Security Hub - Deck 3 - Battlestar Orion
The beating heart of the Marine Corps' presence aboard the Orion, the Security Hub is the main dispatch station for all security and armed response personnel aboard the ship. Staffed to the gills no matter the day or time, there are usually a half-dozen armed Marines stationed here at all times — tasked with keeping tabs on the smaller patrols roving throughout the ship. Mahogany desks line the bulkheads to port, most of which are filled by grunts doing paperwork. In a pinch, Marines use them as benches while gearing up for patrols or raids. At the rear of the room, two flags — one bearing the Colonial Phoenix, the other bearing the Marine Corps insignia — flank a single massive hatch leading aft towards the Armory. To starboard, a smaller hatch leads to the offices of the Battalion's Headquarters Company and to the detention cells beyond.

Anyone who knows Sergeant Ynyr and wants to speak to him knows that when he's on duty and not on patrol in the ship, chances are pretty good he can be located at the Security Hub. Especially at the start of his shift and near the end of it, checking in and out. If he has paperwork to do, as he often has these days, he'll stay put to work on it. And so Lleu's seated at a desk in his Marine MP uniform, armed, and working on a report. No more wheel chair, nor cane, and he's using his left hand for typing even if his little finger is no use with the keyboard. He's managing. On one corner of his desk is a small stack of well used books and a folder with some notes on it pertaining to his OCS classes. Likely he had coursework before shift, or immediately following it.

Toby is off-duty and looks to have been kicking back rather than working out for he's not in his sweats. He's not often in the Sec Hub and as he steps through the hatch he pauses to glance around, a sure sign that he's unsure of where to find who or what he might be looking for. Thankfully though, there's someone who'll do sat right there at a desk. Not wanting to intrude too far inwards he instead calls over from where he is, "Sergeant, you got a moment?"

Lleufer's gaze flicks up and over towards the voice, his typing paused, "Of course." He reaches out with his right boot to nudge the chair that's not being used right next to his desk. Whatever he has been working on, the Aerilon Marine leaves it and leans back in his chair to pop his back, hands tucked for a moment behind his head, "What can I do for you, Crewman Shackleton?" After popping his back, Lleu moves to stand, "There's coffee if you want some." Probably very weak, rationed stuff.

Toby doesn't perhaps look entirely comfortable at being inside the hub, but then the place is full of marines and MPs and as such a long way away from his usual stomping grounds on board. He moves to take the seat though, peering briefly at the coffee before refusing the offer with a shake of his head. "Just had a quick query for you," he starts, "might be nothing but figure it's worth checking. Was just watching some god-awful vid in the rec-room, disaster film type. Anyway, they had sniffer dogs searching through the rubble of a building for any survivors and such and it struck me, do we have any such dogs on planet and if so, might it be worth seeing if they can detect the difference between us and the toasters? They're supposed to be able to smell far more than us right?"

The Aerilon pours himself a cup of coffee, weak but black without any additives. He turns and walks the few steps back to hear Toby while he takes a sip of it. Ynyr thinks about that, "I don't think they can but I could be wrong. A dog might sense other things besides in a scent, though. I can pass the suggestion on to see. Yeah, I think there's a few dogs down below. They're damned few. I've handled and done a little dog training back home but unless I got lucky, I'd probably have a long wait on the list to be assigned one." Lleufer skims a hand over his jaw, "Doctor Tamsin could likely get permission dirtside to test the idea."

Toby nods as it's confirmed there there are at least some dogs. Of course he wants one of those speically trained rescue ones, but in times like this any sniffer is a welcome sniffer. At the comment about Naomi he frowns slightly, "I need to run it past Doctor Nadir now you've said there are dogs. She's the one assigned to run the detection program. If she reckons it has legs as an idea then she'll need likely need to bring in one of the skinjobs, but that's her call I reckon." He's quite firm ont hat point too, almost as if he doesn't want a skinjob in charge of researching an idea to detect skinjobs.

Lleufer isn't interested in arguing so he only nods, "Far as I know, Doctor Nadir and Doctor Tamsin are both working on that project together. But Doc Nadir is the head of it." Lleufer retakes his seat, "Then I'll leave it to you to go ask her. I don't see Doctor Nadir much." If he's not needed to look into it or pass it on, then it's not really his personal concern. Lleu pulls the file he was working on back up but glances back to Toby, "Anything else you need from me?"

"Most likely," Toby conceeds to the comment about both docs being on the case, but he does then nod a couple of times as Nadir is confirmed as lead. A quick up nod is given to indicate that he;s happy to go talk with medical himself and then he's pushing himself to his feet again, not apparently pausing to even think about the MP's final question. He does stop long enough to offer a brief, "thanks for the info," and then he's off, apparently quite keen to continue with this thread of reasoning. Or maybe just be clear of the Sec Hub, who knows.

Lleufer glances up from the commendation proposal he's writing for the late Corporal Baca. His mind clearly is upon other matters, "Sure thing, Shakleton." Fugh, two reports waiting for him to write up after this, then OCS study and another paper to work on. Lleu rubs his face, "Buck up, boyo. You asked for this so suck it up." It's mumbled to himself.
