Ella Madeline
Marine Enlisted Berthings -Deck 3 - Battlestar Orion
Housing for a whole company of Marines plus headquarters support staff requires more than one hundred bunks for the Marines' enlisted personnel. Divided into two primary bunkhouses, each one holds sixty bunks, one bunk stacked over another against the wall with a table between each row and a thin bulkhead between the sections. Rather than the blue curtains of the naval enlisted, each bunk has a dark green barrier with the crest of the CMC done in black. The lockers for the Marines are triple the size of the Navy's allowances, each locker holding a Marine's personal bodyarmor and several different sets of uniforms plus combat webbing and helmet. The space physically provided in the lockers might be larger, but the allowance for personal space is less, though the drawers beneath each bunk help alleviate the problem somewhat.
PWD #04

Ella is chilling out in her bunk, one hand crooked behind her head while the other holds the novel that she had borrowed from the library the other day.

When Ella was claiming her bunk, she may have noticed that the bottom bunk has a cute little red headed ragdoll on it. The owner of that ragdoll comes into the barracks as Madeline drags ass in from a day of drill and extra duty and starts towards her bunk. A tired smile is offered at the woman above her on the bunk, and she waves. "Hi Ella.. I guess we're bunkies?" she says with a small chuckle.

"Hey Madeline. Yeah, actually I traded with Peterson (random NPC). He wanted a bottom, I wanted a top," she explains with a grin. "You look beat."

"I am. I've been busting my hump planetside all day." Tossing her gear on the bed, she starts to strip out of her fatigues. "I'm trying to decide if I have enough left in me for the shower or to just collapse like this." The jacket and pants are folded and neatly put aside and she sits down to pull off her socks, stripping down to her sports bra and panties. "How have you been settling in?"

"Oh, just fine. Seems the whole ship has a fire under it's ass," Ella observes. "Drills, drills, and more drills. Who needs sleep, right?" Ella smirks at that. "How about you? Got a lot of flak from the mess in Charlie's?" Yeah, she heard.

"Yeah.. extra duty for a couple of weeks and I have to record a public service announcement on the dangers of drinking." Madeline says with a chagrined look. Gathering up her bag, she pauses, looking up at the girl. "Is those your brothers?" she asks as she gestures towards her photos.

"A PSA? Sounds like some of the brass have a sense of humor. Sounds like I missed a hell of a party though. What happened, anyway? I only got the ten second version from Noble." Following Madeline's gaze to the picture, Ella nods. "Yeah, that's Jace, and Alex." She indicates the other picture. "And that's some of the guys from my last ship while we were on leave on Scorpia." She shifts closer to the edge of the bunk, leaning on one elbow to make conversation easier. "Is that your boyfriend in your pictures?"

"..well, Noble.." Madeline sighs, one hand pulling through that red hair in thought. "..he was a jerk to me from the minute he first saw me. Turns out that was his way of flirting with me. I had a little too much to drink, and I tried to flirt back, and his ex-girlfriend stepped in." she sighs. "It's been too long since I've actually tried to flirt, you know?" she offers a smile, and looks to the pictures. "No.. that's Jacob. He.. was my husband."

Ella's brow creases at the mention of Madeline's husband. "Oh, frak, I'm sorry. What happened?" Ella asks, a sympathetic look on her face. She leaves the whole subject of the Charlies dramatic minefield untouched for now.

"We were on vacation and had an accident. He never felt a thing." Madeline smiles, and reaches out to touch Ella's cheek. "It's fine." she reassures her, and drops her hand to the side. "I like to think he still watches over me now and again. Though with the guys I've talked to so far on this ship, I'm almost ready to declare myself batting for my own team just to keep them from annoying me." she smirks at that.

Ella's brow creases sadly. "That must've been awful. I can't even imagine." She shakes her head. "As for the guys here … I can't blame you. Most of them are nice enough, but 18 months on a ship without any other prospects - I think they're contractually obligated to flirt with everyone. Noble's a good guy, though," she says, quirking a tiny smile. "Maybe you two just got off on the wrong foot."

"Oh.. you're interested in him?" Madeline arches her brow. Well, to each her own. "It's been a year since I lost Jacob, but I'm still not ready to get back in the dating pool yet. But if you're interested in him… I can tell you he doesn't like any of my music." Madeline says with a roll of her eyes. "And if he comes near you with mashed potatoes, just.. consider it kinky fun or something."

Ella is leaning on one elbow, but hitches the other shoulder in a slight shrug. "Maybe a little. We're just friends though, so, it's not like I'm asking you to back off or anything." She perhaps reads too much into the drunk-flirting incident. "I'm not sure I want to know about the mashed potatoes," she says, in a voice that indicates she totally does.

"Believe me, if you want to go after that, you can. I will not be in the way." Madeline says with a grin. "Yeah. One of the first times he saw me, he covered me in potatoes while I slept. Took me hours to get them out of my hair."

Ella arches amused eyebrows at that. "Potatoes. He is kinda a prankster," she admits, "But that… is just weird." She shakes her head. "Anyway, we're just friends, like I said." And the fact that she keeps saying it might make one wonder which one of them she's trying to convince. "I like hanging out with him, but shipboard romances always seemed kinda weird. Y'know, like - running into exes on shore leave and everything."

"Just try running into them every day when the romance ends after a month. I'd suggest if you want to date, find a nice deckhand or something. If you want to tumble with a Marine.. no strings attached. They start getting clingy, pull away." Madeline chuckles. "Jacob and I talked about this stuff before I joined the Marines, when I was just sleeping with him when he came home on leave and stuff, about guys he had to counsel after a bad breakup early in a cruise."

"Sounds like he was a real wise man," Ella says, a note of respect in her voice. "Was he a marine too?" she wonders. If it was obvious from any of the pictures, she must not have looked that closely at them. "But anyway, it's not like I'm looking for the first warm bunk to jump into."

"He was. A communications officer. So when I joined, I had to go enlisted." Madeline explains. "I started in communications - I was hoping to use my skills from my past to you know.. help in morale or something. But when he passed on, I switched to JTAC. Because I wanted to make a real difference, not just be some.." she gestures to a nearby bunk where a swimsuit picture of her hangs. "..that."

"Yeah, I can see that," Ella says sympathetically. "Well, I'm sure you'll do just fine. And hopefully not on any bunk walls," she says with a slight smirk. Glancing at her watch, she says, "Just about duty time for me. Get some rest, okay?"

"I'm going to shower first, and then hit the bunk. If you decide to date him?" Madeline suggests as she grabs her towel. "..go easy with him. His ego seems.. fragile." A smile at that, as she heads down the hall towards the head.
