Observation Deck - Deck 3 - Battlestar Orion
The Obs Deck is one of the more quiet areas on the ship where people can come to get away from the hustle and bustle that goes with the rest of service in the fleet. The front of the room is a very large armored glass window to allow a dominating view of whatever is out ahead of the battlestar. Seats rise up at even levels, plush chairs and couches provided for the crew to relax in. During Condition One an armored plate is lowered down to cover the view and prevent the room from becoming a hazard and sealing it tight.

Even the CAG is off duty every sixteen hours, and so it is today. Niko finished his CAP mission and debrief, then slogged down to the obs deck to chill out for a while. Still in his flight suit and sporting moderate helmet hair, Niko has slumped down in one of the chairs and propped his feet up on the row in front of him. This posture makes his footwear rather prominent — red civilian athletic shoes rather than regulation flight boots. The shoes look like they've seen more than their share of missions.

Gloria has had the joy of being the alert raptor for the last few hours, but thankfully things have been quiet. She's had time to shower and change then had initially headed to the library to get some work done on her assigned research, but turns out there's a skath loyalist in there, so she figured it was safer just to grab what she wanted and go elsewhere. The Obs Deck is generally quiet at this time, so she arrives through the hatch with several books under her arm, and a dataslate in the other hand. Hunting for an empty settee she spots Niko and giver her boss' boss a friendly nod in greeting before plonking herself down nearby. "Quiet one today sir," she offers conversationally as she opens up her notes and waits for them to load, "can't really complain."

Niko looks up when Gloria approaches. "Hey Dodona," he flashes the ECO a tired-looking grin. "Yeah. We can use a few quiet days like this." His gaze flicks to the books she's carrying, then back to the woman. "Doing some homework?"

While her work isn't classified as secret, or she wouldn't be doing it here, Gloria does just do a quick glance round, just in case, then nods once. "Nyx has been looking to see if I can find a way to stop the skath jamming our anti-aa missiles. Been a while since I did work in that area so I'm brushing up in the basics before diving in head first. Twenty years since I got the Qual, but I guess that's no excuse for slacking on it." Well, forty years technically, but hey, who's counting.

Niko listens to Gloria's explanation, running back over the various projects the Wing is working in his mind, then gives a nod as he recalls. "Those second generation missiles we got off Aerilon, you mean? How's that working out? Any luck?"

Gloria holds up the top book on his pile so Niko can see. It's not quite 'sabre-sites for dummies' but it's pretty close. "I'll let you know when I've reminded myself of everything I've forgotten over those twenty years. Going to need to pull all the recordings we have from when we've faced them recently, but that shouldn't take too long, then it's pretty much in the hands of the Gods timewise. There might be an easily recognisable floor in their jamming, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Of course, it'd be a lot easier if we had one of their sets to take apart, but I suspect that might be a tall order for the marines."

Now the CAG gives her a quizzical. "Saber? Is this about using our saber-killers against the jamming ships of those fraks who attacked us? I figured, with them jamming every frequency in the universe at max power, we wouldn't have much trouble with the seekers locking on to them." Now that they're talking shop, Niko pulls his feet off the chair in front of him and sits up.

Gloria shakes her head slowly as Niko enquires further, then slips her feet up onto settee and leans against the arm. "No, nothing to do with those guys, just seeing if we can get them past the Skath jamming." That’s all she's been told anyway. "I mean, I can take a look at the data we have on our mystery friends as well if you like, but I can’t promise how long it'll take unless I can find someone else to drag in to help me."

Niko listens, frowns to himself. "Yeah, I want you to clear it with Nyx first, but those assholes are our priority right now." It's war as far as the CAG is concerned. "Tell your CO I said bring in whoever you need and any problems, let me know." Which seems to remind him of something, and Niko looks over to give the ECO a considering look. "You ever think about becoming a Squadron Commander, Dodona?"

Gloria sets the sabre book to one side, swipes the screen on her dataslate clear, then picks up another tome, this one focusing on the fleet's anti-sabre ordnance, rather than the sites themselves. "Got it. I'll let Nyx know as she gave me the project in the first place. Give me a day or two and I'll have a plan of action ready, then start recruiting as required once I have jobs to give them." As he changes tack slightly she grins in faint amusement and shakes her head, "not really sir no. Mostly what I considered was hitting LT, retiring from the service and earning vast wodges of cash training the next generation of nerds in flight school." She shrugs slightly, "worked for a while.. well, bar the vast wodges of cash."

"Good," Niko gives a nod for Gloria's plan of action, then offers a knowing laugh for the story of her career path. "Yeah, and I spent twenty years being ready for a showdown with the frakking Cylons. Sometimes things don't work out the way you plan." This bit of nostalgia is only a brief diversion for the CAG however. "Anyway, start thinking about it. Just in case."
