Toby Maia
Fitness Center - Deck 3 - Battlestar Orion
Smelling of sweat and grease, the Fitness Center is a place where individuals can come to work out or just work off stress. The area closest to the entrance is taken up by two very large sparring pads with a pathway down the center, each pad removable to reveal a Pyramid court beneath. The walls beside the pads hold lockers for everything from pugilist sticks to boxing gloves to rubber guns, though deadly weapons are strictly prohibited in here except by authorized personnel such as on-duty Military Police. Standing goalposts for Pyramid are also kept against the wall. Past the pads are a vast number of nautilus machines as well as free weights to lift. At the back of the room are workout bikes, rowing machines, treadmills, and stairclimbers. There is an entrance to the pool at the rear as well as a locker room to the side.
AWD #239

It's afternoon and the fitness centre is only moderately busy, a few people dotted about but no real concentrations anywhere. At his usual place infront of one of the punchbags, Toby has discaded his sweats jacket and by the loks of him, is about done with his workout. He certainly is in need of a shower sometime soon. His hands and wrists are wrapped, as per usual as he punches away, fists only though it seems as his feet move only enough to keep station with the bag.

After coming off of Alert 5 this morning, Maia had gone to the pool and spent a good portion of her day in there. She's just leaving it and wearing her sweats over her one piece suit, athletic shoes over her feet. She's towel drying her hair and there's a tank top over her arm. First place she looks is towards the mats, seeing if there are any spars happening. Blue eyes rake over the Deckie on the bag offering a nod if he happens to glance in her direction as she continues drying her hair as good as she can with the towel.

Toby doesn't immediately spot Maia, he's too focused on the bag, but then tiredness forces a misshit and he has to stop and steady the bag a moment. Then he spots the pilot. She's just a patch of movement in the corner of his eye at first, but then he glances over to see who it is and returns the nod with a faint one of his own. Letting go of the bag and standing to roll his shoulders a couple of times he ponders if now is a good time to stop, or if he might have a bit more in him, watching the pilot absently as he does so.

Draping the towel around her neck, Maia watches the way he continues to attack the bag, maybe even admiring the movements. She does like to spar and it seems like he knows what he is doing. "Having a good workout?" The words are just meant to break the silence, she realizes they aren't friends but she's still being friendly.

Toby is to be honest, not entirely sure of the nature of his relationship with Maia at the moment, and likely won't be until she's proven the words of her apology either, but he's cordial at least as he nods back in response to her question. "Not bad," he then offers, lifting one hand up to rub the back of his neck and then wipe the sweat from his brow before it gets too close to his eyes, "reckon I'm about done though."

Maia gives him a somewhat hesitant nod of acknowledgement, the cautious relationship they seem to have making the conversation a little stilted at least from Maia's point of view. "Looks like it was a good one." Reaching for her tanktop, she pulls it on over her swimsuit, redraping the towel over her shoulders. "I think I am about to hit the head after my swim and come find a spar later tonight if I can."

Toby gives a faint nod in agreement at Maia's remark, it feels like a good one too, although he's no expert on such things. Starting to stretch a bit to warm down he nods again at her comments about grabbing a shower and then about sparring afterwards. "Sounds like a plan," is all he can immediately offer, and while that's not really saying much, he figures it's margianlly better than saying nothing at all, then adds, "I'm sure someone will be about." It's just pleasnatries really, but while he doesn't particualrly fancy and indepth and interlectual conversation with the Lieutenant, he doesn't particuarly feeling like being in-her-face rude either.

Civil is good. It seems that's what the two of them are doing, at least to Maia anyway. Holding both ends of the towel, she shifts to her other foot almost distractedly. "Yeah," agreeing about the plan and someone being about. "I bet they will be. Sparring is more fun sometimes than punching a bag." Looking as if she is about to leave, she shifts to the other foot again and offers a smile. "So, yeah.. it was good talking to you and stuff."

Shifting to stretch out his other shoulder Toby takes a couple of moments before he nods his reply to Maia. "Yeah, good." It's a bit hesitant and somewhat lacking in conviction, but it's definitely civil and not a means to pick a fight or re-open old wounds, so that a start perhaps. "See you round."

Walking to the hatch Maia looks back and nods. "Sure thing, see you around." So, that could have gone worse. The conversation could have been heated and angry. Stepping out, she heads off for her shower.
