Observation Deck, Deck 3 - Battlestar Orion
The Obs Deck is one of the more quiet areas on the Orion where people can come to get away from the hustle and bustle that goes with of the rest of duty on the ship. The front of the room is a very large armored glass window to allow a dominating view of whatever is out ahead of the battlestar. Seats rise up at even levels, plush chairs and couches provided for the crew to relax in. During Condition One an armored plate is lowered down to cover the view and prevent the room from becoming a hazard and seal tight.

Mahasti is settled in, reading a text book of some sort and taking notes. She actually looks like she's been studying for quite a while, a large mug of tea is settled near the note book, and some snack remnants are lingering as well. The doctor is likely hiding in the observation deck because it is quiet and often only filled with people who like her need a place to think properly. She looks happy overall though.

Toby is, for now, off-duty as it's early enough that his shift in the bays hasn't started yet. Having been up for a while he's been to the fitness centre, showered, and is now entering the Observation Deck looking fresh and alert. His attention though is not on those around, but on the the armoured window. Making his way over he pauses just before the glass, gazing out at the view presented.

Mahasti blinks at the sound of feet "Hello Toby." she offers, returning to her book "I met someone I think you'd get along with." she offers calmly, taking her notebook to gently trace a diagram in her textbook onto her notes. It appears that in medschool she probably was *that* asshole who write in the margins of every book. She calmly smiles "Your skin looks good this morning." she chirps out, keeping her voice 'just loud enough' for Toby to hear without disturbing others.

Toby turns his gaze from the stars to the Doc as she calls over, giving a nod in acknowledgement as he does so. "Morning Doc," he replies, not yet moving away from the view. Her comment about his skin though, that gets an odd look before he just shakes his head and goes back to her previous comment, "and who would that be Doc?"

Mahasti is weird, yes. She smiles a bit, taking her tea to take a big draw of it, visibly savouring the liquid "Mm a big marine just transferred in. Staff Sergeant Winston Titus. Tauron. Although his moustache alone looks like it could snap my tibia without trying. Kind of stern. I think you might find him agreeable." she offers, likely trying to remedy Toby's homesickness through language "He also seems to be interested in Pyramid. I seem to remember you being interested in it." she nearly reports with a grin, legs shifting as she taps the book with the back of her pen.

"I've played a bit," Toby agrees with a shrug, "still try to when I can. Gets in the required exercise without having to resort to the machines." Moving slightly so he can lean on a bulkhead while he talks he crosses his arms over his chest he listens to the explanation and nods slowly. "A marine eh?" he answers, one eyebrow ever so slightly raised, "anything else to recommend him beyond our shared homeworld?"

Mahasti chuckles "Similar views on key issues?" she offers. "Also I think his personality is such you two will get along swimmingly." she offers, mumbling a bit "Or punch each other. Not sure." she offers "Also you have the same scowl line." she jokes, smiling brightly at him. "I don't know, haven't you just met someone and gotten a feeling of 'Oh they probably would get along with so and so' ?" she asks, with a grin.

"Key issues?" Toby muses, before he frowns, "I dunno Doc, me and marines, we don't tend to get along. Far more likely to result in punches as you mentioned." He leave it there though, not going any further and just shakes his head, "can't say I have Doc, sorry."

Mahasti chuckles "Isn't that how you greet each other in the wild?" she jokes." she asks calmly "Eh if you meet him you'll meet him. If you don't, no damage either way. I'm really more worried about having to bandage up somebody when he finds out about the fact some people don't mind toasters." she admits, calmly "Because he's big enough that he might not leave much to bandage." she admits, weight shifting a bit as she gets comfortable "You okay Toby? Anything bugging you today?" she asks after a moment, grinning lopsidedly.

"If he's a marine then he'll find out soon enough he's sleeping in the same berthings as one," Toby replies, shifting his weight to his other foot for a bit. "I'll be sure to sneak some popcorn from the mess in case I hear a disturbance from that direction," he adds, "wouldn't want to be caught short with the possibility of that after all." Or maybe sneak a lump of something heavy into the bunks so he can join in, who knows. Her query stops any further pondering in that direction though and he tilts his head a moment, studying her for a few moments before shaking his head slightly, "no no, everything is fine."

Mahasti ponders "Call me down and you can pretend to help me with medical stuff." she jokes, grinning slightly "I'm still not entirely comfortable with just up and trusting them." she nose scrunches "But, I believe in that whole 'fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me' logic that is so rare these days." she admits, taking a breath and a large sip of her hot tea. "Your skin looks good, you don't have any scuffs or bruises, I'm worried about you." she jokes "Although, you still look constantly tense. Do I need to prescribe you a heat compress to the shoulders and back or something?" she asks, grinning slightly, like a cat.

"I already found myself trying to stop one of them from bleeding out," Toby mutters, expression darkening slightly, "before we found out of course." That particular memory doesn't sit well with him so he moves on once more. "Should I feel the need to seek medical attention I'll find my way to sickbay," he states, arms still crossed over his chest, "I promise you that much." Watching a moment as the doc sips her tea he then shrugs once more, "everything is all right, bar the whole toaster thing of course."

Mahasti pats beside her "I hate watching anything bleed out, its the worst feeling in the world afterwards." she admits, as if it has happened to her. "Eh Toby, if you ever get stiff or have muscle pain, you know I can rub it for you right? Its more effective than pain medication. I am not a chiropractor or anything but my ma did teach me and I am a doctor." she offers, rubbing her head. "I can't tell you how to react to the toasters, and frankly your personal thoughts are yours. I can tell you that I personally won't know how I will treat one in an emergency situation until said situation comes up." meaning she could instantly feel compassion or leave a skinjob bleeding out in front of her.

"I think most of the ship is aware of my thoughts on the Toasters," Toby replies flatly, he's hardly made a secret of it after all. Something about her comments with regards to muscle pain causes an eyebrow to raise a little and an amused grin to do it's damnedest to break through onto his features. He fights it though and eventually just nods again, "I'll keep that in mind Doc, I'll keep that in mind."

Mahasti shrugs a bit "I unfortunately can't go to the spa after a hard week of work and get a massage." she blinks "Oh .." she sort of turns beet red across her cheeks first then branching out onto her ears "NOT LIKE THAT! Non non non non! You are as bad as a pilot Shackleton!" she sort of hides her face in her hands and tucks her head between her knees, muttering colourful and illustrative profanity in Leonese that could make a sailor blush as red as her! "Non non! Your muscles not .. degoutant!" she mumbles, face giving away the last word means 'gross' or 'disgusting as she pulls back up looking intensely embarrassed.

"Spa?" Toby repeats, shaking his head slightly with an amused smile still clinging to his face, "can't say I've ever been." As she realises what she said though he does the decent thing and turns to gaze out at the stars again until she can recover enough to continue the conversation. Turning back he holds his hands up "you said it Doc, not me, don't go blaming me."

Mahasti is going to be red faced quite a while she does however sort of rub her head. "Spa. I used to go once a week with a friend. I even used to get gently covered with mud on occasion and let it purify my skin, then a soak in lavender scented water and after a full massage." she reminisces. "I always used to get them because I don't like feeling numbed up or dumbed down from pain pills and it was a way to make things stop hurting and bring my head back around to matters at hand. Especially since I could read in the mud soak and bath." she offers, frowning lightly "I.. won't blame you but I am embarrassed and sorry if that came off wrong." she gets red again, looking like she might run off to avoid facing the embarrassment.

"Sounds…" Toby starts, not sure exactly what it sounds like, so instead he finishes with a slightly hesitant, "Leonese." He follows that with a quieter, "I know what you meant Doc," although he can't quite keep the amusement out of his tone as he does so. With the rising colour in her cheeks again he considers a moment then offers, "take your time," before turning to loose himself in the stars once more.

Mahasti rubs her head "Spas are popular on most of the colonies. I liked Picon ones. They always let me have sparkling wine." she admits, her weight shifting to move and stand beside him "I miss a lot of um crude humour because I wasn't ever really exposed to it before I joined the Navy. I went to private all girl academies growing up and when I got to proper academy for med school, I was always so busy. I have a sense of humour, really. Please don't think lowly of me." she murmurs, "When I got to Picon it took a while for me to become understandable in you know this manner of speaking." she's talking about colonial standard. "Leonese people speak Leonese to be spiteful." she mumbles.

«Some Taurans speak Tauran for the same reason,» he replies, in Tauran, before returning to colonial standard, "I suspect it is the same for most of the colonies." As for the humour, all he can offer is a shrug, "you'll get used to it, or you won't, depends how much time you spend amongst the great unwashed as opposed to sticking to the upper decks I guess." With the possible exception of the air wing of course. "Truth be told this is very much a second language for me too," he adds, glancing away from the stars for a moment, "it was mostly only used when dealing with off-worlders where I grew up, and that means the owners. As I'm sure you can imagine, they generally weren't too bothered with dealing with the likes of us."

Mahasti chuckles "It makes me feel better to be able to talk in Leonese at times, because there are somethings you can not say to some people without great fusses being made." she offers, grinning slightly "Teach me your language sometime. I've heard there are eighty seven words for dirt and colourful slanderous sayings." She grins slightly. "Its always nice to have a buffer when you need to vent about a worthless prat, and if it can be done without a write up, all the better, right?" she grins.

Toby eyes Mahasti at the mention of dirt, but after a couple of moment he turns away again without saying anything, figuring she isn't making an actual derogatory remark, unlike some who say such things. "It is nice, yes," he replies "although there are enough of us around that I still have to be careful. Including the XO apparently, never met her mind, but so word goes, that and one of the Viper high ups." Shoving his gloved hands into his pockets he nods once more at the venting comment, he's done that more times than he's willing to even try to count.

Mahasti rubs her nose "Holtz? Yes, He's from your world. He's a bit … rude for a Tauron, very .." she's looking for a word that isn't rude. "Gruff." she settles on. "I don't know if I much like that I keep ending up swarmed by pilots." she offers "Pilots are too .. there isn't a colonial word for what I'm trying to say. You and I? We know that a smile, a flirtation, or straight machismo won't get us out of every damn pinch we get into. We have to use our wits." she comments "Warren, if you'll take my word for it, is an all right Pilot but he had a humbling experience I wouldn't wish on anyone." she offers "He also knows that he suffers from punchable face syndrome." she offers with a grin.

"Rude for a Tauran?" Toby replies, seemingly surprised by that, "that says something. Some might say we're know for it," well, that and being dumb-thump-its. There's a general huff in agreement at the comment about pilots though, followed by a nod, "you mean they're arrogant twats. Yeah, that they are, 'specially Raynor." He shrugs to the comment about Warren, seemingly willing to take her word on Warren for now. "Most of them suffer from that in my experience," he notes, still star gazing it seems.

Mahasti chuckles "Raynor is just.. very boisterous. He's nice to me, and that matter to me, I feel like if I was in a spot he'd help me out of it. Although he would probably pick on me for having to help." she offers, cracking a smile "I've never met a Tauran I found myself unable to stand. You are gruff but I assume that it is the world you come from leaving its markings on your life in intangible ways. Every colony leaves its mark out of sight on its people, I think." she looks out the windows. "Someday. I want beautiful colonies full of people to spit on the toaster scraps and in a Leonese fashion remind them we're tenacious bastards." she offers, grinning as she pulls away to gather her books up. "I should probably grab a short nap before I go do my rounds in the sickbay. Thank you for letting me vent about how annoying foreigners are." Her tone gives away that she is joking, and if he glances she'll give off a friendly wink.

"Gruff," Toby repeats with a faint shrug, "I guess that works." He nods to the bit about birthplaces leaving their mark but then shakes his head at the next bit. "We shouldn't leave any of them to be reminded," he states matter-of-factly before it registers that she's leaving. "Have a good day then," he offers as she starts to leave before turning back to the view, muttering a few words in Tauran under his breath as he continues to watch the stars.

Mahasti grins "I hope that wasn't an insult Toby." she jokes, heading out "Oh be safe, okay. Always return home." she offers, giving a wave and heading off to likely go sleep in her bunk for a bit. She seems to be in good enough spirits though. Toby always cheers her up, in his own way.
