Arriving way way early, Reed sits on the edge of the Raptor, his kit spread out as he is going through the last minute checks. Just to make sure, yet once again, that all is right where it's supposed to be and everything is there. The Raptor crew go about all the usual things they do before a mission and are largely ignored by the Marine.

One of the benefits to being recently transferred is a serious lack of anything BUT the gear transferred over and allocated. So Kapali is early, yes, but everything she's carrying has already been sorted down to the last possible ounce and measured out. New, thankfully, doesn't mean green or shiney just newly assigned. She ambles her way toward the Raptor for this mission and circles her way around it, taking her sweet time to look the bird over before she nods at the Corporal already there, with his gear.

Leightner approaches in hard cover, P90 sling under his back, medical kit slung gunslinger low opposite the Picon five-seven. He is ready for deployment, or waiting for it. Medical brassard on his arm.

Ynyr eventually arrives as well, carrying his alotted gear and probably argued a good long while about the stinginess of their loadouts in grenades, calling it bullshit. One thing the Sergeant is, is one stubborn son of a bitch who isn't afraid to stand his ground and get in your face if he thinks you are wrong, even if it's an officer. Who knows if he managed to get an extra one or not or got his ass written up (ST's call). Either way, he's walking towards the others now, "Hey." He lightly slaps Leightner on the shoulder, then Ynyr gives the others nods.

Kostas has a quiet and calm demeanor about her, though like normal the Canceron bootstrapper rarely stays in one place for very long. Compact forms needing to expend energy and all that. She's kitted out, rifle over her shoulder and pristine. Dark eyes move over the assembled group, though it's to Kapali that she moves with purpose, a pair of precious night vision goggles in hand. Kos has a pair as well, safely tucked on her helmet. When she reaches the engineer, she offers them to her. "Corporal. Might be these'd come in handy when we get down there," she grins.

As Reed finishes checking everything, he hefts up the combination armor and harness and slips it over his arms. He turns just as the rest of the Marines arrive. Seems like he is not the only one that likes to arrive early. His weapon is next, hung by the tactical sling, and his helmet is held in his hand. He has that half smile that is the norm for him "Evening," he says to the other enlisted and Kostas gets a "Sir."

Leightner steps up, eyes narrowing as he takes in the assembled people, nodding to himself, as he's slapped on the shoulder he turns and grins, thumping Ynyr on the shoulder in passing, before looking past the man, nodding as he continues his mental headcount.

Instinct has Kapali reaching to accept the NVG that the Ensign offers to her, "Sir, thank you sir," she replies, examining the NVG briefly before a small tug of a smile forms on her face and she nods, "that they will, sir, and I'll be sure to return them in the condition that I found them," a simple promise. DON'T Break the gear, you break it, you buy it. She tucks them into the pack that she's carrying, shifting a few other items around to make sure the load is a balanced as possible. She angles a nod at Reed then spins the same studying look that she'd aimed at the Raptor around at all the other marines gathering in, a head tilt to Leightner and Fischer in recognition.

Having his ever-present two photographs in his hands, Fischer steps into the hangar without really paying too much attention to the others present at the moment. He brings the photos to his lips, one at the time, before he secures them where he always have them when at missions. Letting out a bit of a shrug, he glances around, nodding to the others a bit slowly now before he approaches the Raptor.

The MP Sergeant waits to see if there are any last minute orders while they stand around and before final loading. Lleufer quietly goes through his gear to check nothing important has been forgotten.

Neko trots into the hangar not far behind Fischer. If she's got any pre-battle rituals, she doesn't revel in them here. The others gathering are given quick nods as she does a final check of her gear and waits for the on-load.

As the jump off time approaches the Raptor crew begins strapping into their seats, helmets in place. It's still an hour before sunset so plenty of time to get where they are going and get the ambush team deployed and in position before actual night fall. If the timing is right, and the intel is right, they will have plenty of time to set up for the ambush before the Cylons fall into the trap.
Kostas pages: You want me to do the run down briefing quick?
You paged Kostas with 'That would be perfect.'
You paged Kostas with 'YOu know the lay out.'

Leightner moves to thr Raptor, looking in, and nodding to the Marines, as he knows pretty much everyone at some level. He looks at the door gunners seat, then around, before moving to strap into place, stowing his P90 and folding his arms and legs in for transport.

Letting out a bit of a sigh, Fischer boards the Raptor, finding himself a seat, dropping into it and securing himself now. Keeping his helmet in his hands for now, moving a hand over his head, a bit absently. Staying quiet for now, it would seem.

PO Kalum makes his way down towards the Raptors, wearing a fairly light set of gear — his medbag, armor, and weapons. This is supposed to be an ambush, not an extended engagement or rescue mission, and as such he is kitted out accordingly. He is wearing his black fatigues, so that he might disapear into the darkness better. He slips onto one of the Raptors, takes a seat, and pulls off his helmet.

As the Raptor crew begins their final prep, and the team is fully assembled, Kostas takes that moment to unroll a map, for a makeshift brief briefing. "We got eyes on th' area for awhile now. Best place t' set up is long this road" Here she indicates a road running through what looks like a rural area, with a nice curve in the area in which she's pointing. "Classic ambush, L-shaped. Team 1 will be Kalum, Ynyr, Reed, and Fischer. Kapali, you gonna set up our ordinance so we can catch as many 'f the frakkers as we can when they come 'round the bend, with Team 1 immediately opening up once they set it off. Team 2'll be Leightner, Kapali, Soun, and myself. We'll be a little further away from th' bendbut once we get down there Soun, I want you t' scout out the' best place for your tripod and we'll locate there." She looks around. "Any questions?"

Ahhh… and now it becomes more clear to Ynyr why Kostas gave Kapali the goggles - because she's heavy weapons. Nifty. Now Lleu suddenly likes the women he doens't know even more. The Sergeant leans against the Raptor next to the Ensign so he can listen and get a good view of the map as it's laid out with the plan.

Reed moves over to where Kostas unrolls the map, he studies it, yet again, as she explains. "Aye Sir," he replies as she names the teams. He gives them, his teammates, a nod then says "Lets get it done, time to kick some Toaster ass."

Leightner listens as the teams are laid out and nods, understanding his position. He looks about at the others in Team 2 and smirks lightly.

Neko nods short to Kostas. "Got it, boss. Shouldn't take too long, as long as we've got a little bit of a jump on them."

Kapali studies the map with the quiet intensity of someone of someone who's committing the image of the terrain to memory before she nods once, "Yes sir, I'm packing two Claymores, depending on the composition of the terrain here and here," she taps the map with one fingertip, "or here and here," another option, "are ideal." This said she eases back a step, out of the way really, and puts more names to faces as the Ensign sorts the teams.

Kostas offers Kapali the map to study if she wishes as she waits for the marines to board. Those brainy types and their maps and shit. "You EOD for th' mission, Corporal. Make your decisions. If there's something major, I'll step in, but…you got this." She winks at her, and then nods to the group. "Let's load 'em up, Marines."

Neko loads up where she's supposed to load up and straps herself in for flight. She does not look terribly enthusiastic about Raptor travel, but she'll lump it.

As the meeting ends, Reed climbs up into the Raptor, his helmet on and fastened, he works his jaw to set the strap in place. He goes to a seat, one near the rear and tightens his straps. The rifle is held between his legs which are drawn up so other's can get by if they need to.
You paged Kostas with 'Cool.'

The Pararescue Jumper listens quietly to the plan here, his helmet tucked under his arm, and takes glance at all the maps. Kalum really has little to add with regards to the ambush, and nods his head at the plan. It seems straightforward and reasonable enough to him. The Petty Officer then turns back towards the Raptor, and moves in to find a seat.

Leightner moves to the Raptor, moving to strap into place, stowing his P90 and folding his arms and legs in for transport. Loading in and getting settled to move.

Kapali accepts the offered map with another quietly voiced, "Thank you sir," which covers more than just appreciation over getting to study the map, getting a better view of the surrounding terrain while she's at it. Altitude markings are noted for reference as she takes a seat, secures herself and cinches the strap that holds her helmet into place, pops her jaw once and works the kinks out of her neck before settling in. If she isn't guarding it, guiding it, or in some way responsible for driving it, she doesn't particularly need to do more than just be cargo in it.

Lleufer has no questions, gives a nod and loads up with the others. He takes a seat, straps in and waits for whomever is left. "Hey, Kalum." He looks to Kapali, "Welcome aboard, Corporal. Usually it's Kostas or myself who do demo. Good we have more who can."

Kostas loads up last, securing her stuff as she makes sure everyone else is clipped in. "Reed. You have com of Team 1." She straps herself in. "Hopefully th' weather holds, but we gonna set up quick as shit after mystery meatloaf day an' then keep silence until th' party starts, 'less it's an emergency. Ares and Athena guide our hand, Artemis make our vengeance true." She nods to the pilots and crew. "Ready when you are, sir."

"Never to many people on hand that can set charges and angle them the right way, Sergeant," Kapali replies, starting to lean forward to offer a hand in greeting only to be brought up short by the straps holding her in place. Forward momentum arrest about half an inch into the gesture, she settles for aiming a nod of greeting at the Sergeant, "Thanks, by the way. Glad to be here."

"Aye," says Ynyr, "Or to use the big guns. More the merrier." And maybe it'll save Amos getting shot up so much. Old bastard. Lleufer looks around to the others and settles in for the trip out.

SCENE SET: The Raptor lifts off once all the marines are loaded in. The ECO tells Kostas "ETA in fifteen minutes, Ensign. We won't be on the ground long so get your people off fast." He gives Kostas the Raptor call sign and freq that they will be monitoring "When you are ready to depart, give us a shout. We will pick you up at the Ambush site or at the secondary if things are to hot for us to land there." All the while the ECO speaks the pilot is already turning in the proper direction and the ship is on it's way.

Closing his eyes now, Fischer shakes his head a little bit as he leans back in his seat. Some quiet contemplation or something like that, perhaps?

Neko does some fidgeting during the Raptor flight, rather like an over-eager kid who has to endure a long car ride. She at least stops herself from asking 'Are we there yet?' repeatedly. She's probably tempted. But she doesn't.

Leightner remains folded in. He can stay awake for fifteen minutes. He sort of zones off into space, a stillness creepig over him as he concentrates.

Once the Raptor is in flight, Reed stretches out his legs, closes his eyes and rests his head back on the bulkhead. He listens to the exchange between Lleufer and Kapali but says nothing to add to the conversation. Right now he's in his own little world, Reed's world, where he sets himself up for the mission.

Petty Officer Kalum leans back into his seat, and lets the Raptor drivers do their jobs. The PJ is used to being in Raptor's almost constantly, and the ride hardly bothers him. They aren't expecting AA, and as such the action shouldn't start until they are on the ground. While they are enroute he'll check his weapon one last time, doublecheck the medical supplies, and glance at the plan of attack then — followed by looking at the maps of the surrounding area. Just incase things go tits up.

Kapali spends the time studying the map, better to know the surrounding terrain and not have need of it, than to have need of it and not having taken the time to study it. Always a plan B, etc.

The pilot calls out loud enough for all to hear over the sounds of the engines "Three minutes to the LZ." There is a noticable shift in the craft as it begins to descend.

Leightner moves. Efficiently, he readies his P90, getting set for hard drop. This time feeling much better about it than the last time. He is prepared to move on sequence.

Neko gets less impatient at the call that they're approaching the LZ. A last check of her gear is done, and then she just waits until it's time to off-load.

As they move in for the drop, Kostas gives her typical last minute instructions, rote, perhaps comforting, the same spoken by just about any platoon leader or sergeant everywhere. "Engage yer brain before your weapon, specially since we got two teams. Short burts, 'cept for our special snowflake here," she grins. "Think we only gonna face a standard patrol, but these motherfuckers are better'n th' average canner, as we know, and if there's more, we rock it." She nods to the pilot's instructions. "Aye, Sir." She glances through the raptor. "Everyone clear on what they doin'?"

Lleufer shifts in his seat and waits, no point in unstrapping before they are told to get their asses out and the door opens. Might be a rough landing and won't due to toss them about on top of each other. Ynyr's eyes are keen, hand on the harness release to await the order. "Yes, sir." He says to Kostas.

When the call for 3 minutes goes out, Reed brings his feet in, opens his eyes and takes a deep breath. Smiling "Game time, boys and girls," he says to no one in particular. One thing about being in the back of the buss he will have to wait for everyone else to get out before he does. He looks forward to where Kostas is "Aye, sir, all clear," he calls out. One hand over the straps ready to hit the release button.

Putting his helmet on now, although he doesn't open his eyes yet, Fischer nods a bit at the question about being clear on what they're doing. Slowly opening his eyes, he mutters something under his breath, before he glances around again now.

SCENE SET: The Raptor comes in hard and fast. The door has long since been opened and thus stands ready for the teams to disembark. No sooner had they touched the ground the Pilot and the ECO are yelling "Go, go, go." It's at that magic time, where the sun has set but the sky is still light, allowing the troops to still see. They have landed in a small patch of open land, surrounded by tall trees. By the map there is a one klick trek to the ambush site, through the trees that seem darker than out here in the open.

PO Kalum flops his helmet onto his head now, and buckles his chinstrap on. He reaches into his vest and pulls out several sticks of gum, which he places into his mouth, and chews thoughtfully. "Merciful Lords, at this moment I beg only to live the next few minutes well."

"Soun, when we get t' the sight, start scoutin' for your place and we'll assemble 'round that. Leightner, we'll cover our EOD while she sets and Soun gets her mojo ready," Kostas speaks to her team briefly as soon as everyone's poured out the door. "Reed, signal when you in position," is her brief command to the other team's commander.

And here they are - birdie ride coming to it's end! The door is opened and the wind whips around, giving them all a view of the landscape briefly as the Rapture slews around and comes down. Lleu gives one last tug on his helmet strap, then releases his harness the moment the dust is kicking up and he feels that hard bump. Navy pilots are all the same, hit the deck hard for that trap, yep. Even when there isn't one! Out Ynyr goes, leaping through the door when it's his turn with rifle in hand, goggles settled against the dust and eyes keen for unfriendlies as he provides cover for those behind him to disembark.

Leightner slips out and nods to Kostas settling in at her side, to be ready to move, and cover his zones, P90 brought around to rest in his hands, lowered, but looking around alertly.

Neko unbuckles herself, grunting as she hefts her pack. "Scout, work my mojo. I think I can handle that, sir," she says with a bright, rather cocky, grin to Kostas. "Metal frakkers won't know what hit them." She'll proceed out with her team to their spot, as the unload progresses.

Disembarking with the rest, and once more settling her gear into place, Kapali is scanning the actual terrain vs the image of the terrain by map as offers the map back to the Ensign. Now that she's put as much of it to memory as she needs for the moment, "Your map, Sir," is spoken at a pitch designed to carry just enough to catch Kostas attention. Carry, that is, not shout. It's all about decibels, the SMI 80 held with steady hands, head angling slightly to take a deep breath of the air, fresh air at that.

"Aye, Sir," Reed replies as the turns his back to the Raptor as it lifts off in a cloud of leaves, grass and other woodsy type things. As soon as it's gone, silence fill the air. And slowly the sounds of insects and other natural creates begin to return after the disturbance. "One click south," he mutters as he recalls the map and where the ambush site is in relation to where they are. His rifle is up, safety off as he looks to his other teammates "Shall we," and so he begins to head into the woods and the deepening darkness.

"Aye, Corporal." Lleufer says low to Reed. "You want me take point as scout, or fall back and take tail?" He's not the ones giving orders this time so Ynyr will go and do whatever he's told, ears sharp.
You paged Kalum with 'I do appreciate it, and please, poke away. New to the setting so can use the help. YOu rock on your TPs so I trust you.'

Fischer stretches a bit as he gets out of the Raptor, before he nods a bit at Reed's words, keeping his replies as nods for the moment. Readying his rifle, he looks around as he moves with the others now.

The PJ slides from the Raptor last, and swings his GMAR rifle off of his shoulder into his hands. He points the barrel down towards the ground, and moves to stand towards the back of the group for now. Kalum is a mission specialist and acts as an insurance policy for when things go bad, and as such he'll stay to the back and out of the way until they do — unless called upon.

"Take point, Sargent, then Kalum, myself and Fishcer at the rear." Reed tells his team. "As the Ensign said, stay sharp. Should be a bit of woods off the road in the bend for us to set up." He looks over each to ensure that they have the plan then nods to the 'other' team. "See you all when this is over." No question if he will see them all, he /will/ see them all.

Kostas nods to Kap and takes back the map, folding it a little more and then stuffing it into a utility pouch on her shell. Her rifle comes out and ready, and she's prepared to cover Kapali as she gets set up—though still keeps an eye on Soun as well to look for any trouble that way as well, as the teams beging to make their preparations in the wooded area, getting ready to lay waste to that damned patrol that's cost so many of their brothers and sisters their lives.

Lleufer doesn't say another word. He gives a nod and starts off in the direction the setting sunlight indicates, double checking against his vest's compass even so to make certain of no mistakes in their direction. The map's course he keeps in mind as he starts out a little distance ahead of the others. The Aerilon Sergeant keeps his eyes peeled for any movement up ahead, listening carefully, but also Lleu scrutinizes the road in the fading light for signs of passage, tracks he might read. For a Marine, he moves quietly and pays attention to whatever cover there might be - for the moment reasonable speed may be more tactically important but one never knows when an unexpected sniper might be about.

Leightner settles in next to Kostas, setting up a system of area checking and sector scanning to keep their team covered, Neko finding a place to settle down ans waste canners and Kap setting out the surprise party favros. He's looking for the enemy, or the unusual, or anything, really.

Moving out with the rest of the team, Kapali is studying the terrain and surrounding area with each step she takes, both to get a feel for the area but also to get a feel for the type of rock she'll have to work with. As far as ambush plans go, this one reads fairly straight forward. She angles another minute nod at the corpsman in greeting and keeps studying the area, the cold but clear weather just cold enough to allow for small breaths of vapor to appear if she really tries. Not that she really tries, but it does help discern the actual temperature.

"Home sweet home…" Neko mutters to herself as she moves through the woods with Kostas & Co. to the site where their team will set up. It's almost said somberly. Or, at least, lacking in the glibness she normally pipes off everything with. She takes a long look around the area. There's no time to dig out a real machine gun nest, but with the higher elevation, she can find a good angle to shoot down at whatever toasters will be incoming without any trouble. Or so she seems to think. "This'll do, sir," she says to Kostas, as she kneels and begins setting up her equipment at a spot just off the road. Trying to balance the ability to aim clear of the trees with stability of the tri-pod.

Reed falls in line at the slot he designated, his rifle sweeping the woods as they move along. One klick is not that far to go. As they enter the woods his eyes adapt to the decrease in light by the shade of the leafless trees. Nothing needs to be said till they arrive at the designated position. He can't help but mutter "Be nice if the Corps would break down and get us all NVGs though." But it is the Corps, and they have what they have so best to make do with the situation.

Leightner moves past Neko, looking around at the spot she's chosen, and nods, moving to Kap and where she is, his stance low and eyes searching for anything, as he places himself closer to Kap as she's still mobile and covering her.

TEAM 1: Petty Officer Kalum moves into position with the rest of the Marines, and once Team 1 is at their location he takes a seat behind a tree. At this point he adjusts his medbag and weaponry from a carrying position into a more efficient battle set-up. The cold air makes the PJ shiver, and he silently curses the climate controled Battlestar for making him weak. He pulls his shermagh scarf up over his nose and mouth to help warm his face, and then waits with the rest of Team 1 for the Cylons to just happen up the road.

<FS3> Lleufer rolls Stealth: Good Success.

Team 2: Keeping the rifle she's carrying with care, Kapali matches her pace to that of the rest of the team. She scuffs, from time to time, but deliberately, the sole of one boot against the terrain they're walking through and studies the type of dirt for a moment before continuing on. A sidelong look is spared toward Leightner, having her own medic escort is rather nice though she'd rather NOT have to have need of medic assistance any time soon. Just like insurance, good to have, never want to use.

Ynyr glances back and nods to what Reed says, all of them knowing the canners see just fine in the dark and they don't. As they have arrived at their designated place, Lleu sees Kalum plop down and as for himself? The Sergeant starts to have a very careful look around their immediate area, mindful to stay off the road as he does so - that he not leave tracks or other sign of their being here. The Aerilon wants no surprises but also, to see where their team can set up the best firing angles for the canner's approach, no matter which direction they come from (in case of surprises) and also, the best way back out for them to retreat, if needbe.

SCENE SET: While the woods are dark and the sky is clearly growing darker by the minute, the road before the two teams stands in stark contrast. The dirt, tan in color, seems like a bright ribbon. Swept clear of any debris, but along side it dead grass, nearly knee high, covers shallow drainage ditches on either side.

Fischer gets into his position, shaking his head little. Moving with the others, before he finds a similar position as Kalum, shrugging a little to himself as he mutters something under his breath. Something including words like 'rock', 'kill', 'everytime' and 'return'. Aside from that keeping silent now.
From afar (to Reed and Neko), Lleufer salutes!

Neko unpacks in the little hollow she's located, situating the tri-pod firmly into the ground before getting to the task of mounting the gun itself. It doesn't take her too long. The light machine gun doesn't compare with others in the heavy arsenal, in terms of pure cumbersomeness. But it's more complicated than locking and loading a rifle. She seems to know what she's doing, though, more or less. She's one of the (increasingly many) transfers in from the Picon resistance in the last months, so she's done this before.

Reed waits till the other team members settle in before he takes his spot near a fairly large tree. "Remember," comes his hushed voice, "we go when the other team detonates the charges. Keep your eyes open, if one of them breaks or if they have friends I am sure the ruckus will bring them in a hurry." And so he settles down, watching over the road both to the east and to the North, waiting.

Leightner keeps moving with Kap, letting her work, knowing Kostas with Neko is okay. He keeps a constant watch for baddies and is ready to move on an instants notice. High energy, low noise.

The time spent waiting for charges to be set is always tense, and as a former EOD Kostas knows it well. She continues to stand guard over the setupthough once Soun is settled and in place, she relaxes only slightly, trusting the heavy weapons specialist in full to also be on guard the minute she's ready. She keeps an eye on Leightner and Kapali as well, her training subconsciously making her eye the distance/blast radius between them before the charges are set, and if it looks like the medic is drifting too close to the Engineer. For the moment, she keeps silent though as the marines click into placeconfident in her men and women.

Reed gives the team one more check, seemingly satisfied with their positions he looks over to where Team 2 should be. In the gloom of the woods it is near impossible to see them. Perfect. He reaches and clicks his mic and speaks softly into it.

[Into the Wireless] Reed says, "Team one in position and ready."

All that boot scuffing on the way to where she'll set up the explosives hasn't simply been to check to see if the traction on her boots is as good as promised. Once she's in place, or rather in the range of where the ideal place is, Kapali studies the actual bend of the road and the road itself for a silent moment. Once more she crouches to take a handful of the hard packed dirt and lets it sift through her fingers before tilting her head and measuring the angle at which Soun will be firing, another look to determine where both teams will be firing from, angles within angles. It's all math. Then she gets down to business, shrugging out of her pack, retrieving the Claymore's and measuring the blast radius - as much by eye as by pacing it off - before the real work begins. First to set, then to conceal, to make sure that nothing sticks out, nothing screams 'don't step here or you'll die' to the canners when they come marching around in that creepy silent but not silent way. Machines moving just aren't as silent as, well, marines moving.

Leightner moves in Kaps vicinity, at optimal overwatch range for her. Keping an eye out to allow Kap to set the explosives without worrying about anything surprising her. Knowing he's partly being watched by Kostas. It's the circle of life.

[Into the Wireless] Kostas says, "Roger. Ordinance still in process. Will advise when complete."

<FS3> Kapali rolls Demolitions: Success.

Call it a perverse sense of humor, but Kapali will ever be amused by the 'FRONT TOWARD ENEMY' marked on the mine, the 'push here stupid' mentality of the manufacturers really just sets her amusement in the right zone. She's aware of Leightner's overwatch, and that he's very carefully not in her way, as she sets the mines to overlapping fields of destruction, aiming them for maximum dispersal pattern and yield, keeping in mind the sixty degree arch that the steel balls will be spewing in. It's just the kind of irony, using steel spheres to punch holes in metal centurions, to bad they couldn't rig the centurions with a brief electro-magnetic field that the spheres would be drawn irresistibly toward.

Lleufer finds a good place and lays himself out, belly down. He's got a fallen tree laying across the ground that is plenty thick enough and not too rotted to help stop some rounds. Even so he'll have to look over it to fire. He lays his rifle over and sights in through the growing darkness. Nothing else to do but listen and wait, watchful.

[Into the Wireless] Kapali says, "Ordinance in place."

<FS3> Kapali rolls Alertness: Good Success.
<FS3> Leightner rolls Alertness: Good Success.
<FS3> Kostas rolls Alertness: Failure.
<FS3> Neko rolls Alertness: Success.

Neko squints down the road once she's got her big gun on place, moving it slowly from side to side, to get a feel for what her field of fire is going to be. She casts occasional glances over her shoulder at Kapali. The glances aren't too nervous. But anytime someone is working with explosives, it's nervy to watch.

With his gear ready, Kalum swings up onto a knee now, and points his rifle downrange towards the road. He looks through the weapons optical scope, and watches as the Marines lay their trap. In silence he leans up against the tree now, and waits. His pale blue eyes wander from the scope to the surrounding forest and back to the road.

Leightner stays on overwatch, and as Kap finishes he starts moving to cover her, suddenly one hand going up, then to his ear, then down the road. Hear something that way. He looks to Kap, and nods, taking cues from her to run.

Fischer keeps quiet as he listens, ducking behind his tree once more. Glancing over at the others in his team, then back to looking at their surroundings, and listening to the sounds of the area now.

Reed settles down, watches the dark figures by the road. "Sure hope she does it right and doesn't blow her self up," he jests. There comes a soft click as his weapon is taking off of safe and is ready to fire. "Be ready," he says.

Kapali retrieves what looks like a tiny rake from her kit and yes, she quickly smooths the ground around the mines then hustles to smooth the ground around the second one and then, stowing it and everything in her pack she nods at Leightner. Her hearing is pretty acute, all things considered, and it is highly unlikely that the sounds that she's hearing mean that the ice cream truck is about to come around the bend. She hustles to where the rest of the team is waiting, hits the dirt with enough emphasis to prove that she doesn't want to be leaping around like a gazelle when the canners come around the corner, and prepares to set off the ordinance once the canners move into the kill zone.

Leightner books it with Kap, nope nope, not in the open, nope.

Neko's focus sharpens at the road when she sees Leightner and Kapali move. She hears something, though she can't immediately identify what. "Just in time. For something," she says with a wolfish grin. Adrenaline's pumping now, so she can be more excited than nervous. She hunches behind her gun and waits, fingers itching.

Maybe it's the distraction of having eyeballs moving in two different directions as her team is momentarily split - maybe she's thinking about that hot guy that she saw working out in the fitness center earlier. In any case, Kos is happily hanging out waiting for everything to be assembled. After the rest of 2 returns though, she's on her guard. As Kap's already called it over the radio, she does not, instead remaining tense and silent.
You paged Kalum with 'So when the new ones join, +combat/join <name>=Centurion? That sets the weapons and armor?'

SCENE SET: In the darkening gloom, it is soon apparent to Team 2 that four Centurions are heading up the road, just as intel said they would be. The lead watches the road as the one next to him watches to the right. About 12 feet back come the next two, who also are scanning either sides of the road. They still have some distance to go, about 100 meters before they take the bend in the road.
Kalum pages: Well, when ya have them join +combat/join (names)=#786/centurion
Kalum pages: That'll set everything
You paged Kalum with 'Cool, didn't know that. Thanks.'

Leightner settles in to get nice and comfy behins cover. P90 in hands, quiet, looking to the rest of his team, ready to shoot, or treat injuries. Let's see where the night takes us.

Kapali slides the NVG out of her pack and begins to do a Dome-count as the canners come around the bend. She's paced off the space between the ordinance, and even running flat out to where she's taken up position she's still measured the relative range every step of the way.

"Something is up," Reed points out as he sees the dark shapes begin running to their positions. He uses his scope to try to see down the road though he still can't spot anything. He settles in, the rifle trained down the road, a quick glance to the others that are spread out with him, double checking.

<FS3> Lleufer rolls Alertness: Good Success.
<FS3> Fischer rolls Alertnes: Success.
<FS3> Kalum rolls Alertness: Success.
<FS3> Reed rolls Alertness: Good Success.

Kalum continues to watch the road, hearing the Centurions march closer, and soon they come into view. His rifle raises slightly, and he stares down the scope towards the Centurions. He counts four and continues to watch their approach carefully — waiting to see what they do.

Lleufer lays still, seeing them coming, aye. He doesn't move, relaxed like a man ready to take a nap except that it's cold ground and he's watching the enemy approach. They are to wait until the mines are set off and so easing his rifle's safety off, Ynyr awaits that event patiently.
You paged Kapali with 'Do that now. Then +combat/explode <canner name>, <canner name>'

Fischer sits up a bit more now as there's signs of the enemies now. Frowning as he keeps silent, turning much of his attention to the road, while still looking around into the distance every now and then, in case there's something somewhere else, sneaking up on them. Most of his attention going back to the road now, though.

Leightner moves to settle his aim on the centurions. ahh picking targets from cover.
You paged Kapali with 'Yep.'
Lleufer pages: So making sure… I can go ahead and target?

Hunched down in the dust with everyone else, Kapali is measuring off the distance each time the canners move forward. One hand resting on the rifle, the other holding the detonation device, ready to trigger once the canners are within the set arcs of destruction. She's prepared to duck AND close her eyes behind the NVG as well, lets not get blind either.

The Centurions are totally unaware that they are walking right into an ambush. The distance narrows to 50 meters, then to 25 and then they are in the Kill zone.

Reed settles down, his rifle trained on one of the canners as they approach the ambush. He waits for the go signal, which is the command from Team 2 to blow the mines.
Long distance to Kostas: Reed will wait for your radio message to go before I roll the turn.

Fischer aims for one of the Centurions now, waiting for the moment when they'll open fire on the metallic monsters now. His ownly focus at the moment is on the target now.

[Into the Wireless] Kapali says, "Optimal range achieved, Sir." her voice very quiet on the comm."

Kalum bites down on the gum in his mouth, flicks the safety off of his gun, and then breaths out slowly. He waits for the explosion, draws a bead on one of the Centurions heads, and prepares to fire.

Neko waits for the order to fire rather like a race horse waiting to be loosed onto the track. The track of Centurions, who will hopefully be run over shortly.

From her vantage point and the NVGs, Kostas waits until the canners are just about to enter the kill zone, and for her engineer to speak, before her command comes quietly over the devices. "Open Fire."

<COMBAT> Cent3 has been KO'd!

The world erupts in a shower of light and noise as the ambush teams let loose. Reed keeps steady on his target, another three round bust is set to go as he squeezes on the trigger.

Kapali doesn't need to confirm receipt of the Go command, she simply sets off the first mine while closing her eyes, AND ducking down, so as to preserve her vision AND of course make sure that the NVG aren't damaged by anything kicked up by the explosion. It's only when the initial rain of pellet projectiles is accomplished that she lifts her head and, eyes squinting, scans the field and prepares to set off the second charge.

Kostas picks her target and then closes her eyes to fire, in part to shield them from the expected flare of light. She continues to fire into the canners as some go up, but some keep moving, picking the next closest target and then closing her eyes again in anticipation of the second detonation.
[Into the Wireless] Kapali says, "Go for two when ready, Sir."

The two remaining Centurions, stunned by the fire begin to turn to the on coming fire. Their weapons swing in the direction, one towards Team 1's position and the other to Team 2's position.

[Into the Wireless] Kostas says, "Fire at will, Corporal."

Neko opens fire, spraying the air with machine gun bullets in the general direction of the Centurions. It's not exactly surgical work. "Whoa…" That's murmured as Kapali's explosion goes off. And accompanied by a big, wolfish grin.

[Into the Wireless] Kapali says, "Roger that."

Kalum conserves his ammo for now, and takes it one shot at a time while the Centurions aren't firing. He fires one shot, and the bullet tears through the armor on the Centurions neck. His gun flicks to the side, and he targets the other standing Centurion. More explosions are no doubt coming, but he sights in on this Centurions head. The he breaths out, and pulls the trigger.

Once more Kapali's sets off the mines, head ducking down, eyes closed, waiting for the explosion to belch the spheres toward the Centurion's.

And their world errupts from peaceful wintry night to all hell breaking loose. A very nice little ambush indeed as one of the canners is blown to bits right off, the others getting shot up in a hail of bullets. Lleufer's goggles darken briefly against the flare and he keeps firing. This so far is easy, almost too easy. Like shooting ducks in a barrel

Fischer fires off a burst now, shaking his head a little to himself. When someone takes the Centurion down, he switches for another one, once more pulling the trigger.

Kostas speaks quietly to her team, as the remaining two canners go down. "Mind the rear," she tells them. "Now that they know we here, could be they come from th' other direction or under cover."

Leightner fires, sparking bullets off the centurions armor, stitching down the neck to the chest. Then the mine completely disintegrates the Canner. Nobody will want any pieces from that one. Not enough left.

The smoke, the dust and the noise seems to take a long time to settle down. When Reed peers over his rifle in the direction of the road it's just, well, only tiny bits of canner is strewn about. Even some of it glitters in the tree limbs. "Frak me," he says with a chuckle, raising "So much for being so big and bad, eh?"

[Into the Wireless] Kostas says, "Excellent work, Marines. Team Two preparing to cover th' rear. Hold here, see if they got friends."

"Remind me never to piss you off," Neko comments to Kapali, as the smoke clears to reveal blown up Cylons. She half-turns her head to nod short to Kostas about covering said rear.

[Into the Wireless] Reed says, "Team 1, keep an eye on the roads. More could be on the way. Well done."

Leightner looks around, slowly scanning for new threats, approaching Canners following the scent of vaporized Toasters. Mmm Toaster smoke. Don't breathe that.

Ynyr looks around, not getting up as the last is blown or shot up. Lleufer listens to the radio chatter and frowns, saying very low to himself, "Not sure it's wise to stay put." But he's not the one calling the shots. He lifts his eyes though, expecting raiders might get sent for an oversweep. But maybe not.

Discarding the used part of the trigger to detonate the mines, Kapali brings her rifle up, aiming down range, a fierce grin on her face. She snugs the rifle in close, tucking the butt of the stock against her shoulder and waits for the cloud of debris to settle.

Fischer fires off another burst, then as the Centurions go down. There's one more moment of looking at the rest of the surroundings, before he focuses back to the road now. Staying just as quiet as before.

Kalum watches as the shot from his rifle blasts through the Centurions head, and then the Centurion is torn apart by explosives. "Perfect waste of a headshot." The Pararescue Jumper says quietly, and then turns his attention back to the scope. He scans the road just as before, sweeping back and forth, and searching for signs of other targets.

The fire goes out again. Reed's gun sends three rounds down range before he jerks his hand from the weapon "Frak," he says rather loudly "I'm hit." he studies the wound a moment, wipes the blood on his other arm's sleeve, before setting it back on the weapon. "Keep up the fire, don't let them get any closer." Oh, wait, there is only one left.

Leightner opens fire on a Centurion and fills out the pattern of fire Team 2 is setting up, dropping both Cylons, a bullet impacting the ground near him. Hmm. He lowers back down, looking for targets, not following Team 1s fight.

Kapali takes care to aim WITH care, firing in controlled bursts while both listening to anything that comes over the comm as much as using the NVG to search for other targets.

And here they come running. To join their silvery brothers into the jaws of the Marine's trap to investigate. When close enough, the Colonials once more open fire to start mowing them down and down they go, like so many tin cans. Their luck can't hold but for the moment, the Marines are enjoying good shooting. Ynyr sees one is still up and keeps his target to continue firing.

Fire, aim anew, and fire again. That seems to be how Fischer is playing it at the moment. No talking, just concentrating on the attacking now.

Targets go down, more keep coming. Kostas keeps scanning the road and area near the bend in it, and fixes on a target and fired as bullets fly around her.

Kalum hears those ever important two words. "I'm hit." He slips away from his cover, and moves over towards Reed. He dives in next to the man, and looks at the Marines hand. "Let me see your hand," the Petty Officer orders gently, pulling some gause out of his medkit. "Just a graze, but let me wrap it real quick so the blood doesn't make your rifle slick." With that said, he'll move to wrap Reed's hand rather speedily.

Neko just keeps firing as the Centurions keep coming. Seems the only thing to be done in this situation. She hunches as much as she can to stay a small target, but she only can only duck so much and keep proper aim.

Leightner fires into the centurion as his target as the dirt he is hiding behind catches a bullet for him neatly. He focuses on his target as the damn thing is still up and no one's bleeding. time to finish these canners off.

Lleufer fires down into the road, the canners easily seen in it's paleness compared to the rest of the night. Bullets blaze but not satisefied, the Sergeant lets go his rifle and grabs his one and only grenade he was allowed to bring. "Come on, baby." He whispers and getting up no more than he needs must, he makes to throw it down into the mayhem. Little does he remember that it was getting up to throw a grenade that got him shot in the head at Santos Ridge.

As Kalum moves over and works on his hand, Reed nods "Thanks," but there is little time to say any more. A beer, or 10 will be sent the PJ's way when they get back. He moves the now bandaged hand back to his rifle. They are still in this fight. Then he looks beyond the ones advancing on the Marine's positions "Bloody," his words cut off as he points "Is that more on the way?" Off in the darkness, still a good way from the fight it appears as two more red sweeping lights are headed their way.

Kapali selects another target, the rifle still snugged against her shoulder, watching the piles of centurion carcasses littering the landscape. She's utterly quiet while selecting targets, a fine edge of nicely leashed anger keeps her hands steady, her focus narrowed.

Kalum finishes fixing Reed's hand, and then picks back up his rifle. At this point he sees Lleufer standing up, and getting ready to throw a grenade into the mix of mangled metal bodies. He glances down towards the Centurions, and sees one preparing to shoot the Marine. Quickly, he snaps his rifle into position, and stares down the scope at the Centurion. The switch is flipped from single shot to three round burst, and Kalum lays into the Centurion — hoping to keep it from plastering the Sergeant.

Kostas is firing at her target, but the damn thing want go down. She holds steady on it, firing again.

Neko doesn't so much select targets as try to spray as much fire as possible across the readily available Centurions in her field of vision. Much of it pings off their metal framework, but some breaks through.

Kapali shifts focus to add to the rounds firing toward the target that the Ensign has selected, the change in angle is a small change but she makes it with ease.

<COMBAT> Cent7 has been KO'd!

[Into the Wireless] Kostas says, "Understood. We are ready."

Leightner fires, bringing down the centurion in a hail if bullets and frowns, retraining his aim on the bastard canner aiming at him now, pew pew.

As the canner that she's firing at finally goes down, Kostas turns her weapon on the next nearest target, unleash a burst of bullets.

The firing picks up, Reed remains down, "Watch your ammo, lets not all run out at the same time." He sights in on one of the canners. Taking careful aim.

Kalum grimaces as all of his shots go wide, and takes some time to settle himself down. He breaths out carefully, and sights again on the Centurion that had been shooting at Lleufer. He then squeezes the trigger.

Good throw, shitty grenade fragmentation. "What the piss?!" Ah well, frak. Ynyr has laid himself back down quick as he had sat up to throw and takes his rifle back up. Man isn't pleased but what can you do? He's even a pretty good shot but not tonight. Annoyed, he resumes firing into the road. Anything else coming? He spares another uneasy look up at the darkened sky.

Seeing the incoming Centurions, Fischer lowers his rifle to get out his grenade. Waiting a few moments now, he throws it at one of the Cylons now.

Keeping track of rounds is just part of the fun, right? The ominous click of empty clip followed by the classic 'oh shit' is the moment to avoid at all costs. So she avoids it by keeping count and Kapali shifts the focus of her weapons fire to match that of Leightner and Kostas, working with the team.

Neko only really pauses firing as Centurions fall and she has to marginally adjust her aim. Still metal things coming? All right, then. Just keep at it.

With all the fire going and coming, Reed takes his time in lining up his shot. "Watch your ammo, guys." He yells out. Still they troops are giving better than they are getting. "So much for intel on a small patrol, what the Frak have we gotten into, a nest of the buggers?"

Fischer shakes his head, as his thrown grenade doesn't really have the desired effect. Reed's yelling makes him shake his head for a few moments, before he turns back to firing at the Centurions.

Kostas checks her ammo, speaks clearly enough to be heard around the gunfire. "Will need t' reload next round." But she'll empty her clip this time at the target she's been aiming at.

And Lleufer still can't hardly hit the broad side of a Cylon. He keeps firing away, trying to actually hit something.

Leightner fires into the centurion, bullets flying about him, and his Medic senses go off. He crawls back from his position, and pushes his P90 down, reacing up with one hand to tug the strap as he moves, hands clapping together with a whiff of alcohol then gloves springing onto his hands as he moves to Neko. He grunts at the gunner. They always meet like this. Anyway, he moves to her leg, styretting her to numb the pain as he gets to work.

Neko is pinged in the leg by a ricochet, which takes her by surprise. And prompts and very loud, "Motherfrakker!" She eases down from her firing position to Leightner can treat her wound, such as it is.

Just as Leightner had covered her while she was setting the mines, Kapali moves when he does, continuing to fire as she moves but covering for the corpsman while he works on Soun. Hearing the Ensign's words has her nodding, the quick scent of alcohol is to eerily reminiscent of being worked on in the field and she faces forward/outward rather than look back. The enemy is that-a-way anyway!
Neko pages Reed and Leightner: Do I need to pass for the round while I'm being medic'd, or should I keep shooting?

Kalum keeps up his fire on the same Centurion, as bullets strike the metal monsters armor, and bounce off. The Petty Officer glances around to the team he's with, but they are mercifully ignored by the Cylons for now. So, he just concentrates on shooting.

As the firefight continues, Reed releases his weapon and gets to the kneeling position. He pulls a grenade out, pulls the pin and yells "Frag out." The throws it in the direction of the newest canner, just as it moves near the second one. Maybe, hopefully, both will take a shot.

Kalum keeps his head down, and keeps on firing. The Centurion in front of him is pretty beat up, but still managing to return fire. "Lords they must have put some extra plating on this one at the factory." The Petty Officer grunts and then sends another three round burst in its direction.

Leightner leans in, filling the empty bullethole with proper packing, and applying a pressure bandage, to the wound on the meat of the leg before Neko just eats another round in the chest, inches from his face. He lurches forward, grabbing her by the armor, and pulls it apart to get at the wound. frak frak.

Kapali hears Kostas clip click empty, eases subtly forward to offer more fire cover as the Ensign reloads and Leightner continues to work on Soun.

Turning to fire at another of the Cylons, Fischer is standing now, using the tree he's been hiding near as cover every now and then. Frowning a little to himself.

The leg hit didn't faze Neko terribly. The hit directly to her chest, however, is another matter. She's thrown back by the force of it, though the armor keeps it from being too much more than a bloody flesh wound. "Mother. Frakker," she repeats.

Kostas ducks down to reload, warily keeping an eye out, while sparing a glance towards Leightner and Neko before she startes loading up.

SCENE SET: The dust continues to hang in the air as the firing slows. Smoke, debris and the stench of the firefight lingers as the winds slowly cause all to drift away. What's left of the 'patrol' lay scattered about the road and part ways to the Marines. An eerie silence fills the night.

Leightner applies an infused medical pressure bandage to the wound, and styrettes Neko with fast stim to keep her going while dulling the pain, he pulls back, looking around, ooo quiet. No one else on the medical lineup.

While he couldn't tell if his last shots hit anything or not, the dust and debris once it settles is moderately impressive. Lleufer listens carefully for the sound of anyone hurt, or anymore canners coming before he looks carefully up to scan the sky again. Luckily there isn't a great deal of Cylon air support left on Picon. He takes the brief pause to check the rounds in his rifle and is edgy to move out.

Kalum watches as the Last Centurion falls, and then turns his scope in either direction on the road — waiting to see if more Centurions come running. For now everything seems quiet, and the Petty Officer rises up to his knee to get a better view of the area. "Well, that was easy…" The PJ states quietly, and then keys his radio.

[Into the Wireless] Kalum says, "Pedro-1, Dogs: Are there any wounded out there?"

Kapali uses one hand to adjust the fit of the NVG once more and eyes the open road that's littered with bits of metal and cautiously rises to her feet, sweeping the area as she moves. "Quiet," she remarks, not asking for it, remarking upon it. "One of those things has to have reported that they weren't out for an evening stroll," she says with a glance toward Kostas, tensed with the energy to either push forward to where the Raptor is to pick them up or go hunting for more.

Neko grunts as she shoves herself back into a shooting position, clearing some more bullets out of her machine gun at the remaining Centurions. Eventually she runs out of robots to shoot, and pokes her head up. Looks around. Then back at Kostas.

Kostas will wait for a few minutes as the smoke starts to clear, before radioing in to the waiting pilot. "Firing has ceased. We're ready to move out, but be advised there may be other patrols in the area." Over the comm to the rest of the team, she says, "Prepare to move out, but keep watch. We'll get an ETA for pour pickup soon." And then, "One casualty, treated. Status for team two, Reed?"

Reed looks over at Team 1, checking them for any problems as it seems that the fight is over. "Everyone good to go?" He asks as he drops his nearly empty clip and puts in a fresh one. The dirt and grim of the battle cling to him, face and body nearly covered in dirt. He hears the call on the radio, does another check before he keys his own, with his bandaged hand at that.

[Into the Wireless] Reed says, "Team 1 good to go."

Leightner brings his hands together, then down sharply, stripping off the gloves, and bringing his P90 around to reload, nodding, "We're mobile." He looks at Neko, "I'm wit ye, in case tha leg troubles ye walkin back."

Over the radio there comes a reply from the waiting Raptor ECO "LZ is clear Dog 6?" There is a brief pause "We can be there in 3 minutes. Have troops ready. It's going to be a fast get and go."

Lleufer reloads as well, just to be safe because you never know what else you might run into or find you. The Sergeant gets to his feet but stays down low, resisting the urge to gather team 1 and order them out. No, not his show. So he falls back a little and waits for the others, watchful and ready to go.

Fischer still keeps quiet, as he looks around for a few moments now. Shrugging as he hears the words over the comms, he steps out from behind the tree, shrugging a little as he looks around for a few brief moments now.

Kapali holds her position near Soun and the rest of Team 2, ready to lend a hand if needed. She takes the time to reload, like with everyone else, her breath fogging in the air in front of her with each breath.

"Understood. We will advise when the LZ is secure," Kostas replies on radio to the ECO. Over the comm, she says, "Team 1, move out to our position, we'll cover. And then move out as a unit to secure the LZ."

Reed nods as the words come across the radio "Lets move to Team 2's position." He fully stands, the rifle held at the ready. Just incase. A look to Kalum "I owe you a few beers," and holds up his bandaged hand.

Ynyr listens to what's said over his ear bud and when Reed gives the order, he slips quietly through the trees without saying anything, moving out towards team 2's position, watchful and keeping to what cover there may be.

Neko stays where she's at, though she does take the opportunity to lean on one elbow in as close to a 'lounge' position as laying on your belly in a nuclear winter-stricken forest by a machine gun will allow you.

Leightner looks about, keeping next to Neko, ready for the bug out order and raptors coming to take them home. Till then, he's prepared for more trouble.

Kapali aims a look back at Soun then back out to watch Team 1 make their way toward where she and the rest of Team 2 are actively scanning the woods, the road, hell scanning the skies and everything in between.

Kalum picks up with Team 1, and follows them towards Team 2. His rifle is held casually in his pack, and his medbag dangles at his side. This has been an easy mission for sure.

Once Team 1 has made their way back, under cover from her group, she flashes a brief grin before it's all business. "Good work, Marines. Let's hoof it t' the LZ, eyes out for trouble." She frowns slightly at the mess of cylon parts on the road. "Too bad we ain't got more in better shape. Ah well. Brass' Mallas Finger Necklace jus' gonna have t' wait. Standard formation, let's move."

Fischer moves over with the rest of team one, shrugging a little bit as he glances between the others now. Glancing around at their surrioundings again now. Starting to move again, as they all do, he stays just as quiet as before.

As they near the other team, Reed calls out "Friendlies," before stepping fully out. No sense in getting anyone shot now. "Some patrol, eh Sir?" Reed says to Kostas. He looks over at the others in Team 2, nods to each, but it's to Neko that the frown comes "You good to go, Neko?" Then to Kapali "Good work with those claymores. I think you can stay for a while longer with us." As they turn to make their way down to the road, Reed can't help but look at the carnage that litters the area. A wide grin shows white teeth beneath the grime "Not bad, not bad at all."

Leightner rises, ready to move, and assist Neko to make sure she doesn't prove in need of carrying. He does that.

Lleufer stays on the fringes, keeping a scout's eye out as the two teams meet and until they move out. He's taken up a sniper's cover as best he might to stay watchful and then the order is given he'll take point to scout ahead as stealthfully as the Aerilon Sergeant can.

"Please, had worse injuries in O-T," Neko says, all of bravado, though she does seem able enough to pick herself up. She grimaces while she does it, but she can move under her own power.

Leightner grins at Neko, "No, yer on drugs, mate. We'll take care o ye in sickbay after we get back."
