Fitness Centre - Deck 3 - Battlestar Orion
Smelling of sweat and grease, the Fitness Centre is a place where individuals can come to work out or just work off stress. The area closest to the entrance is taken up by two very large sparring pads with a pathway down the centre, each pad removable to reveal a Pyramid court beneath. The walls beside the pads hold lockers for everything from pugilist sticks to boxing gloves to rubber guns, though deadly weapons are strictly prohibited in here except by authorized personnel such as on-duty Military Police. Standing goalposts for Pyramid are also kept against the wall. Past the pads are a vast number of nautilus machines as well as free weights to lift. At the back of the room are workout bikes, rowing machines, treadmills, and stairclimbers. There is an entrance to the pool at the rear as well as a locker room to the side.

With her hair pulled back from her face and a light sheen of sweat on her arms, Adeliza jogs back into the fitness centre and goes to the bay she left near the weights for her towel. She also pulls out a water bottle for a long drink, then caps it and stretches her neck side to side as she decides where to start working, first.

Toby looks to be doing a relatively gentle pre-shift workout. His fists are wrapped, suggesting he's been working on the punchbags, but for now he's just shooting a few practice shots at one of the pyramid goals. There's a bottle of water and his town to one side, but he doesn't seem to be bothering much with either right now.

It takes a few minutes for Liza to realize someone is on the pyramid court because she doesn't hear the ball. When her perusal of the gym finally gets to the court, a huge grin spreads across her face and she takes her water bottle over with her. "Shackleton," she greets as she steps onto the court. "You play?"

Toby misses the shot as Adeliza speaks, although from the look of it, that failure has nothing to do with the distraction she may or may not have caused. Fortunately, though, the rebound is kind and he only has to go a few paces to scoop it up again. Then, turning to see who has arrived he gives the Lieutenant a nod. "A little, mostly when I was younger. Makes a change from the treadmill sometimes though."

Adeliza grins and nods to Toby. "My childhood revolved around the Golden Horns. I wanted to be on the team. Take a few shots with you?" She backs up a step or two to put down her water bottle.

Toby shoots Adeliza a look as she names her team, "please. Bulls or go home."" Not that he's biased of course. He eyes the goal a moment, considering things, then tosses the ball to her, "sure, knock yourself out. Just be warned, if Marcos spots you he'll try and rope you into a sort of mini-league he's trying to start between departments."

"I already signed up. Although I'll probably end up being a woman team. I don't think there are many in tactical that are that interested." Adeliza grins to Toby as she catches the ball and takes a couple steps forward to make a mid-distance shot on the money. "Why don't you sign up, Shackleton?"

Once Adeliza starts sizing up her shot, Toby backs off a few paces so he can dry his hands and take a drink, apparently happy to let the officer shoot a few before he's going to want to go again. "There's a deck team," he answers, "mostly the younger guys, but I have been known to play sometimes, when shifts allow. Mostly in the grudge matches against the stokers. Can't let those frakers beat us." The interdisciplinary rivalry between deckies and engineers goes deep after all.

Adeliza gives a little chuckle as she recovers her shot and takes the ball out to a diagonal shot. She pings the goal and takes a couple quick steps for the rebound and nails the closer shot. "Those are my favourite games to watch, when I can," she admits. "they're even better than flight vs marines". She catches the ball and turns to Toby to see if he's ready, yet. "I'd love to offer you a little one on one practice, but Colonel Stone would probably kill me. She injected something in me yesterday that's supposed to take a couple weeks to fix my ear."

Toby seems happy enough to let Adeliza keep going as he rolls his shoulders a few times, and works on a couple of stretches. "Marines and flight are all talk that’s why," he explains causally, "they're good at the posturing, but there's no passion there. I imagine it's like tactical would be if they fielding, lots of people standing around analysing, and no one getting stuck in." As she mentions her ear he unashamedly cranes his neck to take a look, then nods once, "yeah, best not. I can get over-competitive sometimes."

"I can't imagine," Adeliza replies drily to Toby getting too competitive. Noting his look she smirks and gives a shake to bear head. "Can't see it without a fancy scan. Explosion in CiC did a number on my inner ear. Hoped it would heal itself." She takes a close, easy shot then recovers the ball and makes a few traveling moves with it, ducking an imaginary opponent before she turns back the goal and shoots again.

"Yeah, so unlike me isn't it," Toby replies utterly deadpan, before taking another drink of water. There's a faint nod given to her reply about her ear but he doesn’t push the topic. Watching as she plays he asks, "so, what this gossip in the fleet then? Anything on the horizon in the near future?"

"There's always something on the horizon in the near future," Adeliza replies, and she takes the ball again. She spends the next few minutes working on ball handling as she speaks. "Good luck finding anybody that has anything to talk about other the Mother, though. Although," she turns and grins, "I've been at a disadvantage lately. I can only hear out of one ear, so I've missed at least half of what's being said around me."

"I've heard a lot about Mother," Toby agrees with a nod, even though he's only been across once himself. "What I've not heard a lot of lately is plans to keep looking for Paladin, or about going back to Ostia to support those we left behind. Guess I'm just hoping we haven’t got stuck in a nice comfy rut and are forgetting the bigger picture."

Liza gives a four little and turns to take her shot. It bounces around the rim then in. "Quiet before the storm, Shackleton. Everyone deserves what respite and enjoyment they can get now, because we never know when we're going to have a chance at it again." She goes over to pick up the ball and tosses it back or Toby. "Or if." She goes over and picks up her water, but doesn't open it right away. "Suggest you take advantage of Mother while you can. I'm going to hit the showers and maybe do so myself."

Toby nods slowly. He'd obviously prefer actual gossip, but so long as intel aren't just sitting around with their thumbs up their arses then he'll take it. Catching the ball as she tosses it back to him he passes it from hand to hand for a few moments then looks back to her. "Enjoy yourself Lieutenant, and I hope the ear thing works out."

The Lieutenant gives an up nod to Toby as she goes. "You should, too. And thanks. Dr. Stone practically guaranteed full recovery, and she's known to be good on her word." There's a less forced grin with those words, and then she turns back towards the main gym to go retrieve her towel and duffel.
