Description
Aristides "Janitor" Cole looks just shy of the Colonial maximum height for being allowed in the cockpit of a viper; the tattoo of his squadron - The Lucky Strikes - visible on his upper right shoulder blade when he's in his off-duty tanks. The rest of his ink looks to be a literal pictoral history of his life where it climbs up one arm and down the other in a swirl of colors and heavy black outline (and no doubt continues on flesh unseen). The other most notable tattoo, based on its prominent position of his left forearm, is a tattooed pair of baby footprints, barely larger than the set of hexagonal dog tags that rest against his chest. His hair is dark and kept shortly trimmed; the ghost of his facial stubble only kept at bay by his morning shave. Ari's hazel eyes seem sharp and alert, befitting of his chosen profession. The only other adornment he wears when he is able is a thin silver wedding band around his left ring finger, imbedded with a thin red stripe.
Cole is dressed in off-duty Colonial Fleet fatigues minus the outer shirt. A dark brown tank top covers a gray sleeveless T-shirt, with a pair of silver hexagonal dogtags dangling from a chain around his neck. The T-shirt is tucked into a pair of olive green trousers, the legs of which are bloused into the top of black combat boots. A subdued black web belt is worn around the waist.
Background
Eighteen months. That's all he has left on his jacket: eighteen months. In that time will come the dangled promise of a promotion to Captain, that ever important bump in pay raise and the all-consuming goal of a healthy retirement born out of an honorable discharge. Eighteen months. Eighteen more months, and then he can go home and be with his wife.
Rewind 35 years. Setting: The sweltering summer at the Kopira beach-side resort Carme de la Lua (or Garden of the Moon). Cintia Pescador, bartender, cleaning margarita glasses Center Stage. Enter Stage Left: James Cole, foreigner/tourist, wearing roadside stand straw hat; sunburned. The story goes something like this: "Can I buy you a drink?" says James. "Teehee, no I'm working." says Cintia. Cut to James' overpriced hotel room with the ocean view. Now fast forward thirty seven weeks of gestation. Enter Aristides P. Cole.
Act 2: Scene opens on our main character. Cue montage of hard knock life childhood set to sappy, emotion rendering music. Progression starts when Ari is a young boy, growing up without two cubits to rub together. Setting: Literal one room shack in a favela set back amidst the deep cover of the jungle that is just beyond the fringes of the resort town of Kopira. Big Business needs a place to store their workforce, afterall. Transition to young, dark haired Ari nipping fruit from the cocktails with wilted paper umbrellas that hotel guests have abandoned.
Then, age 9 as a sign spinner for local condos as mother's health deteriorates. School, crappy low-paying jobs, aging mother. Transition: lap dissolves. Defining childhood moment: camera push in on big Caprican director hanging out in a lounge chair. Fifteen year old Ari crosses upstage timidly holding out his life's passion: a screen play. His only copy. Director throws script in the pool, laughing. Tight frame on single tear rolling down Ari's face. Boy becomes Man. Fade to Black.

Random Tidbits
- Has a myriad of tattoos including a pair of baby footprints on his forearm, the Lucky Strikes (but no other of his deployments), a strange branding scar on his butt that looks like a bird, and an absolutely awful and undistinguishable amateur inkblot on his thigh.
- Abstains from alcohol, meat, and sex but the latter is likely due to the wedding ring he wears.
- Avid movie buff, or at least he has dozens of manuscripts tucked away in his bunk where most would keep pr0n.
