Alpheus Sonders was born and raised on Tauron, in the inner city areas of Hypatia, to a pair of parents with arrest records ranging from the occasional cubit laundering affair to drug-related crimes, assault and battery, and a handful of theft charges. Given their history with the local law enforcement, at the young age of two Alpheus quickly found himself separated from them and in government child and family services. He did not stay within foster care for long and was soon adopted by wartime veterans of the First Cylon War, one Linus Bran and Margaret Quinn. The pair were a loving couple with their daughter Kallistei and he grew up in a good household. Alpheus was lucky in that regard, able to flourish as a child where he would have only become further neglected with his birth parents.
His childhood was without any real fault, Alpheus excelled in his schooling and became an avid sports player like his father. This skill in Pyramid would wane as he grew in age and played less; however, he wasn't against following his mother's pursuit with string instruments and kept up with the hobby. Though his sister, who had become something of a rebel by the time the two siblings reached adulthood, did not join the military like their parents, Alpheus had every intent in following in their footsteps as soon as he gained a piloting license of his own. After all, he had grown up listening to his parents' war stories.
So, when eighteen, and after a healthy discussion with his parents, he shipped to the Colonial Fleet Academy: Leonis. Away from the care and guidance of his parents, Alpheus was challenged both mentally and physically. He found purpose though within the military academy, becoming sharp enough to excel beyond most of his peers. He followed in his father's footsteps and became just what he coveted most: ECO. Soon, he was focused on his new assignment after graduating with a degree in Computer Engineering, the lovely BS-19 Artemis. Life aboard was quaint but appreciated. This is where he received his callsign Spoons after being caught adorably cuddling with a crewmember during a SERE field exercise.
Alpheus went on leave with a small group of fellow airmen in order to support a wingmate's wedding when Warday happened. They were on Picon at the time and in a remote enough area to escape immediate obliteration. The days that followed were long, ruthless and grueling. Not everyone survived but they did their best, and Alpheus found himself joining local resistance with the others still healthy enough to fight. Given the opportunity presented by the arrival of the BS-114 Orion months later to put his skills to work for humanity, Alpheus took it.
