"Perhaps in the world’s destruction it would be possible at last to see how it was made. Oceans, mountains. The ponderous counterspectacle of things ceasing to be. The sweeping waste, hydroptic and coldly secular. The silence."
— Cormac McCarthy, The Road

Background

The adage 'diamonds are a girl's best friend' has perhaps never been more accurate than when describing Dr. Fionnula Taylor. A dedicated scientist in a field traditionally lacking glamor or fame, Fionnula has nonetheless risen from humble beginnings to become a leading authority in the field of mineralogy. Born and raised on Leonis, the woman has come to be an almost stereotypical reflection of a planet with no real seasons to speak of, predictable and stable. Educated first at Nemean Univeristy on Leonis, she has spent the better portion of the last decade on Caprica, studying and teaching at Caprica University. Noted for her contributions to the fields of geology and mineralogy, and affiliated with the Caprican Institute for Deep Space Research, Dr. Taylor was specifically and aggressively recruited by members of the Colonial navy to participate in a three-year mining and exploration program in deep space.

but plant your hope with good seeds
don't cover yourself with thistle and weeds
rain down, rain down on me
look over your hills and be still
the sky above us shoots to kill
rain down, rain down on me
