On Piraeus
With one main road running north and south, the road parallels a snowmelt river the flows south towards a large lake and the planned site of the CMC Camp. To the north the road runs off towards the future site of the Naval Air Station and the ALS Jolie Point, the First Batallion's landing ship, then past and deep into a narrow ravine that runs along with the river. With the camp located on the west side of the river valley, there is a large bridge built to accommodate the construction crews working on the Presidential bunker out in the mountains. To the east is a mountain range that stretches for more than two hundred miles and quite a bit of the lower altitudes are grassy mountain valleys.
AWD #21

Things get to a start early on in the morning. Lines of thin rope tied off with brightly colored ribbons indicate the perimeter foundations of where the temple will be built; a spot by a river a few miles outside of Sheridan. For those that arrive early enough, bacon, eggs, and coffee are made available, and promptly afterward, a fatigue-clad Iphigenia is called upon to bless both the designated temple location as well the endeavor and those facilitating its building.

After that, work groups are organized, some responsible for taking down trees, others for moving them to the stack piles near the site so that others can do what's necessary to shape and prepare them for placement. Many, like Iphigenia, are moving through the groups with water and food and lending a hand when extra are required.

Someone's hooked up some speakers close to the temple site, some poor man's mix tape of classic rock and a few possibly inappriate booty call numbers (I Like Big Butts and a I Cannot Lie!); now and again people sing along as they work; the general atmosphere is not unlike a barn raising on Aerilon or the more rural parts of Leonis in the time before.

Fresh from a trip to a nearby hot spring to bath and get some alone time, Augustus and Ceres are holding hands and pressed close as they walk. "Ya sure ya want to go swinging an axe, darlin'? I'm sure Geni would love to have ya sit and enjoy tea with her." he teases slightly as he goes to grab up his axe. "I won't wander far and I promise I won't hurt myself." he reassures her as he sets the axe on his shoulder. "I'll give ya some more time to chatter tonight." A wink and a quick kiss as he lets go of the pilot's hand to head to the marked off area. "'ey, Geni. I'm ready to take a few whacks at some trees."

As Zachary had promised, the same Raptors that were used in the yesterday's paintball fight are on standy. They have some paint splatters on them and have been hooked with a sky crane harness to haul away the larger trees.

Phin has no objection to getting up early, so he was here in time for bacon eggs. And coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. Having no particular skill at lumberjacking but being in good shape for manual labor, he's been assigned to the work group that's moving the trees back to the site once they're chopped. He's paused now, taking a brief break to gulp some water.

Mid-back length black hair is still drying, left down and free as she adjusts her tanks and with her free hand. Ceres smirks and gives a hip bump to Augustus a moment before he snakes away to go get his axe. Her hands find the back pockets of her camo pants and she watches him before nodding her head, "Be sure them nasty trees don't turn around and smack you back." She's slow to follow, drawing closer with no axe in hand and idly watching the others.

"Sister," she finally addresses with a faint smile. Rubbing at her face, she still looks a little hungover but then adds, "Anything I can do to help?"

Ari, the snob, doesn't do bacon or eggs but he joined the others from the campsite to have breakfast and quietly chaw on his protein bar and have a cuppa joe before getting to work. The man would look odd trying to swing an axe, so instead he's opted for a much more familiar machete to hack some of the smaller limbs off the trees. Safety glasses protect his eyes as chips of bark fly around wily nily as he works.

"Good morning, Ceres." Iphigenia grin at the viper pilot's bleariness a bit, it is kind of funny. "Have some more coffee, first of all. And then what do you think you'd do best with? You could help the tree cutters, or the group bringing the wood closer to the site. And the rest of her running about with water and food and just being an extra hand where needed." Shading her eyes, she caches sight of various folk doing their jobs and smiles. "Everyone's been so kind to donate their time."

Stripping off his fatigue top and undershirt, Augie ties the jacket around his waist and tucks the shirt into the band to use as a sweat rag. Eyeing the first tree marked, he spits into one of his palms, rubs them together and picks up the axe. Large DCO is built die cast as he starts to thwack his axe against the tree in a rhythm with the music, his back and shoulders rippling with every blow as he swings his axe into the trees. Chop chop!

Oh hello! She blinks and stares at Augustus, a lopsided grin on her face as he strips down. She clears her throat though as she hears Geni and then hesitates. "I can give cutting a tree a go, Geni." She smiles faintly. "Let me grab a pair of gloves and an axe, otherwise be glad to help you carry water around." She glances towards Cole and Phin. "Besides, us women have to show these men they are not the only ones that can give this a go." She winks and pulls her hair back over her shoulders, the dark long strands tangling together before she moves to grab some of the supplies.

Phin has long abandoned his jacket, despite Piraeus still not being exactly summer-y, for just a tank top and fatigue trousers to work in. He finishes off his latest cup of water in a gulp and wanders back over to the area where trees are being chopped. Settling in with a couple guys to wait and watch until some more are ready to be hauled back. He ends up not far from Cole, watching the machete work. He spots Ceres, offering the other pilot a raise of his hand and open palm. It's not a very jaunty wave, but it works as one.

Janitor pauses hacking away at a limb as it splinters and falls away to the ground. He gives it a kick out of the way with the steel toe of his boot, and rakes his forearm across the sweat that dapples his brow. Usually the first to strip out of his shirt and flash tattoos, Cole is keeping oddly reserved today. "Max Power." He greets the nearby Phin, following the younger man's eye line to give an up nod to the others.

"By all means! I'd try my hand at it myself, but I'm quite convinced I'd rob myself of a few fingers in the process." Yeah, posh Iphigenia's likely never handled equipment more complicated than a gardening hoe. "Have at, and there are plenty of hands on deck if you need assistance." People have been separated into work groups: some like Augie and Ceres, cutting down trees, some like Phin, moving trees from point A to point B, and some like Cole, who work on de-limbing and prepping the logs prior to them getting stacked. And a few like Iphigenia, who ferry water and food to people, making sure they don't overheat.

Augie continues to lop away at the tree, unaware that Ceres has made the option to join him. He swings in a rhythm, humming a cadence as he goes along, whacking the poor defenseless tree. Above, birds squawk in protest and take to the skies, fleeing from the caphony of noise that the Colonials make. Augustus turns as he hears someone coming up behind him. "..'ey, sweetheart." he offers to Ceres. "Ya wanna get on the other side and start weakening it. It'll fall in my direction."

As he talks, a little black rodent scurries down the side of the tree. It's a cute little thing. Most of those that have studied such things would put it in the same family as a chipmunk. It sits there at the edge of the tree, nose and tail twitch, staring at Augie as he's talking to Ceres.

"Will do, Geni," Ceres says and moves to take up an axe and then crosses past Cole and then Phin with a nod to each. "Janitor…Dolly." Eyes flit to Augie and she grins at him. "Sure thing, can't promise anything amazing though. Not a big muscled logger.." She flexes though in jest before she gets to the other side and lifts the axe. She adjusts the grip and touching the edge of the blade to the bark, she finds her mark and keeps her eyes on it.

Heaving back, the slender pilot actualy slams the axe home hard, getting it lodged before she wiggles it out and she slams it home again.

"Janitor. Hey." Phin grins at Cole. "Glad to see that's catching on. I think it's got a ring to it. You done that before?" He points to the tree that Cole was hacking. "I've never lived any place that wasn't a city. I know how to get fuel for a trash can fire but…" He smirks. "…nothing that so much requires chopping something down." Unlike Ceres, he is not going to try his hand at logging.

Augie's eyes rise as Ceres shows off some impressive abilities with the axe. "Were ya holding back on me in that first spar?" he teases her as he starts to heft his own axe to start on the tree as well. He glances at the chipmunk thing and gives a growl at it to send it scurrying away.

The creatue blinks big black eyes up at Augie. But when the large engineer growls at it, the cheeks of the creature suddenly expand by triple their original size and it's mouth open and an ear-piercing screech slams the DCO in the face, rippling his face and immediately causing a massive headache and dizziness. "FRAK!" he yelps, dropping his axe.

The Shriekmunk leaps at Augie, landing on his shoulder, then leaps again, scampering across the ground and charging towards Geni, ready to break away from her at the last moment unless the Chaplain or someone else tries to stop it. Flee, Alvin, fleeee!

Cole rolls his wrist so that the blade of the machete is pointed towards the ground, half distracted for a moment as he watches Ceres with a little amused touch at the corner of his lips. "I used to clear the jungle out from around the favela…what the frak was that?!" Janitor winces at the noise. "The cartoon ones never did that." As if incensed by the noise, Viper pilot goes a-hunting with that big broad knife of his. "Like damned howler monkeys…" And he hated howler monkeys growing up.

To her credit, Gen does not drop her canteen of water, but she does give a little jump and yelp in startlement as the tiny creature races toward her. Stop the thing? She's going to get the hell out of its way and let it run off into the wilderness. A hand goes to her heart for a moment as she blinks and attempts to recover her dignity. Eyes flick upward to examine the reactions of others, and she fights off the urge to look sheepish about her own.

Creatures are to be expected, but not ones that shriek and pierce the air with its sound. Ceres drops her axe to cover her ears and looks up through half lidded eyes towards the DCO. "What in the blooming hades…." She says her own ears ringing slightly due to her proximity. She leaves her axe where it lies and she moves over once the thing starts to scurry away to inspect Augie, pushing loose hair from her face. "Augustus?" Her voice raises so he will focues on her. She is already looking him over for scratches or perhaps a bite.

Having been working in quiet so far, Fischer looks up at the screech, and over to Augie and the fleeing chipmunk now. "Interesting creature…" he offers after a few moments, turning back to working on clearing things again. Looking slightly amused, though.

"I'm gonna kill that FRAKKINGMUNK!" Augie roars, only because his ears are still ringing from the screen in his ears as he turns around, but the creature is long gone, cutting right across Geni's front and darts into the underbrush. "Ow.." Augie says loudly, rubbing at his ears, and then starts to laugh as he looks towards Ceres and nods his head at her. He's fine. He sticks his pinkie into his ear and gives it a good shake.

Phin seems set to ask Cole another question about jungle clearing, when the shriek of the woodland creature interrupts him. "What the frak…!" He springs up into a standing position abruptly. Not that there's much he can do, other than gawk in the direction the thing scampers. More moderately, "What was that thing? You OK, Sister?" That last to Iphigenia.

As that little thing goes scampering across Iphigenia's path, so does Ari go stalking past as if he's got a beef with that little creature of the Gods. He follows it into some underbrush, stomping in the twigs and dried leaves and using the tip of his machete to move the foliage around as he searches.

"I'm fine, Phin, I - " Iphigenia stops and stares as Cole goes stomping past her, but well, she's got no place stopping him, only to call out, "I'd quite prefer it you not kill that creature unless you intend it for sacrifice, Aristides." Did she just have a mental image of Cole presenting the tiny corpse to her like a cat leaving a dead bird on the welcome mat for its owner? Maaaaybe. "Phin, come with me a moment? Augie and Ceres may need help getting to the medic." With that, Geni jogs over to the couple. "You ought both go see the medic." she says, bending to gently place a hand on Augie's thick shoulder. "You alright?"

Pressing her own hands to her ears, she shakes her head and glances up. "Should have expected that," Ceres admits, "Well something." The pilot pushes her hair back again and watches Iphi approach, blinking at her. "I am fine, Geni…really." Says Redux but glances up to the DCO. "Think he's just a bit startled is all, may not hear so well for a while. That thing was louder than..you know what, Augustus is better at these colorful metaphors, I will let him decide." She rubs her hand back to her right ear again, still faintly ringing from the creature that is scurrying away.

"I'm fine sister," Augie insists. Even now he's getting back to normal. Apparently the screech only has a temporary effect as he shakes his head again. It's all good. "I'm ready to get back ta work." he promises the Chaplain. "Ceres, shall we?" he asks over to her.

Cole follows the creature and it chitters angrily at the pilot. Climbing up on a tree side, it turns towards Cole, puffs it's cheek and yet another ear-piercing screech is emitted towards Janitor. And if successful, it will try to run again.

When Sera arrives at the gathering, it's with a rather distinct "What the frak was that?" sort of expression painted across her pretty face. She might not have seen the furry little creature that's been tormenting the crew of the Orion, but apparently she heard the thing on her way down the path towards the temple. (Or, well, the empty spot where the temple is going to go.) She doesn't say anything for a few seconds. She just stares at them all with her dark brows arched so high they've disappeared underneath her bangs.

Cole jabs the tip of the blade blindly into the brush, stabbity stabbing a few times at nothing but flora. There is no further chittering or screeching, so the creature is likely long gone. That doesn't stop him from looking chastised as Geni calls out to him. He looks back to the priestess and makes one more cut at a bush like a petulant child who has been robbed his outlet of aggression. This all leaves him distracted as the creature takes a better position for which to bellow his anger at the viper jockey. The bladed weapon goes flinging as Cole's hands fly up to his ears, shoulders hunching in defense. "MOTHERFRAKKER."

The Shriekmunk lifts it's tail at Cole in a 'Frak You' motion and leaps off the tree, disappearing into the brush. Chitter chitter chitter it mocks you, Cole.

"Sure." Phin follows Iphigenia toward Augie and Ceres. Though his head is still half-turned to keep track of Cole's shriekmunk hunt. "Your bandit get away, sir?" he calls. Was that teasing from the ensign? It might've been. Just a little.

Shaking his head as there's more shrieking from the animal, Fischer winces for a few moments. "Leave it be, okay? Better for all our ears, I suspect." Going back to working for now, humming something under his breath as he does.

There's one of those black FAVs headed this direction from Sheridan. Its moving at a pretty good clip, the driver bouncing the suspension over small rises in the terrain. There's two people in the thing and the passenger appears to be holding on for dear life. As it gets closer, the two helmeted people becomes more apparent. A man driving and a much younger female in the passenger seat, both wearing their greens. But the vehicle slows as it approaches and stops about thirty feet from the area roped off. The two start unbuckling.

As Cole gets an earful, she can't help but laugh and Ceres looks at Janitor's back as she winces for him. Her lips press together and amusement sparkles in her dark eyes before that FAV is noted. She blinks and lifts her head, staring as it rumbles towards them and she can't help but snort upon seeing what looks like Jameson. "Oi, Augustus, it looks like your brother is here." Crusty crunchy old backwoods men. She steps up alongside him to watch its approach, arms crossing before her.

Aside from the fact that Geni kind of wants to laugh at Cole a little - she doesn't, but she really wants to - she says to Ceres and August both firmly, "If you feel seriously dizzy or sick, you do need to take a break at least." She leaves it at that, and then shades her eyes to watch the approach. Motioning for a nearby marine to lower the music, she briefly touches her hair to smooth it, and starts walking toward the unbuckling figures.

"Brother?" Augie says, popping a cigar into the side of his mouth to chew on as he turns around, and then whistles. "Shit, the old man's dropping by, huh. And me without my good smokes." he rumbles, chewing on the tip of the cigar and leans on the handle of his axe.

Don't worry, Jameson. No small animals were harmed in the making of this temple. Several members of his crew, however… At least Cole didn't take anyone out with his machete when he dropped it. With exaggerated movements, Janitor opens and closes his mouth and works his jaw as if trying to get the ringing to stop. "I THINK I SHIT MYSELF." Comes the overly loud voice of someone newly deaf.

Jameson gets out and strips off his helmet and tosses the tanker wear into the bucket seat. He runs his hand through his hair and looks around. Meanwhile the PO3 next to him, a short brunette, staggers away and does her best to put some distance between herself and the vehicle while staying within earshot of the admiral. He, though, looks around as he heads over towards the line. "What's happenin, folks?" he barks.

Phin tries not to laugh at his superior officer. And he mostly succeeds. He can't suppress a snort, but that's the extent of it. "Ugh…maybe you should see a medic about that, sir," he suggests as he approaches Cole. Making a sort of gesture to his ears and then pointing in the direction that the first aid-ers might be hanging out. The bark from Jameson makes him stand up straighter. It's not quite attention, but it approaches it.

"Sure thing, Geni," Ceres offers and then glances up at Augie as she walks away to greet Jameson. But she can't help but look towards Cole and laughs again, even doubling forward some before she gathers herself and places her hand over her mouth as she smirks for his misfortune. Brushing past Augustus, she returns back towards the tree and hefts up her axe, shouldering it so that she can go back to chipping away at the weakened spot so that they can get it felled.

Iphigenia is not going to laugh. She is NOT GOING TO LAUGH. Not in front of the Admiral. Go go Virgon stiff upper lip! She takes a breath instead, and offers with an air of cheerful efficiency, "Everything is going swimmingly, sir. We'll be done in a few hours. There was a, uh…brief encounter with a member of the local fauna, is all. I think," she looks over her shoulder, "It looks like Captain Cole may need to go visit the medic, but it doesn't appear serious. Would you like to come see the perimeter mark offs?" Because really, just brushing off the whole shrieking chipmunk thing is probbably a good idea.

"Just getting the big old Frak ya from Demeter, boss." Augustus says, tipping his axe in salute as he sets his jaw and turns to the tree. "Few more whacks, Ceres, and I'll give this fella nice push." he says across to his fellow tree cutter.

Cole makes that squinty face at Phin that indicates he's trying to read Dolly's lips. "Wha?" He mouths back, but at least he's not yelling anymore. As he sees Phin's frame tense up, he instinctually does likewise. Like he's guilty of something, he rings Phin around the shoulders with one arm and offers the Admiral a dopey smile. Nothing to see here! Just two blokes hanging out. Chopping things.

For a few minutes, Sera looks a bit lost. She lifts one hand to shade her eyes from the sun, which might otherwise block her view of the work site. She surveys it quietly, chewing on her lower lip for a few minutes as the years of on the deck experience kick in. It won't take her very long to determine who is doing what and where, exactly, a pair of hands is most needed. Why bother the chaplain? She's busy seeing to the Admiral's grand tour.

Looking around once again, Fischer stands up a bit straight at the Admiral's appearance, keeping silent as he looks between the others for now, keeping quiet at the moment.

"Yeah?" Jameson turns his aviator sunglasses on Cole. "Don't feel bad, son. I shat my britches once on a 9G pull-out from a bomb run. SAM blew the rear canopy clean off. At least you got a river close by. I had a two hour return trip at low level maneuvering." He sighs. "Asshole up front thought it was the funniest damned thing ever." He grumps and looks back to Iphigenia. "Sure! Let's have a look."

Hefting that axe again, Ceres pulls back and with surprising sudden strength she slams it into the wedge already cut into her side. The smaller side. The tree is going to go crashing down Augie's way soon enough if the Pilot keeps up at this pace. She wiggles and pulls the axe back out and angles it upwards to get a better triangle out of it and heaves it in. Toned arms flex and dark hair flows over her face as she slams it one once more with a solid -THUD-. Wiggle, wiggle, the wedge falls free to the ground and she pulls back, gritting her teeth and grunting as she slams the axe home again, getting it in good and deep. Wood chips start to fly.

Phin blinks at Cole when the older pilot arm-rings him. He just stands there stiffly, before raising a hand and offering a very awkward wave to the admiral. Two blokes hanging out. Yeah. "Can you hear anything, sir?" he kinda yells directly at his SL.

Augie follows on his side, with whack and thunks. And soon, his ears perk and he raises his brow. "TIMBER!" he bellows, stepping away from the tree, and in case Ceres' doesn't get the reference, he grabs her arm and starts to pull her back as well.

Cole nods in Jameson's direction while keeping that smile plastered to his face, and through clenched teeth, he asks quietly aside to Phin, "Did he just insult my mother?" Nope. Can't hear a thing.

"Right this way, sir." For Sera's benefit, people appear to be divided into work groups: folks cutting trees down, folks moving trees from their falling points to the stacks near the temple perimeter, folks stripping the trunks into lumber with smaller axes and otherwise prepping them for use, and a few folks who run about keeping the workers hydrated, fed, and serving as impromptu medics. "The corporal over there is Edward Fischer; he'll be in charge of constructing the furniture. I've got a rather clever fellow in Engineering working on a design for hydroelectric power." There's a brief turn of Iphigenia head to gaze at the bros just hangin' out, her expression clearly: get thee to a medic, pronto.

"Uh…" Phin shakes his head at Cole. "No, sir. Your mother's totally above reproach, I'm sure." He continues to kind of yell it, despite the fact that Cole probably can't hear him anyway. "Uh…could you help me with something over here?" He gestures and attempts to lead Cole in the vague direction of the first aid station.

As her arm is nabbed, the large tree creaking and twisting as it starts to go down, Ceres stumbles a few feet and lets the axe slide down to her side to be dragged across the ground as she lifts her eyes to the falling sentinel. She had been in the middle of throwing a few more swings but now just hugs close to the DCO as the limbs creak and crack, breaking as the tree tumbles down through the others.

The Admiral nods slowly, hands stuck into his jacket pocket. He leans to the side once and spits onto the ground on his side of the demarcation. Gotta love chaw. "Fantastic. You might need the power. Looks like we might be getting more guests if we can get rescues off the colonies. How long do you figure until you get this place up and solidly finished?" He looks over the area then back to Iphi.

Hugging Ceres back for a moment, Augie steps away. "Part two." he murmurs, chewing on that cigar as he radios out. Shortly, one of the Raptors comes into view and lowers it's large hook to latch onto the tree to haul it out of the area. As the hook settles down, Augie climbs up on the side of the tree and starts walking along the trunk to head down to secure the hook.

A Raptor that's splattered with paintball rounds, at that, natch.

"Nah, I'm not hungry but I could use a cup of coffee." Cole nods to Phin, plodding along with the younger pilot while he digs out a fresh cigarette.

Well, if there's one thing knuckledraggers are good at, it's moving heavy things from one spot to another. Which is exactly why Sera avoids that job; it's one she does all day. Instead, she moves towards the area where felled trees are being stripped of their bark and picks up a small axe, which is perfectly sized for the woman's slender hands. With that, she gets to work.

"That depends entirely on what kind of time and resources we're allotted, sir." Iphigenia says honestly. "Two more phases; if given the opportunity and time. Phase two to build the actual structure, Phase three to install its furniture and ideally by that time the power installation can happen as well. We coud make it happen in a matter of weeks if the head carpenter and engineer are given the time they need for their parts of their project; otherwise it might take closer to a month or more. But given the amount of potential influx coming in - there's possibly going to be a lot of housing that will need to be built, so I understand if things are stretched quite thin." Espying Sera, she gives the petty officer a wave before returning her gaze to Jameson.

"Umm…that's OK, sir," Phin continues to yell-non-converse with Cole as he leads his squadron leader along. They'll get to a medic eventually.

Listening quietly as he goes back to work, Fischer keeps a bit quiet. He didn't hear his name being mentioned, as he works on getting thing cleared at the moment. Going back to humming that song now, it would seem.

Jameson grunts. "Well we work with what we've got. Its done when its done. I can't pull other crews off as we need to get certain things done ASAP. I've got them contractors up there finishing off munitions storage. We're in a shooting war and we're going to need to salvage and a place to store it all. Its not pretty or humane, but without bullets, we burn." He sniffs once, scratching his nose. "Good to hear, though. Well I mostly came out here to drop off a cooler of beer for your group. You want it? Figured it might help motivate."

"Of course, sir." she says. Well, he did ask for an ETA, and she gave him one. "We'd greatly appreciate it sir." Though obviously the beer will keep until the day's work is finished. Chainsaws and booze are not a good mix. She smile, then. "We'll do what we can with what we have."

Bull. Augie can work magic with beer and chainsaws, but he has an axe. Tree secured to haul off, Augie hops down. "Time to start on another tree, hon." he says to Ceres, going off to seek their next target.

Watching Augie take care of the tree, Ceres lets a fond smile grab at her lips and she steps back, lifting her axe back to her shoulder atain. A glance is given to the Admiral, lingering there as her smile fades some. She shifts and looks momentarily uncomfortable until Augie speaks to her. She blinks and then turns back to him, nodding her head and following after. "Of course.." She says and smiles anew.

Iphigenia's nod is returned with a faint, fleeting smile from Sera. Jameson, meanwhile, receives a quiet "sir" as they pass by those stripping the trees of their bark, transforming them into something that looks a little bit more like bonafide lumber. It doesn't stop her work for long, though with her head canted to one side, she's clearly listening to whatever snippets of conversation she can catch over the sounds of metal hacking into wood.

"Outstanding." Jameson heads back over for the FAV and hauls a large icechest out of the rear and it can be heard to slosh when it hits the ground. Beer. He drags it over to the ropes and kicks the top open with a boot. "Have at." A hand reaches over to shake Iphi's. "Thanks for doin this, Sister." Once shaken, he nods to a few others. He fingerguns at Sera, "Rutlii," with a knowing smirk and heads back for the FAV with his assistant.

"Thanks for permitting us to, Admiral." comes Geni's reply, and with a nod, she leaves him be, so he can go about inspecting and being admiral-y and putting the fear of gods and Jameson into the workers and such.
