"Corridor's clear," Fischer remarks, waiting for a few moments longer to hear what's happening inside before he looks down the corridor, spotting Amos. "Sir," he offers, a bit quietly now.

Of course Kaya wasn't aware of the approach of the instructor… she was busy panicking. As she hears Fischer, she looks at him as if only just realizing he was there.. and she almost collapses against him, still shaking almost uncontrollably. Until she hears him talking to Amos.. Suddenly, she straightens and the shaking stops, and she offers a salute to him. "Sir."

Dray turns to see Amos coming as he just steps into the hall. He brings his rifle to now rest on his shoulder, "Simulation over. Instructor on deck, stow your gear people." He turns to face him and he awaits the bad news. Being down one team member was exceptable losses on paper but being down two is utterly bad. He looks back over to Kaya, "Corporal Kent, front and center." He says and motions her over towards the hallway and into the open.

Neko straightens up to something resembling attention when Amos enters the picture. He gets an "Aye, sir" and she goes off to return her practice ammo and see to the rest of her gear. Kaya gets a look that's almost sympathetic as she goes. Almost.

"My compliments Corporal," Amos replies to Kaya with a short nod of his head, "that was spot on." Offering no further explaination to that he looks to his clipboard briefly while the others get themselves sorted then turns back to them. "All right then, a mostly pleasing result," his eyes start to slide briefly towards Fischer but he stops himself quickly, "and I've certainly seen worse on first run throughs. Unless anyone has any specific questions for now we'll debrief back onboard once you've all had a chance to clean up."

Leightner is warned before something horrible happened to him in the grasping claws of brass. He straightens and brings his weapon to a slung ready stance. He looks at Amos, and smirks lightly looking at Kaya, before looking back to a neutral position.

At the order, Kaya reports front and center to Dray, standing at attention. "Yes Sir." Her smile hitches up a little at the words from Amos, before she salutes him then drops it to stand at ease.

Dray offers a respectful nod to Amos as he turns his attention back to Kaya, "You did well as the XO said but when in a combat situtation, details are important. Knowing is half the battle. If there is something going on, an important fact, we need to know. It will saves lives, save your own. Soilders can get scared but you have to control it or you let the enermy win." He says to her as she stands before him. "Next time, tell us why you wish not to go near something and alert us to the dangers of it as well. Dismissed." He says before moving from her and nodding to amos, "We'll see you on board sir."

At the dressing down, Kaya listens, her expression neutral, not arguing back, not offering anything for defense. Once he concludes the public reprimand, she nods again. "Understood, Sir." When she is dismissed, she moves to stand with the remainder of the group.

Amos watches the intra-squad interaction for a moment, then, as Kaya is dismissed he slips his clipboard under one arm and states to Dray, "you are of course correct in that Ensign. However, on this occasion, the Corporal was merely acting as I had briefed her to earlier." Turns out having an actor suddenly appear in your midst can be really useful sometimes. With everything else seemingly sorted he eyes Fischer for a fraction of a second before offering finally to the group. "All right then. 1800 hours in the security hub. Dismissed."

Leightner lifts the salute at the dismissal from the Captain and lowers it, looking to Fish and his paint, then at his own since he was working on him. "Yeeeah showers." He says moving off.

Fischer looks a bit unsure of what to say, if anything, ending up just muttering something under his breath again now. Slowly starting to make his way off not long after Leightner does, he shakes his head a little, mostly to himself.

Dray blinks a moment and should have seen that coming. Kaya was the wrench in the plans and used her acting skills to the advantage of the mission. It was a good plan and he admired the it. He adds this information to him. It was a good thing his information to Kaya can still be used for the sake of everyone, "Aye sir." He offers a quick salute and then turns. He looks over to Kaya and moment, "Clever." There was a brief smile as if he was showing her that he did well. He then turns to head back towards the ship.
