An Asteroid Belt — A Galaxy Far, Far Away
Rocks and stuff.
Sun Feb 03

There is a flash of light and then the Light Cruiser Cygnes appears suddenly in the Helios Alpha System. The sleek and beautifuly built cruiser drifts for just a moment after the jump, and then her engines flare to life — burning a pale blue. Before her lies the rocky expanse of the Erebos Asteroid Belt in all its dangerous and chaotic glory, and behind her lies the twin planets of Caprica and Gemenon. On both planets fires are still burning, but out here they only appear as pale blue stars next to the distant sun. From here you would never know anything was wrong.

The orders come odwn from the Cygnes CO to launch, and a pair of Raptors and several vipers are soon given the clearance to take off. There Raptor's mission today is to scout an old tylium mining facility in the asteroid field, and the Viper's mission is to insure that the Raptor's don't run into any trouble.

Normally, Zachary would be the lead on a mission like this. But today, the CAG has decided to take a back seat to the mission command from Cygnes. He'll jump in if the soup gets sloppy and he needs to guide the air wing, but for now, he's settled in his Raptor, assuming that Milkshake is once again his ECO for the trip.

Holtz, the Strikes' squadron leader pro tem, is also heading up the Viper escort contingent, such as it is. Without a proper landing bay on the small cruiser, the pair of escort Vipers are instead magnetically grappled to the cruiser's deck, and Storm has to resist the urge not to launch by hammering down on the throttle as he would to catapult himself from a battlestar's launch tube. Instead, he disengages the grapples and gently eases his fighter off the deck.

Phin flits into the blackness of space in a Viper, forming up on Holtz's wing. His eyes are drawn toward the distant spheres of Caprica and Gemenon. He can't help but look, much as he might've tried. "Almost pretty from here…" he mutters to himself.

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Flight, Cygnes, Storm is away."

[Into the Wireless] Zachary says, "Flight, Orion Six-Two. Babysitter is in position. Storm, it's your flight tonight. Cygnes Command, I will be on standby as needed."

Present in his Raptor, Jason is looking a bit thoughtful for the moment, checking over the systems once more, before he readies for takeoff. Looking back to see how whatever ECO he's got with him today is doing, he offers a bit of a smile, before he brings the Raptor out with the others now.

[Into the Wireless] Kalum says, "Raptor Flight & Escorts, Cygnes Actual: We need you to get to the Tylium Mine, and scout out the following locations the Personnel Facility, Control Facility, and the Mine itself. Do not attempt to land or pick up survivors. Just scout the area and report back. We will return for them. Good hunting out there. Over."

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Copy that, Six-Two; understood, Actual, wilco. Alright, Dolls, let's bring it in and form on the Raptor… keep it tight and eyes wide."

Ygraine is sitting at the ECO station in Pie's raptor. "So what are we doing today? A park and ride?" she asks, reclining in her seat.

[Into the Wireless] Phin says, "Flight, Cygnes, Dolly. Copy that. Storm, tight and wide. Think I can manage that. Coming up on Stand-by's bus."

Zachary leans back a little, watching his DRADIS. "Think of it more seeing how Storm handles his first field mission." he points out to Ygraine. "So, how was the cakes? I thought I'd save my best recipe for last." he says casually as he watches the Vipers disengage from the Cygnes and head off to scout. "I will say this, if we come across survivors in distress, we will pick them up. Roger that?"

[Into the Wireless] Jason says, "Copy that, Cygnes Actual. Just a sight seeing for now. Storm, Dolly, nice to have you guys watching my back again."

Holtz takes the lead position in the little caravan of ships, positioning himself in front of and slightly above Jason's Raptor. He slowly increases speed, keeping to a pace the Raptor can manage while not wasting any time. His silvery Viper weaves around various floating pieces of rock as the ships make their way towards the big asteroid holding the tylium facility.

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "All part of the service, Stand-up. Keep on my six and I'll lead you through."

"Oh, he'll be fine." Ygraine is casually confident of Storm's ability to lead his squadron. "And that sounds like a plan."

Phin veers so he's effectively below and slightly behind Jason's Raptor in a position opposite Holtz's. Trying to keep the craft flanked, while keeping enough distance so the Raptor doesn't have to worry about moving over him. While bobbing and slipping around the bits of asteroid floating around them. He tries to keep his attention on the space field in front of him, eyes occasionally angling over to check his instrument read-outs.

The first thing the pilots notice as they move towards the asteroid is something that almost sounds like rain on the windows of their cockpits. Billions of years of asteroids coliding with each other, and then a milenium of mining operations have left a halo of asteroid dust around the belt. Most of the small rocks and pebbles bounce harmlessly off the armored ships. A few larger rocks might clunk loudly off the hall, but they pose no real danger.

Jason moves his Raptor along with the Vipers now, moving it carefully around. Looking up at the sound that resembles rain, he shakes his head a little bit to himself. "Quite nice," he mutters, under his breath.

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Flight, Storm. Keep your eyes peeled; we're just hitting small junk for now, but I'd hate to see a wreck on somethin' we could've avoided, yeah?"

As Zachary falls in to the rear of the group, he comments, "Well, it is good you have that faith in him, Milkshake." he says with a little chuckle as he guides the Raptor rather easily in the wreckage, occassionally using the wipers for operations in the rain to clear the dust from the windows.

Ygraine pffts. "If you didn't have faith in him he wouldn't be temp squadron leader." Yggy points out matter of factly. She starts keeping an eye on DRADIS too, but she's more keeping her eye out for unexpected and unwelcome guests.

[Into the Wireless] Phin says, "Storm, Dolly. Gotcha. I'll try not to dent the windshield."

[Into the Wireless] Jason says, "Storm, Stand-up. Will be careful."

Holtz continues to bob and weave his way through the flotsam and jetsam of the asteroid field; his DRADIS is slightly hampered by ambient interference from the rocks, though, so for the most part he's relying on his eyes to keep watch over the flight as they progress towards the mine.

It doesn't take long for those little rocks to become much larger rocks. Soon there are Raptor and Viper sized chunks of igneous and metamorphic rock tumbling about in all directions. Some rocks drift lazily, spinning slowly in some wierd eternal dance, but others set of collisions warnings in the Colonial ships flight computers — demanding that they take action to avoid being struck.

<FS3> Holtz rolls Piloting: Failure.

<FS3> Phin rolls Piloting: Failure.

<FS3> Zachary rolls Piloting: Great Success.

<FS3> Jason rolls Piloting: Good Success

This time, Holtz' vigilance backfires on him. He's craned his neck and is thus looking in the wrong direction when suddenly his collision alarm sounds; his head darts forward and he jams on the stick to avoid contact with the larger rock that seemingly came out of nowhere, but he's not completely successful. The Viper jerks as the asteroid strikes a glancing blow on the silvery frame.

His displays flicker momentarily under the force of the impact, and he curses softly, but his controls at least seem to be unaffected. The man's pulse pounds in his ear, but after a few seconds begins to subside. The sudden flash of embarrassment, however, doesn't.

Phin continues to bob and weave, but there's a lot of stuff bouncing around out there. Including an asteroid that he can't quite steer clear of in time as he tries to stick with the Raptor. He grazes the side of the thing with his hull as it bangs past him, which'll leave a fine dent for the deckies to deal with later. Wince. He makes some hasty corrections, getting away from it without any further damage.

"Rocks ahead, folks." Zachary says, but he's way in the back - so hey, Phin and Holtz get the rocks fall everyone dies bit. "Keep an eye on the flock, Milkshake. They get too hard, get ready to pick them up."

Keeping his Raptor safely away from the asteroids, Jason shakes his head a little at the rocks that hit the Vipers. "That'll scratch the paint," he remarks, a bit quietly for now.

[Into the Wireless] Phin says, "Flight, Dolly. One of those rocks glanced off my port side. Might've banged the cannon on that end around a little, too, but everything's still attached. Flight controls are OK." Pause. "Yeah, probably scratched the paint."

[Into the Wireless] Zachary says, "Make sure you report the damages to chief of the deck. They don't need surprises."

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Storm here, same. Got knocked around a little bit, but I'm lookin' operational. I'll keep a tally runnin'."

<FS3> Ygraine rolls Ecm: Good Success.

"Will do, Boss." Ygraine starts eyeing her sensor suite with even more, if possible, attention to the DRADIS. Actually, after a moment, she makes an adjustment, and toggles her com.

[Into the Wireless] Ygraine says, "This is Milkshake. I've adjusted sensor readings to be able to alert you sticks to any bogeys that might do a bit more than scuff your paint. So try to keep an ear open if I pipe up, boys."

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Dolly, Storm. New plan. Eyes front, let the Raptors keep a watch out. I don't want one of these frakkin' rocks turning me into a smear."

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Copy that, Shakes. Good lookin' out."

[Into the Wireless] Phin says, "Milkshake, Dolly. Thanks for the assist. This is like flying in a dust storm. Ears open."

Zachary gives a satisified smile and flashes a thumbs up back to Milkshake, as he handles making sure that their own Raptor stays out of trouble. "Before we leave, Milkshake, fire up the DRADOME. I want to take the big picture of the area."

<FS3> Phin rolls Piloting+2: Success.

Soon the asteroids grow larger and much more easy to see. They slowly tumble by the cockpits of the Colonial Flight. Some are as large as the Orion, and a few others while smaller could still be labeled as planet killers. The smaller debris still tumbles around as well, and the Colonial's flight computers are working over time. Collision alarms blare loudly and are an almost constant at this point. Still, even as the danger increases the flight nears their objective. Ahead a chunk of rock as large as small moon looms, the asteroid known as (4) Vesta and the home of the Atlas Mining Corp. Fiscerne Mine #4. Even from a distance it is easy to see something isn't right. Large chunks of metalic debris are floating all around the moon.

Phin spends 1 luck points on Avoid crashing!.

Holtz spends 1 luck points on Not getting 'roid-smashed.

[Into the Wireless] Ygraine begins a running count of telling them what to avoid. It almost becomes a rhythmic patter, until suddenly her voice becomes louder, sharper, "Dolly, inbound on four! Storm, inbound on eleven, move move move!"

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Flight, Storm. Got Vesta on visual — ah, FRAK!"

Zachary does pay attention to the DRADIS mistress sitting behind him, but at the moment he's paying attention to the station they're coming up on. "Well.." he murmurs quietly.

[Into the Wireless] Jason says, "Flight, Stand-up. Everyone still with us out there?"

Getting the Raptor through the debris and such, Jason frowns a bit as his gaze moves towards the station they're approaching. He keeps silent for the moment, though.

Phin tries to tune out the collision alarms and concentrate his attention on a mix of what he can see and what's being said over the comms. At Ygraine's word, some quickie course correction and asteroid dodging that ensues. He pulls his Viper sideways sharply, skirting just past that hunk of space debris. He rights his course back in line with Jason's Raptor once he's clear of it.

Despite Ygraine's warning, Holtz still barely manages to avoid another particularly quick-moving piece of rock. His sudden roll out of the thing's path almost carries him into yet another rock, yet somehow he's able to avoid wrecking himself on any of it. He lets out a sharp exhale as he comes through it unscathed, somehow, and rights his course to resume his original position at the head of the procession.

[Into the Wireless] Zachary says, "Flight, Pie. Shake and I are going to check the personnel farm. I'll take the heat for picking up survivors."

[Into the Wireless] Holtz 's breathing can be heard over the coms for a moment, ragged and quick. He steadies himself quickly, though, and speaks. "Pie, Standup, Storm. It's your show now. Dolly, let's trace out a perimeter, give these guys some room to work, yeah?"

[Into the Wireless] Phin says, "Milkshake, Dolly. Copy. Nice eyes. Got around it, no damage taken. Flight, looks like we've got more than rocks around Vesta. Loads of metallic debris around the moon. Maybe from the mining station." Or whatever might be left of it. "Storm, copy. Flying wider."

[Into the Wireless] Jason says, "Flight, Stand-up. Will take a look at the control facilities."

Waggling his Raptor's wing to the team, he turns from the group and Zachary leads his Raptor towards the peronnel facility and clicks on every frequency to start to listen for emergency broadcasts.

[Into the Wireless] Ygraine says, "Dolly, Milkshake. Thanks. The rest of me's pretty nice, too. But now you two are on your own, Pie and I are about to veer of. You two mind your DRADIS, k?"

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Milkshake, Storm. We'll try to get on without you, somehow."

<FS3> Ygraine rolls Ecm-1: Good Success.

[Into the Wireless] Ygraine says, "Storm, Milkshake. Don't be a ha - " she stops, and suddenly she's all business again. "Flight, Milkshake. I am registering a dormant raider in the debris. Getting coordinates.""

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Hey, Shakes, I was bein' ser — " Storm's voice cuts off midword. "Ah, hell. Copy that. Dolly, let's get the bugger. Gimme a location, Milkshake, my DRADIS is still frakked.""

[Into the Wireless] Ygraine begins to read off coordinates. "Flight, Milkshake. Four oh five six, five oh nine three, four oh one eight five. Bearing two sixty. Be careful. Might be playing possum."

[Into the Wireless] Phin says, "Milkshake, Dolly. Coordinates received. I'm with you, Storm."

Vesta is the size of a very small moon, and the sharp curve of the horizon outside of the Colonial's cockpits indicate how small. The debris drifting around the asteroid is obviously from a Colonial instalation. There is half of a shuttle here, an engine from a cargo vessel there, a padded seat from somewhere… The list goes on and on.

The Personel Facility will swiftly come into view for Pie and Shake, and its appearance is disapointing at best. Large holes have been blasted in the main building, and many of the smaller outbuildings have been severely damaged. If they fly in low and close to the ground they might see the bodies of Colonials laying on the surface of the asteroid — having been strafed while trying to run towards the main facility.

The Control Facility itself is located near the mine, and is also where the landing pad for the asteroid was located. Like the Personel Facility, the Control Facility was attacked as well. Dozens of ships lay in pieces on the landing pad. Nearby tylium storage cylos have been drestroyed as well. The destruction there is nearly complete, and much of the debris orbiting the asteroid no doubt came from that location when the cylos blew.

All emergency channels pipe back only static at this point.

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Got it, Milkshake. Fangs out, Dolls. If he is just playin', I wanna scrag him before he gets tired of the game."

Zachary draws in a breath, but he does it anyway. Clicking over to the civilian facility, he radios. "Tylium Station, Tylium Station. This is Rescue One. If any souls copy, respond. Repeat, if any souls are alive, please respond."

Holtz' Viper abruptly turns at Ygraine's warning, and he adjusts his course until he's heading for the indicated coordinates. He brings his guns on line, a frown of concentration on his face as he looks out into the field of debris, trying to get a glimpse of the enemy craft.

Phin's weapons go hot on Holtz's orders. He eyes the targeting read-outs on his instruments, frowning some at how the port cannon is operating, but little he can do about that now but try to compensate.

The dormant raider continues to drift harmlessly for now — floating amongst the wreckage of a cargo ship. Anyone getting a visual on the Raider itself would note it looks fairly beat-up — though if it is dead or alive isn't readily apparent for the moment

Moving his Raptor over to get a good look at the control facility, Jason lets out a bit of a sigh. "Looks quite bad," he mutters, shaking his head a little bit now.

[Into the Wireless] Jason says, "Flight, Stand-up. Control Facility looks like they hit it quite bad, broken ships and all."

[Into the Wireless] Zachary says, "Flight, Pie. The personnel facility is out. No survivors. Starting back towards the herd."

"We'll check the mines, Milkshake." Turning away from the personnel area, Zachary leads the Raptor over towards the mining facility, flicking on the search lights to get a better look inside the facility.

"Copy that." says Milkshake. "I'm still worried about that dormant Raider, but the vipers can handle it, I'm sure."

"I am too, Shake. Keep the ECM warmed up in case we need to go weapons hot." Zachary murmurs as they move to poke into the mines and take a gander at what they can find.

Holtz' Viper slices through the asteroid field; he lays on the speed as he closes on the coordinates Ygraine gave them, hoping to get close enough to kill the Raider before it decides to wake up. As they approach, his DRADIS picture resolves enough for it to confirm the enemy ship's presence with a red dot on his screen. "Got you," Holtz mutters, his index finger twitching slightly on the trigger.

Phin follows in as much synch with Holtz as flight in the asteroid field allows. He steers himself a little clear of his lead, so he can fire at the seemingly dormant Raider from a slightly different angle when it comes to that.

<FS3> Ygraine rolls Ecm-1: Failure

Jason looks around for a few moments longer, flying a bit lower just in case, before he moves the Raptor a bit further out again now, looking around for a few moments.

The Viper Pilots swiftly approach the dormant Raider, and ever so slowly the visor on its cockpit raises. It starts scanning the incoming Vipers, and then its engines fire. In a long slow arc, the Raider turns to head away from Vesta towards the asteroid field. For now it looks like it is turning tail, and running.

The trip to the mine isn't overly long from the personel facility. They can follow a tram-line straight to it. The mine itself is a large gaping hole in the asteroid itself, and extends down all the way into the heart of the asteroid. Here a lot of the equipment is intact. Cranes, elevators, and piping extend down into the hole. None of the light inside of the mine are on to show the interior condition, and after perhaps a couple dozen feet everything is dark. Sitting next to the mine is a Tylium Refinery Ship, which despite some apparent exterior damage to her sublight engines appears to be in relatively good condition.

[Into the Wireless] Zachary says, "Flight, Pie - we have a ship, I'm going to give it a flyby to check it's condition. Once I have a good look, Stand-up be ready to go back to Cygnes and pick up a skeleton crew to get it up and running."

"Jackpot." Zachary says as the searchlights glance off of the armor of the ship, but he's too far away to get a good look at it. "We're going in for a closer look, Milkshake, hold onto your panties." With that, he guides the Raptor deeper into the darkness, ducking the craft beneath the fallen equipment as he closes the distance on the Refinery ship for an active scan.

[Into the Wireless] Jason says, "Pie, Stand-up. Will do, as soon as you give the word, boss."

"Ygraine…" Zachary breathes in, using her actual name instead of her callsign. Are you seeing what I am?" Zachary asks as he leads the searchlights over the ship as he notices that flickering running light. "We'll have to leave a team here to work on it. Could take weeks, but I think she may be able to fly again." he admits as he starts to turn the ship over. He won't call for a boarding party yet, but he starts making notes, so that he can make the recommendation to Marcus.

As the leader, Holtz is the first to fire. The Raider is nimble, though, and dances out of Storm's line of fire… only to put itself directly into Phin's.

It's not a particularly glorious kill, being something of the equivalent of shooting a fleeing Raider in the back, but Phin scores a hit on the enemy ship. He relies on his right-side weapons more than his still limpy left ones, glancing a shot off the Raider's wing. Which, while it doesn't blow the thing up, sends it careening into an asteroid. Where it blows up.

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Nice shot, Dolly. That one's all you."

[Into the Wireless] Phin says, "Flight, Dolly. Splash one. Storm, thanks, though this is creepy. Either that thing was totally dead, or it was trying to lead us somewhere."

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Let's not find out where, yeah? Headin' back to the mine."

"Yeah…yeah, I see it." Ygraine mumbles. She's aware of its importance, but can't help but note, "The vipers are engaging the enemy. We should go help them? We need to bring a team back from Orion, so ain't more we can do here right this sec, Boss."

[Into the Wireless] Zachary says, "Flight, Pie. We have a ship. She looks salvagable. I'm going to take pictures to send back to CIC. And no photobombing, Milkshake."

The Raptor under Zachary's skilled hand arcs over easily into the mine, and starts to descend. It doesn't have to go far before it runs into trouble though. All of a sudden the DRADIS in the Raptor starts going crazy, and warning claxons start going off — two targets have a gun lock on the Raptor. Then in the darkness of the mine, a pair of red lights start to glow ominously — as if some stygian beast dwelled in the mine itself. Then the Raider's rush forward to attack.

[Into the Wireless] Zachary says, "Shit! Flight, Pie! Contact, two bogies! Milkshake surpress right, I will fire on it, try to avoid left! I'm getting us out of her. All Flight units, ambush, ambush, ambush!"

Holtz quickly turns his craft end-over-end with the help of his thrusters, and starts jetting back towards the mine. The dormant Raider's plan becomes evident, however, as two new contacts appear on DRADIS right as Zachary calls out over the coms. It wasn't a trap for the Vipers after all, but the Raptors. Holtz snarls as he leans on his throttle, but the two Raiders are going to have time for at least one attack run before he gets there.

"Frak…" Phin mutters, speeding after Holtz toward the coordinates of the Raptor. That 'dormant' Raider took them far afield a bit, though, so it'll take a moment to reach them.

"Shit! Ambush!" Zachary yells out, pulling hard on the stick to try to yank back the Raptor as he arms the missiles. "HEAT up! We're firing a spread and haulin ass, surpress that Raider!" he yells out to Milkshake. He was not expecting a Raider in /his face/.

Holtz' breath catches in his throat as he sees an explosion, but he calms somewhat to see it's a Raider, not the Raptor. Still boring in, he's finally in range, and he cuts loose a stream of crimson darts from his own KEWs as he targets the second Raider from the initial ambushing pair.

[Into the Wireless] Phin says, "Pie, Milkshake, Dolly. You guys OK?" It was a big explosion. "Storm and I're within range. We can cover you."

[Into the Wireless] Zachary says, "Splash one. We're pulling out. More raiders, we're boxed in. Shake, switch to missiles, we're going to have to fight our way out!"

[Into the Wireless] Ygraine says, "Copy that, missiles locked and loaded."

The pair of Raiders rush forward, and the lead swiftly meets a terrible end at Zachary's hand. The other Raider dodges around the blast, and keeps on coming — passing by the Raptor to block its escape out the top of the mine. With its thrusters firing it turns over to shoot down at Zachary. Deeper in the mine, as Raider-1 is destroyed, another pair of eyes begin to glow. Like the mythical Hydra, cutting off one head leads only to two more. The pair of Raiders rush forward now after the Raptor, firing a spray of rounds after Zachary's ship.

As soon as the missile hits, Zachary doesn't have time to celebrate the explosion. His ship is getting hit hard, and he is already trying to turn the Raptor around and bug out. "Milkshake, hold on tight, we're going to be sloppy. Arm missiles, we need to fight our way out!"

[Into the Wireless] Jason says, "Pie, Stand-up. What's happening over there? I'm coming over to give you guys a little help."

Phin zooms toward the Raider's position with Holtz. One the Raiders, at least.

Ygraine readies the missiles, switching to the targetting system and tracking the raiders for her first opportunity to fire.

<COMBAT> Zachary spends a luck point to keep fighting!

Moving his Raptor over to provide a bit of help, Jason manages to get the ship's minigun lined up for a shot at the Raider trying to block the path of the other Raptor. "Heads up…"

There's a wince of pain as Zachary is hit and draws in a gasp of pain. "Ow.." he yelps as he grabs the stick and his head hits against the panel, dizzying him as he continues to try to juke past the other raiders through the damage of the destroyed Raider. "..almost there, Shake.. surpress, surpress!" he yells, trying to get them free so that the Vipers can engage.

[Into the Wireless] Zachary says, "We're hit.. surpress, surpress! I'll get us out, Shakes!""

When the Raptor pops free of the mine, the pair of Raiders are close behind. They are firing into the Raptor at almost point blank ranger. It is a vicious assault, but now they are out in the open where anyone can have a shot at them.

In this case, revenge is a dish best served with red-hot tracers. The Raider that hits Zachary's Raptor is itself skewered by fire from both Holtz and Phin. The former's shot is centered slightly better, and the Raider bucks and promptly explodes.

[Into the Wireless] Holtz says, "Got the bastard… scrag one. Clear out, Pie, we'll cover you."

Missing his shot, Jason still keeps his Raptor there so he can help at least distracting the two Raiders. Hopefully it'll help in getting the other Raptor away.

"Pie! You okay? Status!" Ygraine is half-risen from her seat, but still hunched over her console and working frantically.

"Mmfine, keep surpressing." Zachary says, unable to evade, he charges towards the Raider and the Vipers beyond.

Phin spends 1 luck points on This is probably /not/ a good idea, but. 1 for Piloting.

<FS3> Phin rolls Piloting-1: Good Success.

Phin takes a deep breath and…flies roughly toward the path of one of the Raiders. Trying to attract the thing's attention as it pursues the Raptor, and put himself between the enemy and friendly ship. In the quicker ship, it works. Lucky him. He does a lot of scrambling attempting to adjust his targeting instruments and go into something resembling evasive maneuvers. Such as they're possible in the asteroid field.

Yet another hit to the cockpit and the Raptor shudders, master warning and caution lights coming on all over the board. Zachary draws in a breath, his vision doubling and the blood flowing into his ear where his head slammed into the console. "…surpress and I'll latch us to the Cygnes. I.." he makes a small noise, slumping and deadsticking the craft forward. "Come on, we're getting home." he says, glacing at the picture of Eden on his dash.

Zachary's Raptor survives another onslaught, but isn't out of the woods yet. Raider-3 stays hot on Phin's heals briefly, but then slows, stops, and spins back towards the fleeing Raptor. The KEW fire doesn't issue forth, but the missle lock warning in Zach's cockpit starts to growl loudly. Then a single missle drops from the Raider's wing, and rushes towards the wounded bird.

"Good." Ygraine says. "Don't pass out. You make me take the controls again and Eden will get back a quiverin' mess. Stay awake!"

"Just keep talking at me, Ygraine.. how did our siblings meet?" Zachary asks, trying to find something to keep his mind aware and flying. "Spool the FTL for emergency jump."

With Phin drawing off one Raider, Holtz stays on the other one. It hits Zachary's Raptor with another salvo, but a moment later Holtz drills it amidships with a KEW burst of his own. At first it doesn't seem to do much damage, but it knocks the raider around just enough so that it gets clipped by one of the rocks that was so bedeviling the Vipers earlier. The only difference is, it doesn't do as good of a job recovering as Phin and Holtz did; it careens off the rock and explodes in a flash of light as it slams into an even bigger one. Growling in triumph, he arcs over, looking for the final raider.

Phin manages to flit around Raider fire while the thing is on him, though he doesn't hold its attention for long. He comes around, flying more aggressive now that he is no longer in the thing's sites.

Still just trying to do whatever he can to help distracting the remaining Raider, Jason lets out a few choice words, that he keep carefully off the comm now. Simply remaining in place, and firing off a shot at the Raider.

[Into the Wireless] Zachary says, "Milkshake, emergency jump! Near orbit, Piraeus and prepare to ditch!"

[Into the Wireless] Ygraine says, "Already spooled! Jumping…now!"

The missile explodes right next to the Raptor, and it disappears within the explosion…

Only to reappear right over Piraeus, the Raptor trailing flames and smoke as the Raptor drops into the atmosphere over Sheridanm but misses the air field, disappearing far in the woods. "Bail out!" Zachary orders, pulling himself out of the controls and cries out in pain as his foot is stuck in the throttle, but he yanks it out.

[Into the Wireless] Holtz's voice is muted as he watches Zachary's stricken Raptor disappear in the flash of an FTL jump. "Flight, Storm. Let's get back to Cygnes and get the frak out of here."

[Into the Wireless] Phin says, "Shit…!" Phin probably did not mean that to go over the comm. "Storm, Dolly. Not reading anymore contacts. Pie jumped…I think." His confidence maybe isn't super-high in whatever became of the D-CAG and his blonde ECO. "Copy. R-T-B.""

[Into the Wireless] Zachary says, "Orion actual, Orion six-two, bail out, repeat, bail out.. coordinates follow.. *static and silence and the radio goes dead*"

[Into the Wireless] Jason says, "Flight, Stand-up. Looks like Pie made the jump. And I agree with Storm. Let's get back home as soon as possible."

Phin flares his engines back toward the Cygnes, trying to avoid face-planting into an asteroid while landing. Because after all that, that'd just be ironic.

In the privacy of his own cockpit, Holtz snarls furiously, a gloved fist hammering repeatedly at the side of his cockpit. He at least remembered to turn off his coms beforehand, though. After a moment of venting, he flips his fighter and guns the engines, heading back in the direction of the cruiser that brought them here.

Jason turns his Raptor around to head back to the cruiser now. Muttering a few things under his breath as he works on getting back there.
